Hero Initiative Hits Orlando MegaCon

With Special Guest Artist Ken Lashley

Los Angeles (May 19, 2016) Hero Initiative, the non-profit organization that aids comic book creators in medical and financial need, will be adding to the craziness at the Orlando MegaCon, May 26-29 at the Orange County Convention Center Hall D, located at 9800 International Drive in Orlando, Fla.

Anchoring our booth during the four-day extravaganza is artist Ken Lashley best known for his work on Flash, Excalibur and Suicide Squad. He will be signing and sketching so make sure you bring your books! All donations will benefit the great cause of Hero Initiative!

In addition, artists across the floor will be raising money for Hero all weekend. Generously donate $1 per signature and it’s a win-win for all! Check out participating creators Arthur Adams and Joyce Chin, Greg Land, Jae Lee, Jose Marzan Jr., Brian Pulido, Gail Simone, and Frank Tieri.

New York Comic Con hosts their Fifth Annual Charity Art Auction to benefit the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on Saturday, October 10th at 7:00 PM in Room 1A18! For more details and to see a preview of the art, click here…

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Included in that vision is that no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

The auctioneer for the charity event will be Steve Borock! Steve is the president of CBCS (Comic Book Certification Service), an expert, impartial third party grading service; He also serves on the board of the Hero Initiative, a charity helping comic book creators in financial need. He believes in charity for all in need and is proud to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with our original art auction!

Your participation in this event will help support lifesaving research and treatment for the children of St. Jude. Come down and bid with other art enthusiasts for the chance to own a piece of original art from some of your favorite creators, all for a good cause!

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 16, 2013) – The Hero Initiative, the charitable organization dedicated to helping veteran comic creators in medical or financial need, is travelling into Comic-Con International in San Diego July 23-27 at the San Diego Convention center. We have exclusives, parties and special guests throughout the weekend at booth #5003 that you will not want to miss!

Hero Initiative Overstreet 2014It’s an anniversary for the Hero Initiative and The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide. This year marks the fifth consecutive year Gemstone Publishing and Hero have teamed up to raise money for comic creators in need. Harkening back to the character’s earliest appearances, Wolverine is featured with the Hulk and Wendigo on the cover for The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #44 Hero Initiative Edition. Returning even further to Wolverine’s roots, the Hero-exclusive cover is illustrated by Herb Trimpe, who teamed with a pair of superstars, inker Tom Palmer and colorist Laura Martin, for the piece. Gemstone Publishing’s Creative Director Mark Huesman designed the logo and trade dress.

This exclusive, 500-copy, limited hardcover edition will go on sale at Comic-Con International: San Diego on Wednesday, July 23, at our booth. An extremely limited number of copies will be available from Hero’s website and through a select group of participating retailers. There will be no softcover edition of this version, and it will retail for $35.

KEN LASHLEY – Ken has worked on titles such as Flash, Black Panther, Deadpool, X-Men, Batwing, Red Hood and the Outlaws and more! He also has credits on several DC New52 covers such as Suicide Squad, Superboy, Ravagers, Team 7, Blackhawks, plus lots of Star Wars related work for Hasbro, Lucasfilm, and LucasArts!

MARCUS TO – Marcus has worked on a several series for companies like DC Comics, Archaia, and Aspen such as Red Robin, Batwing, The Huntress, and the upcoming Cyborg 009 based on the original Japanese manga and anime created by Shotaro Ishinomori. Cyborg 009 will see release in both North America and Japan.

TY TEMPLETON – Ty Has written, penciled, and inked countless titles for DC, Marvel, and many other publishers. Most recently Ty has been providing art for Ultimate Spider-Man based on the popular animated series. Ty also runs “Ty Templeton’s Comic Book Bootcamp”, where he teaches up and coming creators the ins and outs of the comic industry!

ADAM GORHAM – Adam is the artist of the gritty medieval tale ‘Teuton’ published by Big Sexy Comics. Previously Adam made quite an impression with his graphic novel adaptation of Canadian indie film ‘The Vampire Conspiracy’, and has also contributed to the Western Horror anthology “Horror in the West”. “Undertow” is another title Adam has worked on which will be published in the near future.

VINCE SUNICO and Members of Spent Pencils – Vince Sunico has been appearing at Stadium Comics since 2008 and his recent work includes our store exclusive variant covers for Aspen Comics’ Shrugged and Jirni. Vince wlll also be releasing “Remnant” through IDW later this year. Spent Pencils is the Greater Toronto area’s largest collective of artists. The Spent Pencils crew is always a fan favourite at Stadium and conventions across North America!

DAVID BISHOP – David is the writer and illustrator of the Zombie Survival tale “Stranger”. He also famously worked with our own Ricky Lima on the haunting “Deep Sea”, of which we will see more of later this year. David is also working on art for “Of Stone”.

GEORGE TODOROVSKI – An independent artist from Toronto who is co-creator of the hilarious The Bear Stories graphic novels and webcomic. George is also the regular artist on the Dungeon Crawler Adventures web comic, and he has also had his work appear in Heavy Metal Magazine.

PARIS ALLEYNE – Up and coming young comic artist who has tons of potential, Paris is building quite the portfolio for himself while collaborating with other creators.

What is Free Comic Book Day?
Free Comic Book Day is held on the first Saturday in May every year. Participating comic stores all across North America give away comics for FREE to anyone who enters their store on that day.

Free Comic Book Day is meant to promote and celebrate comic books as great literature and a true artform.

Stadium Comics runs one of the largest Free Comic Book Day events in Canada. In addition to the free comics, the Brampton, Ontario comic shop brings in several guest artists and creators to sign and sketch for fans. Combined with the raffles and contests, and their biggest sale of the year, Free Comic Book Day at Stadium is one event that you don’t want to miss!

Stadium Comics is pleased to announce our next event and signing which will happen on Saturday, June 23rd 2012. This signing will be a fundraiser for the HERO Initiative, and we are super excited about the lineup of artists that will be joining us:

Ken Lashley – Comic book artist on numerous titles such as Blackhawks, Flash, Black Panther, Deadpool, X-Men, Batwing, and more! Plus lots of Star Wars related work for Hasbro, Lucasfilm, and LucasArts!

Leonard Kirk – Comic book artist on numerous titles such as X-Factor, X-Men, Supergirl, Superman, Sigil, Star Trek, New Mutants, Incredible Hulk, Aquaman, JSA, and more!

Richard Zajac – Inker on a number of projects including The Huntress, G.I. Joe, Soulfire and more! Richard also has contributed pencils to Hero Initiative books, and Thoughtless!

Agnes Garbowska – a fan favourtie at Stadium, Agnes has worked on several projects for Marvel Comics including Girl Comics and Spider-Ham. She also is the creator of several titles such as Waking Up Abbey, Imagination Station, and You, Me, and Zombie! Agnes contributes regularly to Saturday Morning Webtoons as the artist on Boo Bear and Flo.

Each artist will be sketching to raise money for Hero. There will be blank covers available for people to have sketched on, and there will be some really cool Hero Initiative merchandise, such as the Ultimate Spider-Man 100 project, the Hulk 100 project, and the Wolverine 100 project comics – which some of the artists that are attending have worked on!

We’ll also hold some raffles, and a big sale on merchandise inside the store!

NEW YORK and TORONTO, March 7, 2012 – Artist Alley will be abuzz as more than 100 talented  creators, known for their work on virtually every blockbuster comics franchise, are scheduled attendance at Wizard World Toronto Comic Con, April 14-15 at Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC).  The collection of superstars features international guests as well as top GTA talent, and more are expected to join in the coming weeks.

Toronto Comic Con is scheduled as the second stop on Wizard World’s 2012 North American tour.  Hours are Saturday, April 14, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; and Sunday, April 15, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.  Tickets are available in advance online at http://www.wizardworldcomiccon.com/toronto.html at a savings over tickets purchased at the door.  Advance adult single-day tickets are priced at $25 ($38 on site); two-day tickets are $40 ($55 on site), and tickets are free for children age 10 and under when accompanied by a paid adult (limit two children per adult).  VIP packages with special entry and exclusive items are also available on a limited basis.
