Joe Madureira is set to attend the Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con taking place June 11-13, 2010.

Via Wizard World:

Joe Madureira (often called Joe Mad), is a comic book writer/artist and game developer, best known for his work on Marvel Comics’ Uncanny X-Men and his creator-owned comic book Battle Chasers.

Madureira’s first published work was an eight-page story for the anthology series Marvel Comics Presents, starring Northstar. He became the regular penciler on Uncanny X-Men in 1994 illustrating that book’s installments of the “Age of Apocalypse” storyline.

He left Uncanny X-Men in 1997 to work on his own sword and sorcery series Battle Chasers for Wildstorm Comics’ creator-owned Cliffhanger imprint (before it was sold to DC Comics).

Madureira produced a total of nine issues in four years. He placed the series “on hold” after forming a game development company called Tri-Lunar with Tim Donley and Greg Peterson.

With Tri-Lunar, he created concept art on a game called Dragonkind which was canceled when Tri-Lunar went out of business. He then went to work for Realm Interactive, another start-up company, on Trade Wars: Dark Millennium. When Realm Interactive was acquired by NCsoft, he continued to contribute to the game as it evolved into Exarch, and was eventually released as Dungeon Runners.

Madureira returned to the comic book industry as the artist on Marvel’s The Ultimates 3, with writer Jeph Loeb. The second issue was published in January 2008, the third issue released on February 20, 2008. Ultimates 3 #4 came out on June 25, 2008.

In July 2007, Vigil Games’ Darksiders was announced, of which Joe Madureira was creative director. It follows War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, on his quest to find out who prematurely triggered the apocalypse. It was released on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 on January 5, 2010.

Joe has also provided cover artwork for Capcom’s Marvel Super Heroes for the Sega Saturn and Sony Playstation, and the Sony Playstation game Gekido: Urban Warriors.

UK – Darksiders Signing

Joe Madureira signs on Thursday 07 January 18:00 – 19:00 5:00pm

London Megastore

Forbidden Planet, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, UK

On Thursday 7th January, comics legend Joe Madureira will be launching the fantastic THQ game DARKSIDERS at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London.

Featuring the kind of extreme combat featured in titles such as Devil May Cry, Darksiders begins with the End of the World – and you are War, the first Horseman of the Apocalypse, battling the forces of both Heaven and Hell. Use spectacular supernatural powers, journey across wastelands and through the demon-infested dungeons of the decimated Earth – and destroy all who stand in your way in your search for vindication.

The game’s epic, comic-book inspired visual art style has been drawn by Joe Madureira, the massively popular artist for the Uncanny X-Men in the late 1990s and for Marvel’s Ultimates 3. Dubbed by Wizard Magazine ‘one of the ten most influential comic artists of all time’ Joe’s work has also included computer games such as Dungeon Runners and cover art for multiple gaming magazines.

This is the first place, anywhere in the UK, that fans will be able to buy the game – available on both PS3 and Xbox 360 formats. There will also be a gamepod in the store throughout the afternoon.

Joe Madureira got his start in comics with MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS, DEADPOOL and EXCALIBER. After a well received guest stint, Madureira went on to become the regular penciler of UNCANNY X-MEN. Madureira’s anime inspired artwork led the title to new heights of popularity. Madureira also illustrated four issues of ASTONISHING X-MEN during the classic AGE OF APOCALYPSE storyline.

After a three year stint on UNCANNY X-MEN, Madureira left Marvel to work on his creator owned title, BATTLE CHASERS; which Madureira wrote and drew for Wildstorm Comics’ creator-owned Cliffhanger imprint.

Following BATTLE CHASERS, Madureira took a long sabbatical from comics to work in the video game industry. In 2008, Madureira returned to comics as the artist on THE ULTIMATES 3 with writer Jeph Loeb.

Currently, Madureira is the creative director of Vigil Games’ DARKSIDERS, which will be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 in early 2010.
