UK – Porcelain: Ivory Tower Signing

Benjamin Read and Chris Wildgoose will be joining us for a signing on Thursday the 30th of November, 6:00 – 7:00 pm!

Porcelain: Ivory Tower, number three in the much loved series (out right now from Improper Books!), continues to explore the themes of consciousness, self-determination and the corruption of power in a beautifully illustrated and tightly plotted journey through a fully realised and troubled world. Mixing gothic horror, sci-fi, a fairy tale sensibility and an epic sense of scale we’re certain the Porcelain series is a future classic of young adult fiction so we’re thrilled to have the creators with us!

UK – A Talk with Jillian Tamaki

Cartoonist Jillian Tamaki appears in conversation with internationally renowned comics historian Paul Gravett at Gosh Comics on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 7:30 PM.

Consistently one of the most challenging, exciting talents working today, Jillian’s artistic vision ranges from the smoothly rendered art of This One Summer (her award-winning collaboration with cousin Mariko), through to the sketchy experimentation bringing immediacy to her brilliant webcomic SuperMutant Magic Academy.

The full breadth of her talent is visible in her new collection from Drawn & Quarterly, Boundless. A compilation of short works from throughout her career, Boundless is a snapshot of a bold, talented, uncompromising artist. No wonder, then, that we jumped at the chance to do a limited bookplate edition of the book, not to mention enlisted Jillian as one of the artists to contribute to our range of 30th anniversary prints.

Jillian joins us thanks to the Lakes International Comics Arts Festival. The festival takes place in the Lakes District town of Kendall, hosting a dazzling array of talent, with guests this year including (along with Jillian) Sergio Aragones, Chip Zdarsky, Jason, Mariko Tamaki, Benoît Peeters, Stan Sakai & many, many more! More information on the festival, happening from October 13-15, can be found here.

We’re very pleased to have the one and only Paul Gravett joining us to interview Jillian. With an unparalleled knowledge of international comics history (keep an eye out for his new book Mangasia: the Definitive Guide to Asian Comics, coming from Thames and Hudson in October), Paul is something of a national treasure when it comes to the comics form. Historian, advocate, journalist, curator, publisher: there’s not much he hasn’t put his hand to when it comes to the medium. Which needless to say makes him an excellent interviewer!

UK – Geis: A Game Without Rules Launch Party

Alexis Deacon appears at Gosh Comics on Friday 29th September, 7-9pm, to celebrate the release of his new Nobrow graphic novel Geis: A Game Without Rules!

The middle chapter of Deacon’s dark fantasy trilogy, A Game Without Rules picks up where the first volume, A Matter of Life and Death, left off. The contenders for the throne undertake their second challenge, compelled by the sorcerous power of the geis. Meanwhile our heroine Io, still an unwilling participant, continues to puzzle over the mystery of the dark magic at the heart of the geis that threatens to consume them all.

A celebrated children’s illustrator, Alexis has, among other accolades, been shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal, and awarded Best Illustrated Book of the Year by the New York Times Book Review (both for his book Beegu).

UK – Thought Bubble 2017 Signing

James Stokoe and Marley Zarcone will be signing at Gosh Comics on Friday, September 22nd from 6:00 – 7:00 PM!

James Stokoe is the acclaimed writer and artist behind titles such as Wonton Soup, Orc Stain, Godzilla Half Century War and Aliens Dead Orbit. With a kinetic, ultra-detailed style that meshes the underground sensibilities of Vaughn Bodē with the propulsive action of Katsuhiro Otomo, any new work from him is always sure to get our little hearts a-racing!

Marley Zarcone has made regular appearances since 2010 on DC & Vertigo titles such as Madame Xanadu, Fairest, House of Mystery and Justice League, but it was her work on the Tim Seeley-written book Effigy that really brought her to our attention. So we were very happy to see her attached to the Young Animal launch of Shade the Changing Girl, with writer Cecil Castellucci, where her clean, dynamic work manages to effortlessly switch from grounded high school drama to surreal mad-scapes.
