UT – Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: 2 Fuzzy 2 Furious Signing

Shannon Hale and Dean Hale appear at The King’s English on Friday, March 16, 2018 at 7:00 PM to sign The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: 2 Fuzzy 2 Furious, the newest novel in their Squirrel Girl series.

Doreen Green, age fourteen, is a little too busy wiping out crime in her suburban New Jersey neighborhood to focus on her overdue homework. That’s because she also happens to be Squirrel Girl, a bushy-tailed, squirrel-powered Super Hero! After foiling the nefarious plot of an amateur Super Villain, Squirrel Girl is finally finding her groove–and group texting with the Avengers, like, all the time. Doreen, on the other hand, is still trying to navigate friendships, evil teachers, and all the pitfalls that come with middle school. (Seriously, it’s complicated.)

An announcement goes out that sends waves of excitement through the community: There’s a new mall opening on the border of Shady Oaks and neighboring town Listless Pines, and they all get to vote on the mall’s mascot! Everyone goes wild over the election . . . a little too wild, if you ask Squirrel Girl and her BHFF (Best Human Friend Forever), Ana Sofia. Soon the two towns are at war–even the trusty Squirrel Scouts are going berserk. Is there something sinister at work in Shady Oaks? Something that has less to do with quality shopping choices and more to do with world domination? And will Squirrel Girl be able to unleash the furry paws of justice in time to save the day?

Places in the signing line are reserved for those who purchase a copy of The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: 2 Fuzzy 2 Furious from The King’s English.

Shannon Hale and Dean Hale are the award-winning husband-and-wife team behind the Princess in Black series, illustrated by LeUyen Pham. Shannon Hale is also the author of the Newbery Honor novel Princess Academy as well as the New York Times best-selling series Ever After High.

UT – Islandborn Signing

Artist Junot Díaz and illustrator Leo Espinosa appear at the Rowland Hall Upper School on Friday, March 23rd at 7:00 PM to present and sign ISLANDBORN!

The purchase of a $20 Family Ticket from The King’s English Bookshop includes a copy of Islandborn and general admission seating for up to four people. Tickets go on sale now!

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Junot Díaz’s first foray into children’s books is an ode to the power of our imaginations to connect us to the past. In Islandborn, young Lola, who was born in the Dominican Republic and lives in New York City, is asked by her teacher to draw a picture of her home country, except that she moved from the Island as a baby and does not remember it at all. She turns to her family members and asks them to share their stories. She learns about their happiest moments in the Dominican Republic, as well as the darker parts of the country’s history. Through their anecdotes, she creates her drawing. Islandborn touches on immigration, struggling to find a place of belonging, and identity.

Lavishly illustrated by Utah artist Leo Espinosa, this picture book will delight the entire family.

Junot Díaz won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award for The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao. He is also the author of the story collections Drown and the National Book Award finalist This Is How You Lose Her. He serves as fiction editor at Boston Review and professor of creative writing at MIT. His many honors include a MacArthur Fellowship, induction into the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Dayton Literary Peace Prize.
