    getPart

    Press Release:

MICHAEL GOLDEN MEETS THE TRAIL BLAZERS!

(A Comic Con Night to Remember)

PORTLAND, OR – Call it a little “February” Madness, but with the Wizard Portland Comic Con approaching like a full court press, the area’s leading pop culture show isn’t letting any lead up time idle, tapping slam dunk artist Michael Golden (“Fantastic Four,” “Deadpool”) as the shooter creating an amazing art piece featuring five of the Portland Trail Blazers most recognizable players.

This combination of the all star talent turned into a great promotion for both Wizard and the Trail Blazers, with 20,000 copies of the Golden poster printed and  given to all attendees of the Miami Heat vs. Portland Trail Blazers game Thursday 1/8/15!

The five players dominating the Portland skyline are: holding the W, Nicolas Batum; holding the moon, Wesley Matthews; holding Rip City, Robin Lopez; holding the Earth, LaMarcus Aldridge; holding Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard.

It was all part of Comic Con Night at the Trail Blazers game, as professional cosplayers were roaming the stands and cheering the Trail Blazers on with the fans, as they went on to beat the Heat 99-83.

But the shot clock hasn’t timed out on the fun!

Along with the artist of this exclusive piece, Michael Golden—who will be at the Wizard Portland show to sign the poster for those 20K fans who received one—all those attending Wizard Portland Comic Con can meet a variety of amazing talent, including Punisher artist Mike Zeck, writer/editor Renee Witterstaetter (of “She-Hulk” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” comics), actors such as Stephen Amell from “Arrow,” Bruce Campbell from “Evil Dead,” and a number of “The Walking Dead” cast members including  Michael Rooker (also in the film, “Guardians of the Galaxy”).

In addition, fans can also meet some of the Trail Blazers at Wizard World Comic Con Portland. And again, get those posters signed!

    Now that’s a scoring opportunity!

The show takes place January 23-25. For more details visit:   http://www.wizardworld.com/portland.html

Michael Golden to Debut Dangerous Curves at Wizard World Chicago Comic Con 2014

    August 21, 2014 by
Filed under Comic Books, Convention News, Illinois

    Press Release:

“Dangerous Curves” Around the Bend at Wizard Chicago! (Thanks to artist Michael Golden)

Dangerous CurvesChicago– Fresh off the presses, the new hardcover, deluxe format, full color sketchbook by Michael Golden will debut at the upcoming Wizard World Chicago show, Aug. 21-24, at his table in the Featured Artist section of this year’s show.

“Michel Golden: Dangerous Curves” is a lush book, at 48 pages, full of powerful pieces by this renowned artist and storyteller.

But why call it “Dangerous Curves?”

Because the name is multi-layered. Golden is known for his strong female characters with their piercing eyes (and yes, curves). And indeed, Michael always says that the first thing he draws for any female character IS the eyes–the window to the soul. And each of Golden’s women express their own strength and individuality on every page, drawn in an authentic and complimentary style.

But “Dangerous Curves” also features other characters–those that lurk around the corner as well as those that seek adventure–providing a good sampling of familiar characters, human and otherwise, providing the drama and/or confronting it.

Being the master storyteller that Michael is, known for his work on “G.I. Joe,” “Spawn,” “Bucky O’Hare,” “The ‘Nam” and much more, of course each piece in this book tells a story of it’s own on each page, with a solid and substantial art style that roots them firmly in your imagination.

In addition to the new book making it’s debut at the show, with the artist in attendance to sign it, all VIP packages for the show will include a free Michael Golden poster in a limited edition. Ask for details on the Wizard World convention website!

“Michael Golden: Dangerous Curves” is limited to 1,000 copies. So, if you haven’t ordered yours from Diamond Distribution, you can still order one while supplies last from evaink@aol.com

For more information on the artist or for ordering, contact evaink@aol.com

    UK – O’Barr & Golden Signing

    golden_obarr_1s

    Press Release:

Orbital Comics is very pleased to announce James O’Barr (creator of The Crow), legendary Marvel artist Michael Golden (Avengers, G.I. Joe, Micronauts) and writer/editor/colorist Renee Witterstaetter will be signing in-store on Wednesday May 14 from 5pm. This is a rare opportunity to meet these industry legends and pick up some signed books and prints, so don’t miss out on what is sure to be a great night!

Then, once the store closes at 7:30 pm, we’ll have Michael Golden hosting a very special Dynamic Figure Drawing Class for ticketed customers – so if you’d like to take part then secure your place NOW. You can purchase tickets online at the link or pay for them in-store. Places are extremely limited, so act now if you plan on attending this one-off event!

James O’Barr is the award-winning creator of The Crow, and the writer of two hit series from IDW Publishing, entitled Curare and Skinning The Wolves. He likes to lament that he was born in a trailer in Detroit just in time to see Marilyn Monroe and John Kennedy die, but claims no responsibility for either. He spent his first seven years in an orphanage and foster care where he spent most of his time drawing. When he was adopted he brought along his crayons and has been using them ever since. While stationed in Berlin, in the late 70′s he created The Crow as an attempt to deal with the death of his fiance at the hands of a drunk driver. It took nearly ten years to finish and no publisher was interested in it (“too gloomy, too confusing”) until, on a whim, Caliber published the first issue in 1989. It is currently the best selling independent graphic novel of all time at over one million copies sold. In 1993 his book was adapted into the cult film of the same name starring Brandon Lee. He would like you to know that nearly all of the money made from the film was donated to children’s charities and he had nothing to do with the subsequent three sequels or TV show, but he will be a consultant on the new Crow movie that goes into production this year. He has worked for every major publisher. In Italy 1995, he won the Academy Award of comics, the Yellow Kid award for best storyteller.
Recently returned from a record breaking signing tour for the Italian Edition of The Crow, his most recent book is a new sketchbook from Eva Ink Publishing James O’Barr: Uncoffined.

Artist/writer/creator Michael Golden, is a legend in the comic book industry, but one that has never stopped adding to his legacy as a storytelling professional. Co-creator of The X-Men‘s Rogue, Spartan X, and Bucky O’Hare, Michael is known worldwide for his groundbreaking work on The ‘Nam, Micronauts, G.I. Joe Yearbook, and Dr. Strange, among MUCH more, and is counted as one of the best cover designers and illustrators in the business. Golden’s work can be seen on covers from Spawn, Nightwing, Iron Man, Heroes For Hire, Exiles, Demon’s Regret, Spider-man, Vampirella, Captain American, The Punisher to The Hulk, as well as numerous other titles, for about every company out there. It’s no wonder that Golden has been one of the most influential creators around for the last several decades: “… unless you can actually draw yourself, it is very difficult to understand the exact mind-blowing impossibility of what he does,” said writer/artist Larry Hama, of Golden’s work. Michael has served as an Editor at DC Comics as well as Senior Art Director at Marvel Comics, and has worked on scores of movie production projects, some currently in development. He has recently been awarded with Lifetime Achievement Awards from The University of Maryland Eastern Shore and the Lille Arts Festival.

Renee Witterstaetter is the author of Excess: The Art of Michael Golden, Tex: The Art of Mark Texeira, the critically acclaimed Nick Cardy: The Artist at War, Dying for Action: The Life & Films of Jackie Chan, Kerry & the Scary Things, Nick Cardy: Wit-Lash, and much more. Renee began the comic phase of her career working on such titles as Superman at DC Comics and Silver Surfer, Conan The Barbarian and Conan Saga at Marvel, then spearheading the reintroduction of She-Hulk at Marvel. She then moved over to Topps Comics where she was the editor on The X-Files, Jurassic Park, Xena & Hercules and, co-creating with artist Michael Golden, the successful series, Spartan X. Her newest books include Santa Confidential, by Hagar the Horrible artist Chris Browne and the sketchbook James O’Barr: Uncoffined. In addition, Renee has also been the colorist on hundreds of comics from The Avengers to Spider-man to Captain America among many, many more. Film work was a natural progression for Renee after this storytelling immersion in comics, and she has since worked on dozens of music videos for Madonna, Seal, Ben Harper and Usher, as well as the feature movies Crime Story, Rush Hour 2, and Red Dragon, among others. She is the President of Little Eva Ink Publishing and is also currently working in artist management via Eva Ink Artist Group.

VIP attendees at Wizard World Louisville Comic Con, March 28-30 at the Kentucky International Convention Center, will receive a free copy of the limited-edition book at registration.

Golden is scheduled to be on site at the event to sign copies (autograph fees may apply). Leading professional comic grader CGC will also be on hand to accept books for grading and Signature Series.

The colored version of Daredevil #1 will be limited to 3,000 copies and provided free at registration to all Wizard World Louisville Comic Con VIP attendees, including any celebrity VIP packages. The Black & White sketch version is limited to just 2,500 copies and will be available for sale at the Wizard World Store on the convention floor. Quantities per purchase may be limited.

Golden’s Daredevil #1 follows the first three entries, Miracleman #1 and Miracleman #2, both drawn by Eisner Award Hall of Famer Neal Adams for Wizard World Portland Comic Con (Jan. 24-26) and New Orleans Comic Con (Feb. 7-9), respectively, and Wolverine #1, illustrated by noted cover artist Greg Horn, for Wizard World Sacramento Comic Con (March 7-9). Artwork is also complete for Wolverine And The X-Men #1 by David Mack for Wizard World St. Louis Comic Con (April 4-6).

“Having the entire Eisner-Award Winning Daredevil creative team back to help bring the series into All-New Marvel NOW! has been a real treat for us,” says Marvel SVP, Sales & Marketing David Gabriel. “We’re proud to partner with Wizard to commemorate the launch of this exciting new title by having the legendary Michael Golden contribute an exclusive variant.”

Golden, co-creator of the X-Men’s Rogue character, Spartan X and Bucky O’Hare, is known worldwide for his groundbreaking work on “The ‘Nam,” “Micronauts,” “G.I. Joe Yearbook,” and “Dr. Strange,” among many other works. He is counted as one of the best cover designers and storytellers in the business.

“Michael is one of the most popular artists to attend Wizard World Comic Con events, as evidenced by his very well-attended ‘Storytelling’ panels and the lines of fans at his table.” says John Macaluso, Wizard World CEO. “Daredevil #1 is a perfect addition to what has proven to be Marvel’s very successful series at our shows.”

Join Marvel’s fearless hero as he begins his most awe-inspiring adventure yet in the sunny city of San Francisco! Gifted with an imperceptible radar sense and a passion for justice, blind lawyer Matt Murdock—a.k.a. Daredevil—protects the Golden City’s streets from all manner of evil. But big changes are in store for Matt Murdock as old haunts and familiar faces rise to give the devil his due. Hold on tight, because here comes Daredevil…the Man Without Fear! Baltimore Comic-Con Announces Banner List of All-Star Artists!

Capullo, Finch, Prado, and Reis Join the 3 Day Party!

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – February 10, 2014 – Year after year, the staff at the Baltimore Comic-Con strives to make our show bigger and better, and our 15th annual event will be no different. The premiere 3-day gala occurs the weekend of September 5-7, 2014!

Our announced guests today are noteworthy for their artistic contributions to the industry, and specifically their recent work at DC Comics.

BatmanAfter some initial success at small-press publisher FantaCo, Greg Capullo landed work in the 1990s at Marvel Comics on titles such as Quasar, What If..?, and X-Force. Todd MacFarlane approached Capullo to do work for him at Image Comics on MacFarlane’s Spawn, which led to a run on the title, spin-offs, and other notable titles under the Image umbrella including Haunt and Capullo’s The Creech. DC Comics wooed Capullo to take over art duties on Batman during their New 52 relaunch, a run that went on to earn great accolades.

Dark KnightJoining us from Canada, David Finch received recognition for his early work at Top Cow Productions on titles such as Cyberforce, Ascension, and Aphrodite IX. He then went on to spend a number of years at Marvel Comics, working on blockbuster titles including Ultimate X-Men, Avengers (and the relaunched New Avengers), and Moon Knight before jumping into an exclusive contract with DC Comics in 2010 where he flexed his writing muscles as well as his drawing skills on Batman: The Dark Knight. He is currently working on DC’s Forever Evil.

Justice League of AmericaThe Brazilian team of Ivan Reis and Joe Prado will also return to the Baltimore Comic-Con in 2014! Reis began his career at Dark Horse with a long run on Ghost and follow-up work on The Mask, Time Cop, and Xena. He has worked on Marvel titles like Avengers, Iron Man, and Defenders, and at DC on Action Comics, Teen Titans, and Superman. Prado’s line work has graced the pages and covers of DC Comics’ Superman, Teen Titans, Birds of Prey, and Rann/Thanagar War. Together, they are currently working on Justice League and Aquaman and The Others, also from DC Comics.

“We love what these gentlemen have brought to the DC Comics Universe, and comics art in general,” commented Marc Nathan, promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “It is an absolute pleasure to welcome them back, and we know our fans will be thrilled to hear they’ll be joining us again!”
