LOS ANGELES, CA (Nov. 2, 2011) – The Hero Initiative, the charity dedicated to helping comic creators in medical or financial need, is taking its Justice League of America #50 show on the road.
All 100 original covers created by comics’ top artists are currently available for view on the Hero Initiative Website. And starting in December, you’ll be able to see them live and in person…and own them through on-site auctions according to the following schedule:
• Meltdown Comics, Los Angeles, CA, December 3, 2011: World premiere display of all 100 covers and auction of first one-third
• Tate’s Comics in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, FL area, Jan. 20-22: Display of remaining 2/3 and auction of 1/3.
• Orlando MegaCon in Orlando, FL, Feb. 17-19: Display and auction of final 1/3.
Proxy bidding will also be available for bidders unable to attend the events.
The Justice League of America 100 Project represents Hero Initiative’s first major collaboration with DC Comics. DC generously donated 100 blank-covered cardstock copies of Justice League of America #50 to Hero, and 100 well-known stars such as Alan Davis, George Pérez, John Romita, Alex Ross and many more created original covers for Hero.
“I’m thrilled to be part of such a great project, and also showcased among so many of the greatest artists in the world,” said Hero Initiative Chairman George Pérez. “And of course, it’s wonderful that sales of the covers will go toward helping many comic creators in need.”
Both hardcover and softcover editions of The Justice League of America 100 Project, a book collecting all the covers, will be available for sale at all three auction venues as well.
“We are honored to support such a worthwhile cause and encourage DC Comics fans to participate in these Hero Initiative auctions that offer one-of-a-kind JUSTICE LEAGUE #50 covers,” stated Dan DiDio, co-publisher of DC Entertainment.

Con Artist Alley: The Saga of Rob Granito
March 28, 2011 by Brian Pate
Filed under Comic Books, Convention News, Florida, New Jersey

Since Thursday, when Bleeding Cool posted the article “Who On Earth is Rob Granito?“, the internet has been buzzing with discussion of convention staple Rob Granito, called out for swiping artwork done by other artists and making false claims about his credits in the comic book and animation industries. Heightening the attention this received was the fact that Rob was attending the MegaCon convention in Orlando this past weekend as a “Featured Artist, ” and many waited with anticipation online to see if Rob would show up, and if so, would be confronted about all this and possibly tossed out of the convention. While I believe Rob did make it through the convention (I saw him myself there on Saturday), he was indeed confronted by such attendees as artist Ethan Van Sciver and writer Mark Waid. On YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter, Rob became a hot topic of conversation, and people’s awareness of him has increased tenfold, but not in a way he would have desired, I’m sure.
Rob’s artwork has been exposed as a series of typically poorly-done swipes of other artists. That in and of itself could be a reason for condemnation, but how Rob made things much worse for himself was by inflating his published credits, claiming to work on various comics and animated series, when no one has been able to confirm any of his claims. The latest allegations against him include him paying other artists for commissions that he in turn sold at conventions, claiming that he was the artist of them.
Convention promoters are beginning to respond to all of the attention with the Chiller Theatre Expo apparently removing Rob from the guest list for their upcoming show, and Wizard World allegedly banning him from attending future cons.
A Facebook page called Robert Granito Is A Fraud went from nothing to over 2,000 fans in the past few days and is a good place to keep up with the latest on the story.
Here are also are some videos taken at Rob’s table at MegaCon:
