About Failure Is an Option:
You may not recognize his face, but you’ve almost certainly heard his voice. H. Jon Benjamin, the voice behind some of today’s most popular and iconic animated characters, including the titular characters in hit TV series Archer and Bob’s Burgers , has found a level of success that many would envy. But Jon isn’t interested in telling the world about his successes. Instead, he would like to remind us all that failure is also an option. In FAILURE IS AN OPTION: An Attempted Memoir (on sale May 1, 2018), Jon invites readers to embrace their own missteps and the freedom that comes along with letting go of the constant grind towards success. With stories, examples of artistic and literary failings , and a powerful “can’t-do” attitude, this is the book the world doesn’t need right now but will get regardless.

MA – H. Jon Benjamin Signing

Actor H. Jon Benjamin appears at the Coolidge Corner Theatre on Thursday May 3, 2018 at 6:00 PM to present and sign his new book Failure is an Option. HJB will be joined in conversation by fellow comedian and Bob’s Burgers voice actor Eugene Mirman. Books sold by Brookline Booksmith.  Tickets available at the link!

Press Release:

H. Jon Benjamin—the lead voice behind Archer and Bob’s Burgers—helps us all feel a little better about our own failures by sharing his own in a hilarious memoir-ish chronicle of failure.

Most people would consider H. Jon Benjamin a comedy show business success. But he’d like to remind everyone that as great as success can be, failure is also an option. And maybe the best option. In this book, he tells stories from his own life, from his early days (“wherein I’m unable to deliver a sizzling fajita”) to his romantic life (“how I failed to quantify a threesome”) to family (“wherein a trip to P.F. Chang’s fractures a family”) to career (“how I failed at launching a kid’s show”).

As Jon himself says, breaking down one’s natural ability to succeed is not an easy task, but also not an insurmountable one. Society as we know it is, sadly, failure averse. But more acceptance of failure, as Jon sees it, will go a long way to making this world a different place…a kinder, gentler place, where gardens are overgrown and most people stay home with their pets. A vision of failure, but also a vision of freedom.

With stories, examples of artistic and literary failure, and a powerful can’t-do attitude, Failure Is an Option: An Attempted Memoir is the book the world doesn’t need right now but will get regardless.

  • HJB’s book signing will take place at Brookline Booksmith (across the street from the theatre) immediately following the show.
  • HJB is happy to sign and personalize all copies of his memoir FAILURE IS AN OPTION, but he will not sign other merchandise or memorabilia.
  • Due to time constraints, HJB will not take posed photos or selfies with fans.

NYC – Failure is an Option Launch Party

Actor H. Jon Benjamin appears at the Strand Book Store on Tuesday May 1, 2018 at 7:00 PM to sign his new book Failure is an Option.

H. Jon Benjamin is widely considered a comedy show success, but he’d like to remind everyone that as great as success can be, failure is also an option. And maybe the best option.

Breaking down one’s natural ability to succeed is not an easy task, but also not an impossible one. Society as we know it is, unfortunately, opposes failure. If failure became more accepted it would make the world a different place, a kinder, gentler place, where gardens are overgrown and most people stay home with their pets. A vision of failure, but also a vision of freedom.

With stories, examples of artistic and literary failure, and a powerful can’t-do attitude, Failure Is an Option is the book the world doesn’t need right now but will get regardless.
