Firefly’s Jewel Staite at Great Philadelphia Comic Con

Jewel Staite (Firefly/Serenity’s Kaylee Frye) is coming to The Great Philadelphia Comic Con on Saturday April 8th and Sunday April 9, 2017!

Jewel Staite starred as ‘Raquel’ in the CW series “The L.A. Complex”, which premiered in the Spring of 2012. Prior to that, she was seen starring in the Hallmark Channel telefilm “Call Me Mrs. Miracle” opposite Doris Roberts. This premiere was the highest rated Hallmark Channel telecast of the year. Prior to that, Jewel was seen as ‘Dr. Keller’ in the SyFy Channel hit series “Stargate: Atlantis”. Her stellar work has earned her rave reviews, as well as recognition from The Gemini Awards (Canada’s prestigious equivalent of our Emmy) with a nomination for ‘Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role’ in 2008. This was followed up with a nomination from the Leo Awards in 2009 for ‘Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series’.

At the age of six, Jewel began studying at the Vancouver Youth Theatre where she trained several days a week for several years. This hard work paid off when she booked the lead role in the Disney Channel series “Flash Forward” with Ben Foster. Her performance earned her a nomination from The Gemini Awards for ‘Best Performance in a Children’s or Youth Program or Series’, as well as a nomination for the Canadian Television Film and Showcase Award.

Jewel made her 2005 feature film debut in Universal Pictures “Serenity”, Joss Whedon’s adaptation of the FOX science fiction television series “Firefly,” of which Jewel was a series regular. Jewel played the ship’s mechanic ‘Kaylee’, a sweet, happy and sensual farm girl who loves life and is a genius at fixing anything.

Additionally, Jewel has several TV series under her belt including Fox Family’s “Higher Ground” with Hayden Christensen, a recurring role on the highly praised FOX series “Wonderfalls,” NBC’s “Just Deal” and Nickelodeon’s “Space Cases.” Her MOW credits are just as impressive, with starring roles opposite James Brolin and Natasha Henstridge in Lifetime’s “Widow on the Hill”, Showtime’s “Damaged Care” opposite Laura Dern, as well as SyFy’s “Mothman” and “Doomsday Prophecy.” Some guest appearances include the CW’s “Supernatural”, her memorable role in the Showtime pilot “Huff “ with Hank Azaria and Oliver Platt, Syfy’s “Warehouse 13”, as well as Showtime’s “Dead Like Me” opposite Ellen Muth and Rebecca Gayheart, and FOX’s “The X-Files” opposite David Duchovny.

Deadpool’s Brianna Hildebrand at Great Philadelphia Comic Con

Brianna Hildebrand (Deadpool’s Negasonic Teenage Warhead) is coming to The Great Philadelphia Comic Con on Saturday April 8th and Sunday April 9, 2017!

Brianna Hildebrand made her acting career debut from the web series Annie Undocumented, where she was featured in the role of Jen in 2014. The web series was created by Brian Yang, Elaine Low, and Daniel Hsia and the series was named the best web series at 2014 New York TV Festival. Later in 2015, Brianna Hildebrand made her appearance in the movie Prism, where she played the character of Julia. Her one of the most famous role in the movie includes the character of Sasha in the American romantic drama film First Girl I Loved.

Brianna Hildebrand’s most successful movie came on 2016 the movie was entitled Deadpool, the movie based on a black comedy superhero. For her acting in the movie, she was nominated for the Teen Choice Awards 2016. Hildebrand is currently busy in the shooting of her upcoming projects, First Girl I Loved (2016) and Tragedy Girls (2017). She has also been announced for an upcoming sequel project, but we will let you guess what that is.

Alan Tudyk Joins Great Philadelphia Comic Con 2017

The Great Philadelphia Comic Con adds Alan Tudyk to their guest roster for the convention on Saturday April 8th and Sunday April 9, 2017.

Tudyk’s credits cross film, TV, voice acting, and stage work. He is the creator and star of the webseries Con Man for which he also co-wrote the accompanying comic book Spectrum. In the early 2000s, he starred in the short-lived, though passionately loved, TV show Firefly. Created by Joss Whedon, the show combined elements of sci-fi in space with cowboys in the Old West. Most recently he played the scene stealing security droid K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He also voices characters in several Disney animated films, including Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, and Moana.

Tudyk currently stars as Van Wayne, head of Wayne Security, in NBC’s new workplace comedy “Powerless,” opposite Vanessa Hudgens. “Powerless” is the first comedy series set in the universe of DC Comics, where the story follows the reality of working life for a normal, powerless person in a world of superheroes and villains

GEORGE TAKEI BEAMS IN TO THE GREAT PHILADELPHIA COMIC CON: STAR TREK REUNION PLANNED FOR APRIL 3-5th SHOW!

George Takei, known internationally to fans as Star Trek helmsman Hikaru Sulu and as a Pop Cultural Icon; joins his fellow former crewmembers Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig in making a rare group appearance in the Philadelphia area at the inaugural Great Philadelphia Comic Con.

George Takei is a social media sovereign and civil rights advocate on his first trip to the Philadelphia area in years. Best known as Hikaru Sulu from the original Star Trek television series and later movies of the same franchise has more than 8 million Facebook followers and growing. He is not only the voice of the Howard Stern show, but also an equality rights movement leader as he continues to fight for equal rights for all in America.

Nichelle Nichols, a real-life space advocate. Known to fans as Lt. Uhura in the original Star Trek series, has lead an extraordinary life. As Uhura, Nichelle became a role model for African-American women and helped pave the way towards breaking down racial barriers. So important was this role, that no less a person than Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr himself encouraged her to stay on the show when she considered leaving for a career on the stage.

Walter Koenig, is known as Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series and later Alfred Bester on the series Babylon 5. Rumor has it that his resemblance to musician Davy Jones (of Monkees fame) guaranteed him the role with Star Trek producers hoping his good looks would appeal to younger audience and attract more viewers.

Other special events occurring at the show include the largest Mighty Morphin’ Power Ranger actor reunion in the Northeastern United States. Popular comic book artists such as the Legendary Jim Steranko, Mark Morales, JK Woodward, Mark McKenna and Ande Parks to name a few will also be in attendance. In addition, multiple actors from popular shows such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Arrow, The Walking Dead, Agents of Shield, and more to be announced!

Making a fun debut will be an exclusive trading card set, to be collected during the show. The cards will be available at various tables throughout the showroom, highlighting guests appearing at the show from Artists to Celebrities, and fans will be encouraged to collect the set throughout the weekend.  As always we encourage families to bring their children, who have free admission (12 and under) and all participants in the Children’s Cosplay event are guaranteed a prize!

IT’S MORPHIN’ TIME AT THE GREAT PHILADELPHIA COMIC CON: POWER RANGER REUNION PLANNED FOR APRIL 3-5TH SHOW!

Austin St. John, first leader of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers; Walter Jones, the first Black Ranger; David Yost, the First Blue Ranger, David Fielding, aka Zordon – founder of the Rangers, Kerrigan Mahan and Barbara Goodson – villains Gordon and Rita Repulsa respectively, will be making their first group show appearance in Pennsylvania at the inaugural Great Philadelphia Comic Con.

JANUARY 13,2015, DELAWARE VALLEY, PA- The Great Philadelphia Comic Con (GPCC) arrives on April 3-5th, 2015. The GPCC is the largest independent comic & pop culture convention in eastern Pennsylvania and is being hosted by the same organization which has run The Great Allentown Comic Con for the past 5 years to much fan enjoyment.

The show welcomes Austin St. John (Jason Lee Scott on the popular Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series). He starred in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for 79 episodes from 1993-94, ending with the episode “Opposites Attract” (though Jason continued to be featured via body doubles, voice doubles, and stock footage before being written off in “The Power Transfer”). However, since that time he has spent his time as an EMT both in Afghanistan and in Washington, DC. After a multi year absence from the convention circuit Austin is f1nally attending conventions and meeting with Power Rangers fans; He has literally gone from TV superhero to real world hero.

Fellow Power Ranger alumni joining him will include:

Walter Jones (Zack Taylor on the popular Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series) who starred in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for 82 episodes from 1993-94,ending with the episode “Zedd’s Monster Mash”. Since that time he has had success as a world champion salsa dancer,and represented the United States in the 1992 Olympic Closing Ceremonies.

David Yost (Billy Cranston on the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series) who completed over 200 episodes of the series and starred in the feature film Power Rangers: the Movie will be joining as well.

Karan Ashley (Aisha Campbell, the second Yellow Ranger in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series) replacing the late ThuyTrang (Trini Kwan). Staying on for two years, Ashley left the show in 1996.

David J. Fielding (Zordon,the founding creator in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series) A writer and an actor, he originated the role of Zordon on the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers television series, with his pre-f1lmed scenes being used for some years.

Barbara Goodson (Rita Repulsa,the primary villainess in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series and films) In addition to her iconic role as the main villain Barbara is best known mostly for her versatility in voicing original and dubbed cartoons, with over 100 anime or cartoon characters to her credit.

Kerrigan Mahan (Goldar, the primary henchman under the command of Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series) His most famous and sustaining role to date was the ever popular and fearsome, original evil space alien, Goldar, however he was also one of the pioneers of the resurgence of anime in the mid-80s,voicing numerous key roles in popular films and shows at the time.

Other talents highly regarded in the Pop Culture realm making an appearance include popular comic book artists such as Mark Morales, JK Woodward, Mark McKenna and Ande Parks to name a few. In addition, multiple actors from popular shows such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer,Angel, Arrow,The Walking Dead, Agents of Shield,Star Trek, and more to be announced!
