Win an Adam Hughes Sketch at MegaCon
March 8, 2010 by Colin Solan
Filed under Comic Books, Convention News, Florida
Up for auction is the opportunity to get an original, one of a kind convention sketch from comic artist Adam Hughes.
(Auction ends on March 10, 2010 18:52:42 PST)
As many collectors and fans know, Adam is renowned for his cover art on such books as Catwoman and Wonder Woman, as well as limited run covers for such titles as Powergirl, the Legion of Super Heroes, Joss Whedon’s Serenity and assorted Star Wars projects, to name but a few. His designs for Sideshow Collectibles Marvel Comiquette Statues as well as DC Direct’s Women of the DCU busts and Covergirls statue series are much sought after and enjoyed. This auction is YOUR chance to have one of Adam’s pieces added to your collection, and not just any piece. The artwork you win will be a fully rendered sketch of the character of your choice. The images attached to this auction are an example of the quality of work that the winner can expect to receive.
To participate in this auction, you must meet the following criteria: the artwork must be collected from Adam in person by the winner at the upcoming Mega Con in Orlando, Florida. The dates of the convention are March 12th to March 14th. You must be an attendee at the show, and be able to provide photo ID proving you are the same individual that won this auction. No one else will be allowed to pick up this artwork; so please if you do not plan on being at the Mega Con, do not bid. We cannot make exceptions. You must be able to pay in full via paypal at the close of this auction or make arrangements to pay in cash at the opening of the show. Failure to do so will result in a second chance offer being sent out to the next highest bidder.
The following restrictions will also apply to this auction: Your request may be of a single character of your choosing. Adam reserves the right to add any complimentary characters that he may feel completes the piece of artwork. The artwork will be completed in gray-scale marker as all of Adam’s convention sketches are, with painted highlights added as Adam deems it necessary. The examples included with this auction may look like color was used; Adam achieved this effect using a combination or warm and cool gray tones markers. The artwork will be 11 by 14 inches, and all materials used are archival in quality. No lewd requests will be accepted, nor any content deemed to be offensive. If you ask for something that is either of these, we will politely ask you for a second choice for the subject of your sketch.
Your artwork will be completed at the Mega Con, on the first day of the show, unless other arrangements are made. For example; if you only plan on attending on Saturday, and would like to watch your sketch being worked on, we can move your piece to the first sketch of Saturday. Adam or myself will be in touch with you prior to the convention to talk about your sketch request. You can pick up your artwork from our table at any time during the weekend. However, if you neglect to collect your sketch, you will forfeit it. We cannot be responsible for shipping unclaimed artwork at the end of the show, and as stated earlier, the art MUST be picked up by the auction winner; no substitutions will be allowed.
Thank you for your participation in this auction. I know many people would like us to do this sort of thing for other shows, and even simply to provide Adam’s fans with a source for sketches outside of conventions. This is something we will consider in the coming months. But for now, we are looking forward to the trip to Orlando, and Mega Con, and wish everyone the best of luck in the auction!

Hero Initiative travels to MegaCon, the southeast’s largest comic book, science fiction/fantasy, anime, toys and gaming convention. The event takes place March 12-14 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. You can purchase tickets directly by clicking here!
First up, traveling along with us from Los Angeles is artist Joe Benitez, known for The Darkness, Batman, and Justice League of America! Stop by the booth and pick up an original sketch by Benitez. All proceeds benefit Hero Initiative.
Make sure you come back, because George Pérez, one of the most influential artists of all time, will be at the Hero booth. He’ll be sketching as well, and this is one you don’t want to pass up.

And that’s not all! Florida resident and acclaimed writer Steve Perry will be visiting the Hero booth as well. Perry is best known as one of the original writers of the Thundercats and Silverhawks TV shows, and Timespirits comics. Perry was diagnosed with cancer in February, 2009, and being the single father of a 9-year-old son, he struggled to make ends meet while battling his severe illness. After being homeless, having no work, and living in his car with his son, Hero Initiative is proud to help Perry pull him through this difficult time. He wants to say “thanks” by stopping by. Thank you, Steve!
