The Comic Bug is launching its most ambitious FREE COMIC BOOK DAY event to date. The store has doubled orders for FREE COMICS from previous years, stocking over 20,000 free comic books to give away to attendees.

Over two dozen comic creators will be on-hand to meet comic fans, including UNCANNY AVENGERS/CAPTAIN AMERICA writer RICK REMENDER, SIMPSONS artist PHIL ORTIZ, DEADPOOL artist SCOTT KOBLISH and ELEPHANTMEN creator RICHARD STARKINGS.

In addition to comic book creator talent, some of Los Angeles most renowned COSPLAYERS will be available to take pictures with fans and family members. Attendees can expect to see the likes of WONDER WOMAN, BATMAN, SCARLETT WITCH and G.I. JOE’s THE BARONESS. The BEACH CITY ROLLER DERBY GIRLS will also be on-hand to help distribute free comics and perform stunts for onlookers.

The Comic Bug is also publishing the first-ever comic book store EXCLUSIVE free comic, GUNS A’BLAZIN /MOUSTACHETRONAUTS TEASER PLEASER EDITION, limited to 500 copies. The creators will be attending to sign and draw sketches for attendees.

The day will wrap up with an after-party for the creators featuring live music by The Do-Its and a DJ set by DJ C-DIDDY.

We’re proud to announce a signing with writer James Asmus (Thief of Thieves) February 27 at the Portland TFAW from 7 to 10 p.m. Writer/performer Asmus will be signing copies of Gambit from Marvel Comics, as well as his new creator-owned series from Image Comics, The End Times of Bram & Ben. Free food and beer (21+ with valid ID) will be provided.

The X-Men’s Ragin’ Cajun returns to a life of crime in Gambit, an action-packed solo series with art by Clay Mann (X-Men Legacy). The End Times of Bram & Ben, Asmus’s hilarious collaboration with Jim Festante and Rem Broo, presents a totally different story: when the Rapture happens, Bram is taken to heaven due to a clerical mistake–only to be immediately returned. Now he and his more level-headed friend Ben must contend with the upcoming Armageddon–not to mention a world full of “sinners.”

James Asmus is a long-time writer, performer, and theater playwright, with works produced in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, and Portland, Oregon. In addition to Gambit and The End Times of Bram & Ben, he is currently co-writing Thief of Thieves for Image Comics with Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead). TFAW will have a wide range of Asmus’s comics available for purchase–don’t miss out on this fantastic signing February 27!

A young artist takes a job at a department store in order to make ends meet… little does he know that he may meet his end! In this gothic story for fans of Black Swan, Blankets, and The Devil Wears Prada. Join Sina and his friends Blair Butler, Gerry Duggan, and James Asmus, and Nerdist Writers Panelist moderator Ben Blacker, for the LA release of Not My Bag!

Blair Butler is an American stand-up comic and television host, known for her work on the “Fresh Ink” segment on the G4 program, Attack of the Show! Her first graphic novel, HEART, is out through Image Comics.

Gerry Duggan is a writer for Attack of the Show!, as well as such comic books as Marvel’s Deadpool (with Brian Posehn) and the Infinite Horizon with Phil Noto from Image Comics.

James Asmus is a writer of comic books, theater, comedy, and scripts of all kind. Plus an extensive resume of improv, comedy, and acting. He currently writes Gambit for Marvel and Thief of Thieves for Robert Kirkman’s Skybound imprint at Image Comics.
