NYC – Cartooning Master Class

Gahan Wilson teaches a cartooning class on Tuesday April 17, 2012 from 7:00 PM-9:00 PM at MoCCA!

$85 | $75 for MoCCA members

The legendary Gahan Wilson, famous for his bizarrely humorous work for Playboy and National Lampoon, shows and tells you how to make humorous cartoons (the non-animated kind) that reflect your own sensibilities and point-of-view. Using his own life and career as reference points, Gahan will give you pointers and advice about the art and business of cartooning that only this master of the medium can provide.

GAHAN WILSON is an award-winning cartoonist, author and illustrator. His “playfully grotesque” style is recognized the world over, having appeared in Playboy, The New Yorker, National Lampoon (the popular “Nuts” feature) and many other publications. Wilson has become a well-known figure in the world of science fiction and fantasy, and authored several children’s books. In 2009, Fantagraphics Books released Gahan Wilson: 50 Years of Playboy Cartoons, a slipcased, three-volume collection of Wilson’s cartoons and short stories for that magazine, and in 2011 released a collected edition of “Nuts.”

NYC – Nuts Signing

Gahan Wilson appears with Jesse Pearson on October 20 from 7:00PM – 8:00PM!

In this thematically and narratively linked series of one-page stories originally published in the National Lampoon’s “Funny Pages” section throughout the 1970s, the master of the macabre, Gahan Wilson, eschewed his usual ghouls, vampires and end-of-the-world scenarios for a wry, pointed look at growing up normal in the real, yet endlessly weird world.

“Nuts” was (partly) collected in a now long out-of-print volume back in 1979. This new hardcover edition reprints every single “Nuts” story from the Lampoon, rescuing over two dozen pages from oblivion.

Gahan Wilson is among the most popular, widely-read and beloved cartoonists in the history of the medium. His career spans more than 60 years and his work has been seen by millions in the pages of Playboy, The New Yorker, Punch, The National Lampoon and many other publications.

Jesse Pearson, former editor of VICE magazine and contributor to The Comics Journal will  moderate this discussion with Gahan Wilson.
