Zachary Levi and David Coleman’s uber brand The Nerd Machine is bringing fan favorite NERD HQ back to the New Children’s Museum. This marks the sixth year for NERD HQ to set up camp in downtown San Diego for the annual SDCC weekend. NERD HQ brings the nerd community a four-day haven to connect, recharge and enhance their Con experience. This year’s guests can look forward to a return of the preeminent “Conversations for a Cause” panel series, as well as over 160 hands-on gaming experiences on both PC and console brought to you by AMD and Xbox, and a VR experience brought to you by Oculus.

NERD HQ is excited to announce a re-teaming with gaming partner AMD and this year’s new co-headline sponsor, Xbox. This new sponsorship will bring combined 13 playable titles which includes Battlefield 1 courtesy of EA and DICE, playable on 64 PC’s powered by AMD, and Xbox One hands-on gameplay experiences including Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2, Titanfall 2, Dead Rising 4, ReCore, and Minecraft: Xbox One Edition and many more. Fans will also get to experience several new PC games from The Square Enix Collective including The Turing Test & Black the Fall.

NERD HQ will see the expansion of the fan experience with a new VR gaming lounge, in partnership with Oculus and AMD. Located on the upper level, players can get hands on with a range of VR experiences all playable with the new Oculus Rift.
The fan favorite philanthropic panel series ‘Conversations for a Cause’ will once again be positioned on the lower level in a dedicated enhanced auditorium. The annual panel series has given fans unique opportunities to have sometimes surprising, intimate experiences with their favorite celebrities. Previous panels have played host to some of the biggest names in pop-culture like Joss Whedon, William Shatner, Tom Hiddleston, Tatiana Maslany, Nathan Fillion, Sophie Turner, Andrew Lincoln, Jeff Bridges, Seth Green, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Guillermo Del Toro, Vin Diesel, Kellan Lutz, Dylan O’Brien and Norman Reedus, just to name a few. Tickets for panels are $22, and all proceeds raised through ticket sales go directly to non-profit Operation Smile whose mission is to help improve the health and lives of children across the world. For 2016, all of the panels will be streamed live on multiple platforms, including Facebook, IGN, AMD & the Nerd Machine YouTube Channel, NerdMachineTV.

The NERD HQ APP and website have undergone a complete rebuild. Guests will be able to pre-register for Nerd HQ, secure gameplay sessions, and link to Brown Paper Tickets to purchase seats for “Conversations for a Cause’ panels. Fans who cannot make the event can watch the entire lineup though an integrated NERD HQ YouTube channel. NERD HQ welcomes newest sponsor Johnson & Johnson in 2016. The merging of the company’s popular‘Donate a Photo” app and NERD HQ’s popular “Smiles for Smiles” campaign, will offer fans a new opportunity to raise funds for Operation Smile. Whether it’s through the APP or onsite at NERD HQ for every photo uploaded, Johnson & Johnson donates $1 to Operation Smile*.

Nerd HQ is also partnering with Live.me, the live broadcasting app that has found it’s home in the top 10 app list after only launching in April of this year. It allows fans to share virtual gifts to broadcasters, which can be redeemed for cash. The app will give fans exclusive access to celebrity interviews from the “Conversations for a Cause” green room, along with an insider’s look at all the action during Nerd HQ. In an effort to raise more awareness and support for Operation Smile, all proceeds raised on the official Nerd HQ Live.me channel from July 21-24 will go directly to the organization. Hallmark debuts its new pop-up shop experience, PopMinded, at Nerd HQ. Hallmark Reveals Plans, Exclusive Keepsake Ornaments for Comic-Con 2014

Booth will feature artist signings, product previews and giveaways

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (July 17, 2014) — Hallmark once again will showcase its creative products at Comic-Con International when it opens next week in San Diego.

This is the seventh year for Hallmark to exhibit at the largest comic book and popular arts convention in the world. Hallmark will provide more than 130,000 attendees access to event-exclusive Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments and a pair of itty bittys® plush collectibles. Other perks include visits with a Keepsake Ornament artist and sneak peeks of Hallmark products to be released in 2015.

Comic-Con Exclusives

During the convention, held July 24-27, 2014, Hallmark will sell limited quantities of the following Keepsake Ornaments:

  • Wampa™ – This Keepsake Ornament created especially for event sales depicts the ferocious horned predator that attacked Luke Skywalker on the ice planet Hoth as seen in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back™. In place of actual wampa fur, the ornament is covered in velvety flocking. Sales limited to 200 pieces per day as part of a total production run of 1,800 ($35 each).

  • Arkham’s Avenger – Inspired by the 2011 video game Batman: Arkham City, Batman crouches on a rooftop gargoyle in this Keepsake Ornament created as an event exclusive. Sales limited to 175 pieces per day as part of a total production run of 1,575 ($35 each).

  • War Machine™ – As featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this event exclusive is a repainted variant of last year’s Iron Patriot™ Keepsake Ornament. Sales limited to 150 pieces per day as part of a total production run of 1,350 ($25 each).

Since December 2012, iconic characters of film, comics and television have appeared as sweetly and uniquely styled plush itty bittys® exclusively in Hallmark Gold Crown® stores. In celebration of this fall’s addition of Star Wars™ characters to the itty bittys line, Hallmark is offering a two-pack of itty bittys styled after a Tusken Raider™ and a Bantha™ as seen inStar Wars: A New Hope™. Sales limited to 300 pieces per day as part of a total production run of 2,700 ($20 per pair).

Each of these event exclusives also will be available to attendees at New York Comic Con, Oct. 9-12, 2014.

Activities at the Hallmark Booth

“We’re very happy to be returning to Comic-Con this year to trade stories and share memories with our passionate fans,” said Beth Dorr, associate merchandise manager for Keepsake Ornaments. “We look forward to giving sneak peeks at our new Hallmark products in a creatively designed exhibit space. We’ll also have all the fun reasons for stopping by our space that Comic-Con goers have come to expect from us.”

Visitors to Hallmark’s booth in the Lucasfilm Pavilion will walk into a stylized version of the desert planet Tatooine, where they will see familiar characters, including some in Lucasfilm-owned costumes that provide a perfect photo opportunity. There will be additional opportunities for photos with costumed members of the 501st Legion daily throughout the convention.

Visitors also can collect a series of five buttons featuring Keepsake Ornaments that will be handed out for free while quantities last. The button series features Star Wars designs with a limited quantity of one design given away each day of the event.

Visitors to Hallmark’s booth will be able to meet and receive free autographs from Keepsake Ornament Artist Jake Angell, who will sign the War Machine™ ornament he sculpted.

Inside Hallmark’s booth, visitors will be treated to up-close looks at Hallmark products including many of the new 2014 Keepsake Ornaments such as Godzilla, the flying time machine of Back to the Future Part II and Cornelius of Planet of the Apes, while getting an early preview of what’s ahead for 2015.

An official schedule of all Hallmark fan activities at Comic-Con International will be available at the Hallmark booth in the Lucasfilm Pavilion, located at Booth 2913-H in the Exhibit Hall.

Hallmark Introduces 2013 Event-Exclusive Keepsake Ornaments

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 27, 2013) — Hallmark continues its participation at the nation’s largest pop culture fan conventions with four Keepsake Ornaments exclusively developed for 2013 events.

Three ornament designs will be sold in limited quantities at Comic-Con International, to be held July 18-21 in San Diego, Calif., and at New York Comic Con, set for October 10-13 in New York City:

  • Wrath of the Rancor™ – Created especially for event sales, this ornament captures Luke Skywalker’s struggle with the savage creature dwelling below Jabba the Hutt’s palace as seen in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi™.
  • U.S.S. Kelvin™ – As featured in the 2009 Star Trek movie, this Federation starship exclusive is a “battle-scarred” variant of the same Keepsake Ornament available starting in July in Hallmark Gold Crown® stores.
  • Man of Steel – Inspired by this summer’s big-screen adventure of the same name, Superman is the subject of this event-exclusive Keepsake Ornament. Details and images of this ornament will be announced later this year.

At the D23 Expo 2013, slated for Aug. 9-11 in Anaheim, Calif., Hallmark will offer limited quantities of one design:

  • Cinderella’s Castle – Featuring battery-operated light and sound, this exclusive Keepsake Ornament will boast a different look from the ornament available starting in July in Hallmark Gold Crown stores.

More information about Hallmark’s plans for these fan events will be announced closer to the respective dates.

Hallmark Announces Return to New York Comic Con

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct.5, 2012) – Hallmark announces its return to New York Comic Con International at the Javits Center (Oct. 11-14), the East Coast’s biggest popular culture convention. Attendees will have access to Comic Con-exclusive Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments, visits with a Keepsake Ornament artist and receive a sneak peek of products to be released in 2013.

During the convention, Hallmark will sell limited quantities of the following Keepsake Ornaments:

  • 4-LOM and Zuckuss: This two-pack features the criminal droid 4-LOM and Gand tracking expert Zuckuss from “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes BackTM.” Created exclusively for event sales, 4-LOM and Zuckuss are the last bounty hunters depicted in the film to become Keepsake Ornaments. Limited run of 800 sets ($35 per set).

  • A Human Hero: This original sculpture is inspired by the 1986 comic-book masterpiece “The Dark Knight Returns.” This gritty adventure helped to establish the more realistic and complex portrayal of the Dark Knight in modern media. Limited run of 700 Keepsake Ornaments ($25 each).

Hallmark Announces First New York Comic Con Presence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Aug. 31, 2011) — Hallmark announces its first visit to New York Comic Con International at the Javits Center (Oct. 13-16), the East Coast’s biggest popular culture convention. Attendees will have access to Comic Con-exclusive Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments and receive a sneak peek of product for 2012.

During the convention, Hallmark will sell limited quantities of the following Keepsake Ornaments:

  • U.S.S. Defiant: The ill-fated U.S.S. Defiant is from the third-season episode “The Tholian Web” and celebrates the 45th anniversary of the original “Star Trek” television series. Based on a 2006 Keepsake Ornament of the U.S.S. Enterprise, it features luminescent paint that allows the ornament to glow green in the dark as seen in the fan-favorite episode.

  • Droids R2-Q5 and R2-A3: Fans of the iconic film series will recall the black-bodied R2-Q5 being assigned to the second Death Star as the red-trimmed R2-A3 flew along with X-wing starfighter pilot Wedge Antilles. The special-edition barrel-shaped Droids will be sold as a set.

This will mark the first year that Hallmark will create convention exclusive Keepsake Ornaments for New York Comic Con. Hallmark has produced exclusive Keepsake Ornaments in recent years for events including Comic Con International, Star Wars Celebration V, the National Barbie® Doll Collectors Convention and Disney’s D23 Expo.
