UK – Thought Bubble 2017 Signing

James Stokoe and Marley Zarcone will be signing at Gosh Comics on Friday, September 22nd from 6:00 – 7:00 PM!

James Stokoe is the acclaimed writer and artist behind titles such as Wonton Soup, Orc Stain, Godzilla Half Century War and Aliens Dead Orbit. With a kinetic, ultra-detailed style that meshes the underground sensibilities of Vaughn Bodē with the propulsive action of Katsuhiro Otomo, any new work from him is always sure to get our little hearts a-racing!

Marley Zarcone has made regular appearances since 2010 on DC & Vertigo titles such as Madame Xanadu, Fairest, House of Mystery and Justice League, but it was her work on the Tim Seeley-written book Effigy that really brought her to our attention. So we were very happy to see her attached to the Young Animal launch of Shade the Changing Girl, with writer Cecil Castellucci, where her clean, dynamic work manages to effortlessly switch from grounded high school drama to surreal mad-scapes.

UK – Winnebago Graveyard #1 Signing

Press Release:

Alison Sampson appears at Gosh Comics for a signing on Saturday June 24th, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM to celebrate the release of Winnebago Graveyard #1 from Image Comics!

Alison first came onto a lot of people’s radars with her 2014 collaboration with Nathan Edmondson, Genesis (of which we currently have some signed copies available in-store and online). Her mix of detail and innovative layouts (both a tip of the hat to her work as an architect) impressed a great deal, so – while we’ve loved her appearances here and there on short stories and single issues – we’ve been waiting with some excitement for her next major project.

Now, working with legendary horror comics writer Steve Niles, it’s here! Winnebago Graveyard is a slice of satanist suspense, as a vacationing family stumbles into a town of satanists with sacrifice on their mind. A gory, 70s horror-inspired story unfolds as the family peels back the layers of secret and conspiracy that envelop the town. Each issue of the 4 issue mini series also includes back matter essays looking behind the scenes on the book, and essays on occult topics illustrated by a brilliant line-up of artists.

UK – Erik the Red: King of Winter Signing

Danish author Søren Mosdal appears at Gosh! Comics to sign copies of his Centrala title Erik the Red: King of Winter on Monday May 15th from 6:00 – 7:00 PM.

Erik the Red tells the story of Erik Torvaldsson, who in 982 left his home of Iceland (thanks to a feud with his neighbour) and established a colony in a land mass he dubbed Greenland (apparently to attract settlers). He ruled there as its “Paramount Chieftain” until his death in 1003. Mosdal’s style adds immensely to the take, reminiscent of the likes of Joann Sfar, Christophe Blain, and Blutch.
