Frank Cho Plans for Big Wow 2012

Artist Frank Cho posted about his plans for Big Wow Comic Fest on his blog:
The great Big Wow Comic Fest in San Jose is just around the corner. Again this year, I’ll be holding one of my very rare art classes where I’ll teach drawing the female figure- veeeery sexy female figures. (This is a felony in some southern states, I believe.) Again this year, the lovely and culo-rrific Ivy Doomkitty will model for me at the live figure drawing class. She’ll be dressed as Dejah Thoris and belly dance for us. (She’s a professional belly-dancer. I kid you not.)
The wonderful thing about Big Wow Comic Fest is that it focuses on the art of drawing and painting comic books. There will be various free art workshops at the convention for the fans, including a costume making workshop for cos-players and acrylic/oil painting classes for fine art lovers. The fans can just watch or draw along with the artists, or just get your comic books autographed – because Big Wow Comic Fest is still a comic book convention.
Don’t forget, This year’s stellar guest list includes the great Jim Lee, Juanjo “Blacksad” Guarnido, Bernie Wrightson, Travis Charest, Kevin Nowlan, Joe Jusko, Bill Morrison, Tim Sale, Brandon Peterson, James O’Barr, Michael Golden, Mike Choi, Tim Vigil, and many many more.

Jim Lee and Geoff Johns return to Midtown Comics! Jim and Geoff sign the new Justice League Vol. 1 hardcover at Midtown Comics Downtown on Friday May 11th for the first 200 fans in line starting at 6:00pm.
Purchase of Justice League Vol. 1 HC from Midtown Comics is required to attend the signing.
As a part of the monumental DC Comics—The New 52 event, comics superstars Geoff Johns and Jim Lee bring you an all-new origin story for the Justice League!
In a world where inexperienced superheroes operate under a cloud of suspicion from the public, loner vigilante Batman has stumbled upon a dark evil that threatens to destroy the earth as we know it. Now, faced with a threat far beyond anything he can handle on his own, the Dark Knight must trust an alien, a scarlet speedster, an accidental teenage hero, a space cop, an Amazon Princess and an undersea monarch. Will this combination of Superman, The Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman and Aquaman be able to put aside their differences and come together to save the world? Or will they destroy each other first?
In one of the most game-changing titles in comic industry history, Geoff Johns and Jim Lee re-imagine the classic heroes of the DC Universe for the 21st century. This volume collects issues #1-6 of Justice League, part of the DC Comics—The New 52 event.
JIM LEE: Jim Lee is a renowned comic book artist and the Co-Publisher of DC Entertainment. Prior to his current post, Lee served as Editorial Director, where he oversaw WildStorm Studios and was also the artist for many of DC Comics’ bestselling comic books and graphic novels, including ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER, BATMAN: HUSH, and SUPERMAN: FOR TOMORROW. He also serves as the Executive Creative Director for the DC Universe Online (DCUO) massively multiplayer action game from Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). As part of DC Comics-The New 52, Lee is drawing JUSTICE LEAGUE.
GEOFF JOHNS: Geoff Johns is one of the most prolific and popular of contemporary comic book writers, and the Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment. He’s written highly acclaimed stories starring Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash and more, and is currently the writer of FLASHPOINT and GREEN LANTERN. After leaving Detroit to work for director Richard Donner in Los Angeles, Johns began writing for DC Comics in the late 90s, and has since written defining runs on THE FLASH and, most recently, GREEN LANTERN. As part of DC Comics-The New 52, Johns will be writing JUSTICE LEAGUE, GREEN LANTERN and the new AQUAMAN series.

WonderCon 2012 Con Report!
March 22, 2012 by Richard Oh
Filed under California, Comic Books, Con Reports and Photos, L.A. Sequential, Top Stories
When I first heard that WonderCon was going to be in Anaheim this year, I was partially thrilled, only because I’d save money on airfare and hotel stays. However, I completely forgot that SF has one thing over LA, which is less traffic.
Due to horrible weather over the weekend, in conjunction with two other events going on in the same venue (a cheerleading competition and a volleyball tournament), Anaheim was definitely overcrowded. To be honest, I can’t wait for this show to move back to San Francisco where I feel it truly belongs.
The show itself didn’t seem like the normal WonderCon. Perhaps because it was in the same venue as Wizard World Anaheim, it felt like a bigger version of it. Hollywood’s presence was definitely felt at the show, with big showings of Prometheus with Sir Ridley Scott in attendance, to Spider-Man’s Emma Stone, along with the casts of popular TV shows Community, Fringe, and Alcatraz, WonderCon’s star power was bright.
Artist’s Alley was in full swing, with many transactions occurring over the weekend. And while it didn’t seem too crowded, there was definitely a lot of hustle and bustle, and the show seemed to always be busy.
Again, while this weekend may have been a success, I definitely miss the atmosphere of San Francisco, and while it’s cheaper, it’s definitely worth the money to visit the Bay Area and enjoy the sights and sounds that Northern California has to offer.
I couldn’t take too many pictures as my battery was extremely low over the weekend, but here’s a look at some of the things WonderCon had to offer!

The dreary weather looms over the Anaheim Convention Center.

The crowds going in and out of the show floor lobby.

Fans get to pose in front of the giant Avengers poster with Mjolnir and Cap's shield at the Marvel booth!

People also got to pose in front of the green screen at DC's booth, where they printed out your picture right there! Oh the wonders of modern technology.

The crowds of people rushing to their destinations on the show floor!

The extremely busy artist alley at WonderCon!

One half of the line for the hallroom showing Prometheus!

Bane shrugging around.

The best costume of WonderCon.

Art Adams taking a commission list at the beginning of the show.

The busiest man in Artist Alley: Scott Snyder!

Jim Lee meet and greeting his many fans at the DC booth!

The cast and creators of Fringe!

Gillian Jacobs of Community smiles during press roundtable interviews.

Yvette Nicole Brown talking about future episodes of Community.

Mr. Chou (or Chang)!

Joseph Gordon Levitt at WonderCon promoting Looper!

Big Bird bids adieu and hopes to see you at WonderCon next year!
