Press Release:
An “immensely gifted writer and magical prose stylist” (Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times), Michael Chabon is celebrated for his remarkable ability to transport his readers. His first book, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, began as his thesis project at UC Irvine and became a coming-of-age novel about sexual identity. Published when he was just 25, the novel was a New York Times bestseller and catapulted Chabon into literary stardom. Chabon’s other novels include Wonder Boys, which was made into a critically-acclaimed film featuring Michael Douglas; The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, winner of the 2001 Pulitzer-Prize; and The Yiddish Policemen’s Union. His most recent non-fiction work, Manhood for Amateurs: The Pleasures and Regrets of a Husband, Father, and Son, was published in 2009. Chabon’s forthcoming novel, Telegraph Avenue, is the story of two intertwined Oakland, California, families, one black and one white. It is an exploration of friendship, race, and secret histories.
Adam Savage is an industrial special effects designer, actor and co-host of The Discovery Channel series Mythbusters. His acting resume includes early work as voices for Sesame Street characters created by his father. Savage has also taught advance model making at the Academy of Art in San Francisco. He has previously interviewed Michael Lewis, Chef David Chang and actor/musician Fred Armisen for City Arts & Lectures.
