James Jean’s first solo show in Los Angeles opens at Martha Otero Gallery on March 12th, 2011, from 6-9pm. The show will feature major paintings completed this past year and a special wall installation: the textures, color, and scale of the work is meant to be appreciated in an intimate setting, while strange narratives play out in giant triptychs, tondos, and ziggurats.

Fashion’s Night Out is this September 10th at 7pm, and Phillip Lim has invited me to create portraits of L.A.-based actors, musicians, and tastemakers that will be on display at their beautiful flagship store in West Hollywood. Proceeds from the sale of the portraits will benefit the LACMA Costume Council. Please contact Jaime Carcia, VP West Coast of 3.1 Phillip Lim, at jaime@31philliplim.com to be put on the list for the artwork. All pieces will be available for preview about a week before the show opens. The show will only be up for a few days, so I hope you can attend the opening! Be ready for music, food trucks, and an open bar sponsored by Patrón.

Filed under California, Comic Books, Other, Signing and Appearance Profiles

James Jean appears at Hint Mint House on December 12th from 7 – 10pm, a pop-up gallery/event space/retail store in Venice, CA, introducing his latest collection of prints… but unlike any prints James has ever done before, these are all printed on metal!
The 3 new prints (each in an edition of 100), are based on the images James created for the 2009-2010 Hint Mint Limited Edition Artist Series mint tins. All the “Tinplate Prints” will be signed, numbered and available exclusively through Hint Mint.
But what is an art opening without a party? Oh yes, party there will be! For starters, there will be an open bar, DJ, Video Art, and surprise entertainment!
In the Gallery, there will be an exhibit detailing the process of how James’ original Hint Mint images were created. Along with this “process” exhibit, there will be a selection of other hand picked works which will be on display for one week only.
Last but not least, it is Christmas time! The Hint Mint House store will be open for you to get your shopping on with James Jean books and merchandise (including signed and sold out items). Supplies are limited so come early!
Oh yes… there’s more: During the event all James Jean merchandise will be 20% off (excluding art, prints, and signed items).
Saturday December 12th
7 – 10 pm.

The Autograph Schedule for SDCC is now available.
Scheduled signers, just to name a few, include Olivia Munn, Clive Barker, Neil Gaiman, John Kricfalusi, James Jean, Jim Caviezel, Jamie Campbell-Bower, Robert Carlyle, Alaina Huffman, Ming-Na, Adam West, Alan Dean Foster, Jim Valentino, Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington, Yaphet Kotto, Elvira, Thomas Jane, Kathy Najimy, Adrian Paul, Brande Roderick, J. Michael Straczynski, and Jane Wiedlin.
Located upstairs in the Sails Pavilion, the Autograph Area is the place to go for a special memento from a variety of artists, authors and actors from every era of popular culture. Some are signing right after their spotlight panel, so check the program grid daily.
The Autograph Area is open from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM Thursday through Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. No autograph sessions will be held before or after these times, but fans are welcome to come on up and get in line when the convention hall opens.
Due to high demand and the limited time available from notables appearing to sign autographs, the Autograph Area Coordinator may at any time shut down a line, even if people are still waiting for an autograph. We apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment.
Changes and surprise additions will occur throughout the show, so be sure to check the daily newsletter and the information boards located throughout the center. Schedules will be posted at the Autograph Area Information Desk, staffed 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM Thursday through Saturday, and 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM Sunday.
Most autograph signings are of a limited nature. Your badge does not guarantee autographs at any event.
All guests (that are at tables, booths, etc.) are required to sign one Program Book for free.
