Kevin Smith speaks live at The Pabst Theater on Sunday March 25, 2012 at 7:30 PM.
Next Chapter Bookshop welcomes acclaimed writer/director Kevin Smith for an evening of conversation about life, work, and his new memoir Tough Sh*t: Life Advice From A Fat, Lazy Slob That Did Good. Kevin will be LIVE in conversation with Lanora Haradon, owner of Next Chapter Bookshop. The program will last approximately 90 minutes.
Each admission ticket includes an autographed copy of Kevin’s new book Tough Sh*t.
Tickets are available directly from The Pabst Theater box office.
Kevin Smith will be the first to admit that he’s an unlikely source for life advice. After all, he’s that overweight guy who did that movie Clerks a million years ago. But take a second look at Kevin Smith: he’s spent the past 15 years doing whatever he wants and getting paid for it. And he has a hot wife, too. In his new book TOUGH SH*T: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good, nothing is off limits. It’s a memoir that unlocks his unlikely path to success – Smith tells stories of how he fell in love with movies as a child and watched George Carlin with his dad, of his first time taking a pilgrimage to the Angelika in big, scary New York with his movie-buff buddy, and how after a successful run of 10 movies he decided the best thing he could do for his career would be to blow the whole thing up. And don’t think that Kevin Smith, (the man who made bromance movies before “bromance” was even a word) doesn’t get dirty. This isn’t a book of feel-good stories. It’s a book of Tough Sh*t. He talks about the critics who’ve savaged his films and the actors and executives who’ve made him hate what he loves. He discusses his fallout out with Harvey Weinstein and The Weinstein Company and his feuds with Bruce Willis. He examines his struggles with weight, the infamous Southwest Airlines incident, and why he decided to start smoking pot at the age of 38. But he also tells you the good stuff you get if you suffer through the Tough Sh*t. Like his amazing wife Jen, who suffers through marriage to a sex-obsessed fatty. And working with his idol George Carlin. And one of the biggest thrills of his life: when he got to watch a movie he made– an homage to Quentin Tarantino – with Quentin Tarantino. And sprinkled throughout, Kevin offers his readers gems of life advice that have helped him along the way: like what he learned from his hero Wayne Gretzky – ““Don’t go where the puck’s been; go where it’s gonna be,” from the very act of conception – “You’re a big, fat bucket of win when you begin this crapshoot life.”—and from Ferris Bueller: “You can never go too far. But if you’re gonna get busted, don’t let it be by a guy like that.”Fanboys, film-buffs, stoners, fatties, skinnies, Smodcasters and anyone who wants to know how to get away with getting paid for doing what they love will find something to like in this book. And if you don’t like what he has to say, Kevin’s response is a no-brainer: TOUGH SH*T.

Ralph Garman and Kevin Smith babble on at the Allen Theatre on Wednesday August 24, 2011 at 7:30pm!
Ralph’s the guy you never listen to on morning radio. Kevin’s the guy who makes movies you never go see. And yet every week, they have the balls to make fun of their TinselTown betters. Their show may be the funniest thing you see at CityWalk… unless you spot Kev steering with his knees because he’s eating two Cinnabons while pulling out of the valet parking lot.
