NYC – House of Secrets Signing

hos0313

Chris Columbus and Ned Vizzini sign at Barnes & Noble on Wednesday April 24, 2013 at 7:00 PM!

About the book:
From legendary Hollywood director Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) and bestselling author Ned Vizzini (It’s Kind of a Funny Story) comes this first book in an epic new fantasy series.

Brendan, Eleanor, and Cordelia Walker once had everything: two loving parents, a beautiful house in San Francisco, and all the portable electronic devices they could want. But everything changed when Dr. Walker lost his job in the wake of a mysterious incident. Now in dire straits, the family must relocate to an old Victorian house that used to be the home of occult novelist Denver Kristoff—a house that feels simultaneously creepy and too good to be true.

By the time the Walkers realize that one of their neighbors has sinister plans for them, they’re banished to a primeval forest way off the grid. Their parents? Gone. Their friends? A world away. And they aren’t alone. Bloodthirsty medieval warriors patrol the woods around them, supernatural pirates roam the neighboring seas, and a power-hungry queen rules the land. To survive, the siblings will have to be braver than they ever thought possible—and fight against their darkest impulses. The key may lie in their own connection to the secret Kristoff legacy. But as they unravel that legacy, they’ll discover it’s not just their family that’s in danger… it’s the entire world.

Quidditch World Cup 2011

Press Release:

Boston, MA – On November 12 and 13, 2011 the International Quidditch Association (IQA) will host the 2011 Quidditch World Cup (QWC) at which 95 college quidditch teams will descend on New York City to compete in a live action-packed sporting event, best described as “a cross between the Super Bowl and a medieval festival.” The two days will feature 450 games with live music, entertainers, food and drink vendors, and many other exciting events.

“The Quidditch World Cup is one of the best events of the year in the Harry Potter fan community and the IQA has prepared one of the most impressive events possible,” said HPA Executive Director Andrew Slack. “We are so excited as an organization to be partnering with the IQA.”

The Harry Potter Alliance (HPA) will host a booth at the QWC where we will have information about the HPA, merchandise for sale, and information about an exciting announcement relating to our next campaign.

The IQA, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and governing the real-life sport of quidditch. The IQA utilizes the game to inspire youth and young adults to lead more physically active, socially engaged lives.

“Muggle”, or non-magical, quidditch is a real and popular game, adapted by college students in 2005 from JK Rowling’s Harry Potter novels and is now played at over 500 schools worldwide. With regular tournaments held all over the US and Canada on a weekly basis, and new events being organized in locations as far away as Australia, quidditch is one of the fastest growing sports in the world.

In the largest display of real-life quidditch ever, over 2,000 college athletes will seek to best each other on eleven fields of continuous play. One-hundred teams representing 27 US states and 5 nations will compete, arriving from schools as close as NYU, and as far away as the University of Vassa in Finland.

Between and during the games, spectators will experience a diverse array of entertainers and performances, including live music from over a dozen bands culminating in a headline concert Saturday night. There will be food and drink from local vendors, and matches will be announced by trained improvisational comedians. Live animals, including owls, may make an appearance.

The event is family-friendly and open to the public. Tickets start at $4.99 and are available online or at the event. For more information and to order tickets, please visit http://www.internationalquidditch.org/worldcup/.

UK – Size Matters Not Signing

Warwick Davis signs his fantastic biography Size Matters Not at the Forbidden Planet Megastore, 179 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8JR, on Thursday 15th April 6 – 7pm

You may not recognise Warwick Davis’ name but you’ve seen him at work – he’s helped put more bums on cinema seats than Will Smith. Who else has helped destroy a Death Star? Defeated an evil sorceress? Taught magic to Harry Potter? Become a Jedi Master? Hitchhiked across the galaxy in search of the answer to the Ultimate Question? Or embarked on psychotic killing sprees as a gold-obsessed leprechaun? You’ll know Warwick Davis because, at three-foot-six, he’s ever so slightly below average height.

George Lucas, Carrie Fisher, Val Kilmer, Ron Howard and Ricky Gervais (amongst others) have all chipped in to this astounding book Size Matters Not. Warwick A. Davis made his screen debut as Wicket the Ewok in Return of the Jedi. His extremely rare condition has led to a career as the world’s leading little actor. He also runs Willow Management, an agency representing actors below five feet and above seven, and lives in Peterborough with his wife, Sam and their two children, Annabel and Harrison. This is an extraordinary story.

Forbidden Planet is the largest store of its kind in the world. Some of the biggest names in Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Comics and Cult Entertainment have come to our London Megastore for signing events, including: Sam Raimi, Guillermo del Toro, Terry Gilliam, Christopher Lee, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, William Gibson, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett and Stephen King.

Warner Bros. Unveils SDCC Bags

Warner Bros. Unveils Exclusive, Double-Sided Comic-Con Bag For “Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince” and Combo For TV Series “Human Target” and “The Vampire Diaries”

If it’s Comic-Con, it must mean one thing: Warner Bros. Entertainment’s exclusive, signature oversize canvas bags – called the Con’s “ubiquitous accessory” by Entertainment Weekly – are back.

Burbank, CA – July 22, 2009 — If it’s Comic-Con, it must mean one thing: Warner Bros. Entertainment’s exclusive, signature oversize canvas bags – called the Con’s “ubiquitous accessory” by Entertainment Weekly – are back. In advance of Comic-Con International: San Diego 2009, the Studio is today unveiling artwork for two of the six limited-edition bags it will roll out at this year’s event:

* Two-sided creation for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”

* Combo for the highly anticipated upcoming television series “Human Target” and “The Vampire Diaries”

* For more information about the Studio’s Comic-Con activities, follow us on Twitter @TheWBdotcom or log on to www.TheWB.com/ComicCon

Created annually since 2006 by the Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Marketing unit specifically for Comic-Con, the bags are distributed – on a first-come, first-served basis – exclusively at the Studio’s two-story nearly 3,000-square foot booth (#4329) on the convention floor. More than 50,000 total bags will be circulated by the Studio throughout the five days of Comic-Con, including Preview Night.

The highly sought-after totes provide devoted fans with a handy carrying case for all the merchandise they take away from the Con and serve as 24″x29″ mobile billboards for a selection of the Studio’s live-action and animated television series, theatrical motion pictures and home entertainment releases.

The two-sided “Harry Potter” bag features images of Harry (played by Daniel Radcliffe) and Professor Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) on one side, with Harry’s longtime adversary, Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), and Professor Severus Snape (Alan Rickman) on the other.

The combo TV bag revealed today boasts “Human Target” stars Mark Valley (“Fringe”), Chi McBride (“Pushing Daisies”) and Jackie Earle Haley (“Watchmen,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street”) on one side, with “The Vampire Diaries” stars Nina Dobrev (“Degrassi: The Next Generation”), Paul Wesley (“Killer Movie) and Ian Somerhalder (“Lost”) in silhouette around a bloody heart on the other. “Love Sucks” indeed.
