Artist Craig Rousseau (co-creator of The Perhapanauts and penciller on titles including Captain America, Iron Man, and Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane) is raising money to fight cancer by donating comics and art! On August 6, 2011 he is participating in this year’s Pan-Mass Challenge, a two-day, 84 mile bike-a-thon from Wellesley to Bourne which raises money for the Jimmy Fund and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Craig writes on his blog, “Simply put, cancer sucks… and I’m hoping you can help me raise money to fight it.”
Craig is offering several incentives for donating to the cause. He says, “Since I don’t work in an office or have a “real” job with fellow employees, I’m asking YOU to help me raise that money and make a donation. But one of the perks of MY job is the stuff I make… and I figure, if you can help me out, I’d like to return the favor.”
-every donation made gets you a free, signed comic.
-any donation over $25 gets you an EXCLUSIVE free Choopie print (still in the works, but that’s the prelim above)
-any donation of $50 gets a free head sketch (your choice)
-any donation of $100 or more gets a free full figure b/w sketch (your choice)…
-and $150 or more gets you the free sketch AND a page from a recent Marvel project (my pick)
His goal is to raise $5,000. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a good cause and get some great art as well. To donate, please click the link to Craig’s rider profile!
HeroesCon 2011 is only a few short weeks away but still has some exciting guests to announce! We’ll start today’s update with Ethan Van Sciver, whose work on Green Lantern, Green Lantern: Rebirth and Flash: Rebirth have made him one of DC’s go-to artists. He’s also illustrated popular runs on titles like Impulse, Superman/Batman, and New X-Men.
Comic strip fans rejoice! Gasoline Alley’s own Jim Scancarelli will be making another HeroesCon appearance this year. Not only has Jim been working on the legendary strip since the eighties, but he’s also a respected bluegrass musician. Jim’s also a really nice guy, so make sure you stop by and welcome him back to HeroesCon!
Dennis the Menace’s own Marcus Hamilton also returns to HeroesCon this year. Before landing the job of illustrating the Dennis dailies, Marcus worked in freelance illustration, providing covers for books, magazines, and various advertisements. Marcus and Jim both live in the Charlotte area and we’re proud to have two talented locals continuing to produce high quality comic strips.
HeroesCon takes place on June 3 – 5, 2011 at the Charlotte Convention Center (501 S. College St, Charlotte, NC 28202). For the full guest list and more details about the convention, please check out their website at the link!
