MA – Green Lantern Signing

Friend of Hub Joe Quinones is all over the comics world lately. He’s done covers for both DC and Marvel; his Green Lantern work for last year’s Wednesday Comics is out now in hardcover.

Wednesday, June 16, Joe’s art will grace the next one-shot in the Joker’s Asylum series, focusing on Joker’s moll, the fan-favorite Harley Quinn

Joe will be in the shop from 7 to 9 p.m. signing, and — if you’re lucky — sketching!

MA – All-Ages Signing

Shelli Paroline and Stephanie Yue will be in-shop for an all-ages signing on Saturday, June 5!

Shelli will be signing copies of Muppet Snow White, published by BOOM Studios, which she draws, as well as other Muppet books where she has contributed covers. The four-issue limited series retells the Snow White story with the familiar Muppet characters and personality.

Shelli is one of the leading forces behind the Boston Comics Roundtable and has published several pieces in their various anthologies.

Artist Stephanie Yue will be signing the new childrens’ book Guinea PI-G, Pet Store Private Eye, which she created with author Colleen Venable.

The publisher describes the book thusly: There’s a sandwich thief in Mr. Venezi’s pet shop, and everyone is a suspect, from the chinchillas to the goldfish. Never fear! The world’s fluffiest detective on the case: Sasspants, PI(G). By day, Sasspants is your average book-loving, gizmo-inventing guinea pig. By night she solves pet shop mysteries with the help of her sidekick, Hamisher the hamster. Our furry little heroes will stop at nothing to find the sandwich thief! This is the first book in the Guinea PIG, Pet Shop Private Eye series.

MA – The Devil & Sarah Palin Signing

sarahpalindevillg

Richard Tenorio signs on Nov 15th

Sarah Palin will never go away. There’s simply something too intriguing and terrible about the former Alaska governor to keep people away. It’s very much like watching a car crash. And Richard Tenorio, a Malden-born political cartoonist, is rubbernecking. His new comic book, The Devil and Sarah Palin, was a huge hit at last month’s Boston Comic Con, and now it’s flying off the shelves.

“I have her glasses, and her hairdo I always draw with a ponytail,” he says. “I don’t know why she has a ponytail, she just always has a touch of informality about her. … It took some time to develop an image of her that I was comfortable with.”

In his one-off comic, he first has Lucifer make a Faustian deal with a voter, encouraging them to vote for Palin. Once Palin fails, however, the tables have turned and Lucifer is then in Palin’s ear. “He tries to counsel her,” says Tenorio, “to focus on her state-of-the-state address and the Alaskan pipeline. I think the book touches on some of the things the mainstream media misses, like all the biblical imagery she uses.”

Like much of his other cartoons, the Columbia School of Journalism graduate stays away from outright characterization, letting the plot of this deal with the devil make the most of the message. Though his Palin is simple, it’s not without a keen resemblance. “It just came from all the times I’ve looked at her,” he says. Which, like all of us, is one time too many.
