SF – Eyvind Earle’s Influence

Join Michael Giaimo, art director of Oscar®-winning Frozen (2013) and Pocahontas (1995), at the Walt Disney Family Museum on Saturday, November 4th at 4:00 PM as he discusses the many ways in which Eyvind Earle’s work inspired his own art and the memorable design on the classic Disney films that he’s worked on.

In 1951, Eyvind Earle began working at The Walt Disney Studios, and his distinctive style quickly caught the attention of Walt Disney. Soon after Earle began working for Walt, he was chosen to create the entire look of Sleeping Beauty (1959). However, his influence on Disney films didn’t stop there.

Michael Giaimo is a production designer at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Giaimo spearheaded the visual components of the 2013 Academy Award®-winning feature film, Frozen, for which he won an Annie Award from ASIFA-Hollywood for production design in an animated feature production. Aspiring to work in animation since age 6, Giaimo first joined Disney in 1978 after studying at CalArts in the character animation program alongside John Lasseter. Giaimo left Disney in 1986 and returned to the Studios in 1992, serving as art director on the Oscar®-winning feature film Pocahontas, which opened in 1995. Giaimo was awarded an Annie Award by ASIFA-Hollywood for Best Production Design in an Animated Feature Film for his work on Pocahontas that year. After pursuing outside projects from 2001 to 2009, Giaimo returned to Disney and soon began work on Frozen. Giaimo has continued his work with the Frozen filmmaking team, as art director on the 2015 short film Frozen Fever and as production designer on the upcoming holiday featurette, Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.
