Press Release:

LAZERMAN Returns at New England Comiccon!
HBComics™ Debuts Newest Lazerman Story at Wizard’s Inaugural Boston Show

Boston comic creators “HBComics” are set to premiere their newest book, “Lazerman #5” when Wizard World: New England Comiccon rolls into the Hynes Convention Center in Boston on October 15th.

The issue, entitled “Night of the Necrolord, part 1” promises the titular super hero going toe to toe with an army of zombies.

“Lazerman’s battle against the undead will be right at home alongside the horror styled events at New England Comiccon, (which include) a screening of footage from AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD, and Buffy event boasting 7 stars from the show!” said Chris Hebert, at the HBComics’ Myspace blog. ”I don’t think we could have planned a better environment for Lazerman to make his triumphant return.”

Alan And Chris Hebert, the creative team behind the book (Known in some circles simply as “The Hebert Brothers”) will be in artist’s alley at the New England Comiccon from October 15-17, where the new book will be available.

The issue is also the first Lazerman title the company has released since finishing up the character’s introduction story with “Lazerman #4” last year. The Hebert Brothers promise the issue will serve not only as a continuation of the broader story, but as a great entry point into the series.

Lazerman™ is the story of an awkward comic book geek who, in a bizarre twist of fate, ends up with super-powers of his very own. The title follows Lazerman’s adventures as he learns how to be a super hero, while lovingly satirizing the super hero genre.

About HBComics™: HBComics™ is an independent comic book publisher, founded by two brothers from Boston. More information on the company, or the titles being produced, can be found at www.hbcomics.com

Adam West and Burt Ward to Attend Wizard World New England

Press Release:

To the Con, Robin!… Adam West, Burt Ward To Attend Wizard World New England Comic Con

NEW YORK and BOSTON, September 13, 2010 – It will be like a trip to the Batcave for “Batman” fans as Adam West and Burt Ward, who played “Batman” and “Robin,” respectively, in the original television series, will both appear at Wizard World New England Comic Con, Oct. 15-17, at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. The “Dynamic Duo” will meet fans, sign autographs and pose for photograph opportunities.

West, a true American icon, is best known for his roles as “Batman” and to a younger generation as “Mayor Adam West” in the popular animated series “Family Guy.” He has made nearly 50 movies, including starring or co-starring roles in DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, THE NEW AGE, THE YOUNG PHILADELPHIANS, AN AMERICAN VAMPIRE STORY, SOLDIER IN THE RAIN, ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS, and NEVADA SMITH.

He has had starring roles in several TV series other than Batman, including “The Detectives,” “The Last Precinct,” and “The Clinic.” His theater credits include “Volpone” at the Mark Taper Forum at the Los Angeles Music Center.

For more on Adam West’s career and life, visit his personal Website at www.AdamWest.com and his Facebook page.

Though an avid comic fan growing up, Ward had somehow never read an issue of Batman when he first auditioned for the role of Robin. Quickly impressing the producers, Ward was cast as Robin alongside West’s Batman for an unforgettable three-season run that lasted 120 episodes.

The legacy of Batman has stayed with Ward throughout his career. He has reunited with West numerous times to reprise his role as Robin, and has also written an autobiography about his Batman experiences called “Boy Wonder: My Life in Tights.”

In recent years, Ward has founded a charitable organization called Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions, Inc, which rescues giant breed dogs like Great Danes and some smaller breed dogs. He also runs Logical Figments, a special effects contractor that provides graphics and animation for commercials and occasional feature films including Bulletproof Monk.

Visit www.burtwardlive.com for updated information and news on Ward, and http://gentlegiantsrescue.com for more on Gentle Giants.

West and Ward join seven “Buffy: The Vampire Slayer” stars including James Marsters, Charisma Carpenter, Nicholas Brendon, Ghostbusters’ Ernie Hudson and other celebrity guests, comic artists and industry professionals at the event.

The Hynes Convention Center is located at 900 Boylston Street in the Back Bay section of Boston. New England Comic Con is the sixth stop on Wizard’s eight-city 2010 North American tour. Wizard Adds Horror Film Killer Short Competition to 2010 Events

Press Release:

HORROR OF HORRORS! FILM COMPETITION TO JOIN WIZARD WORLD COMIC CON TOUR BEGINNING IN ANAHEIM

NEW YORK and ANAHEIM, Calif., March 15, 2010 – From Frankenstein to Halloween to Saw, horror films have been a staple for moviegoers for generations. Now, fans attending Wizard Comic Con events in 2010, beginning next month in Anaheim, Calif., can take part in The NYC Horror Film Festival’s Killer Short Sudden Death Competition, in which short filmmakers will have their work viewed by a live audience and voted into the NYC Horror Film Festival program later this year. Comic Con audiences will have the opportunity to select one winner at each of six 2010 Wizard Conventions – Anaheim (April 16-18), Philadelphia (June 11-13), Chicago (August 19-22), Philadelphia (June 11-13), New England (Oct. 1-3), New York (October 7-10) and New Jersey (Oct. 15-17) – that will become part of the 2010 NYC Horror Film NYC Festival program later this year.

The competition is part of the “Horror Pavilion,” to be featured at Comic Con shows beginning at Anaheim. Aspiring filmmakers are invited to submit their work for consideration at each show.

“The addition of the Film Competition to the Wizard Comic Con series gives attendees who love horror an early look at some new works from talented filmmakers, and the chance to choose which they like best,” said Gareb Shamus, Wizard Entertainment CEO. “We are always trying to bring unique programming to the Series and, combined with the Horror Pavilion, the offerings in this area are even greater.”

The brain child of Mauceri and Michael J. Hein, festival director of the NYC Horror Film Festival, The Killer Short Sudden Death Competition was first held at the Monster Mania convention, August 2009. The audience winner was a short from the Dublin-based company First Quarter Films, Wheels of Death, directed by Edward & Rob Kennedy. Coming together swiftly in order to meet the approaching convention deadline, the organizers were stunned by the over 40 submissions and an audience in excess of 150 attendees.

In six major cities, the competition offers filmmakers a unique opportunity to have their short films screened and voted on by hundreds of fans, and a chance to win a coveted programming slot at the 2010 NYC Horror Film Festival’s Killer Short Sudden Death Competition. Wizard World Buys New England Comic Con; Plans Further Expansion

GAREB SHAMUS, WIZARD ENTERTAINMENT CEO, ACQUIRES NEW ENGLAND COMIC CON

Wizard World Comic Con continues Tour Expansion

New York, NY (November 20, 2009) – Gareb Shamus, CEO of New York based Wizard Entertainment, announces today that he has purchased New England Comic Con, in a move to further expand the Wizard World Comic Con tour.

“We’ve known Larry for many years, and his exceptional 35-year old New England Comic Con gets us into Boston in a big way. New England has a long legacy of cartoons and comics embedded in their history, making the fans there very appreciative of comics’ impact on society and pop culture,” said Shamus. “I’m excited to bring these discerning fans an even better Con experience and everything they expect from a Wizard run show.”

Wizard World Comic ConLarry Harrison, owner of Harrison’s Comics & Collectibles, and Jimmy Tournas, the former owners of New England Comic Con, will be intimately involved in the new show production to ensure fan favorite traditions are maintained.

“Working with Gareb is an awesome experience. The folks at Wizard World have a great sense of how to grow the show in a way that I’ve always wanted to see it flourish. This should be the best comic con the city of Boston has ever seen,” said Harrison.

The New England Comic Con acquisition is the first of several Comic Con tour expansion announcements expected in the weeks ahead.

“We bring together more fans, in more cities than anyone, to celebrate their passion for pop-culture. We’ve had such a strong positive fan and industry reaction to our new show launches that expanding the tour just made sense,” said Shamus.

New England Comic Con venue and dates will be announced soon.
