Image Comics: Where Creators Own Action

There’s nothing like the thrill of a well-executed action scene, and no other medium can do what comics can. Ivan Brandon’s DRIFTER, Alex de Campi & Carla Speed McNeil’s NO MERCY, Nick Dragotta’s EAST OF WEST, Matt Hawkins’ IXth GENERATION, and Steve Orlando’s VIRGIL all feature some impressive action. Where’s the line between perfect and gratuitous? Is there a line? More importantly, how do you make entertaining action? Ask the experts.

Friday, October 9
12:15-1:15 p.m.
Location: Room 1A21

Image Comics: Where Creators Own Worlds

The beauty of comics is that they can transport you to another place, if you’ll let them. The comics of John Arcudi (RUMBLE), Bryan Edward Hill (POSTAL), Marjorie Liu (MONSTRESS), Declan Shalvey (INJECTION), and Jim Zub (WAYWARD) show us worlds as fantastic as any summer blockbuster, but executed so well that they burn themselves into your memory.

Saturday, October 10
4:15-5:15 p.m.
Location: Room 1A24

Image Comics: Where Creators Own Reality

What makes a weird idea “real?” Brian K. Vaughan & Cliff Chiang (PAPER GIRLS), Jonathan Luna & Sarah Vaughn (ALEX + ADA), and Joe Keatinge & Leila del Duca (SHUTTER) make the fantastic into an everyday affair while never losing sight of the fact that stunning readers is part of the magic of comics. Come see what’s so realistic about high-tech love, dark mysteries, and lion-gangsters.

Sunday, October 11
1:15-2:15 p.m.
Location: Room 1A21

Image Comics: Where Creators Own Craft

Comics artists put in a lot of work to get your favorite funny books on your bookshelves. What does it take to be a comics artist? How hard is it to create an aesthetic or find your style? Wes Craig (DEADLY CLASS), Shane Davis (AXCEND), Bob Fingerman (MINIMUM WAGE), Jason Latour (SOUTHERN BASTARDS), Riley Rossmo (RASPUTIN), and Matt Wilson (THE WICKED + THE DIVINE) create some of the best comics around, and have the answers you seek.

WonderCon to Remain in Anaheim for 2013; Special Guests Include Dean Koontz, Marjorie Liu, Doug Mahnke, Etc.

Comments Off on WonderCon to Remain in Anaheim for 2013; Special Guests Include Dean Koontz, Marjorie Liu, Doug Mahnke, Etc.

Comic-Con posted the following announcement to their website concerning WonderCon 2013:

WonderCon Anaheim logoAs many of you are aware, it has been our hope to return to San Francisco for WonderCon 2013.

We have been waiting for information on the availability of the Moscone Center and were just officially offered dates, though they were for the fall.

However, those dates coincide with another very large city wide event, and this has resulted in some unavoidable conflicts. Among them hotel room blocks we explored near, and not so near, the Moscone Center started at $300 per night.

This, along with the expected difficulty of exhibitors and attendees in securing airfare for those outside of driving distance of San Francisco for that weekend, has resulted in us not being able to secure San Francisco as a location for WonderCon in 2013.

However, because we knew there was a possibility of not being able to return to San Francisco, we have scheduled WonderCon: Anaheim to be held March 29-31, 2013. Hopefully we will be able to return WonderCon to San Francisco sometime soon.

And here is some additional information:

Comic-Con International Presents WonderCon Anaheim

March 29-31, 2013 at the Anaheim Convention Center

WonderCon returns to the Anaheim Convention Center Easter weekend, March 29-31, for three big days of comics and popular arts fun! After a very successful first event in Anaheim in the spring of 2012, WonderCon Anaheim 2013 will include a giant Exhibit Hall (this year in Halls A and B of the Convention Center), multiple programming tracks, plus the Masquerade, Anime, Games, and much more.

Early details on the event include ten special guests who have been confirmed for the March show: Dean Koontz (author, Odd Thomas series, Frankenstein series), Marjorie Liu (writer, Astonishing X-Men), Doug Mahnke (artist, Green Lantern), Ann Nocenti (writer, Green Arrow, Katana), Jason Palmer (artist/illustrator, Indiana Jones Blu-ray set, Serenity, Star Wars), Dan Slott (writer, Superior Spider-Man), Jeff Smith (cartoonist, Bone, RASL), Steranko (writer/artist, Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and WonderCon friends cartoonist Sergio Aragonés and writer Mark Evanier. (More guests are coming soon…check back for details!)

You Can Exhibit at WonderCon Anaheim 2013!

WonderCon Anaheim offers exhibitors — including retailers, publishers, artists, and other creative folk — a number of opportunities to showcase their work and product at the event. Booths and table space are available. Click here to download the WonderCon Anaheim 2013 Exhibitor Application.

More information is coming soon about WonderCon Anaheim 2013. Check back for info regarding hotel reservations, additional special guests, badge sales, and more. Bring the family and spend Easter weekend at WonderCon Anaheim right next door to the Walt Disney Theme Parks!
