Press Release:

Comic Illustrator to Defy Death at Coast City Comicon Nerd Rave

Comedy, music and death-defying escapes await those who attend the annual Coast City Comicon Nerd Rave at Empire.

Von GormanPORTLAND, ME – 10/18/2013 – Coast City Comicon is proud to announce this year’s all-star lineup for the annual Nerd Rave concert to be held on November 8 at the newly renovated Empire Dine and Dance. The evening’s entertainment will start off light with the comedy stylings of “Mystery Science Theater 3000″ alum Mary Jo Pehl. Local bands Free Steak Dinner, 4 Player Co-op, and Covered in Bees will provide musical entertainment throughout the night as nerds from near and far dance the night away. The true thrill of the evening lies with Sean Von Gorman, a New York-based comic illustrator and death-defying escape artist. Due to the nature of the show, the Nerd Rave is only open to those 18 and older.

Von Gorman has been making a name for himself in the comics industry by taking matters of marketing and publicity into his own hands. In February 2012, Von Gorman chained himself up outside of Forbidden Planet, a comic shop in New York City, until they sold out of his comic “The Secret Adventures of Houdini.” The escape artist has also been known to pull similar publicity stunts at comic conventions all around the country. For the Nerd Rave, Von Gorman has prepared a special stunt that he calls “Breathless.”

“This is the first time I’ve ever done this stunt for an audience, so quit your job, and sell your kids. You’re not going to want to miss this,” says Von Gorman. “If you miss out on this show, you’ll be the outcast of your community.”

“We’re really excited about the entire lineup. Free Steak Dinner, 4 Player Co-op and Covered in Bees are all Portland mainstays and favorites, but their music speaks to the nature of the event, too,” explains Jarrett Melendez, the Coast City Comicon organizer and promoter. “Mary Jo Pehl and Sean Von Gorman are contributing something really special to the event. We’re going to give our attendees a performance unlike anything they’ve ever seen at a comic convention.”
