Fans of pop culture from across the Northeast and around the world will gather at the Connecticut Convention Center July 10th-13th, for the twelfth annual ConnectiCon in Hartford, CT. Founded in 2002, ConnectiCon is the largest massively multi-genre convention in New England.
This year’s event showcases over 7,000 hours of programming spread out over four days including; informative panels and hands-on workshops, special guest and celebrity appearances, trading card games, board games, and roleplaying games, including dozens of scheduled tournaments, console gaming and arcade machines. ConnectiCon is proud to introduce the Northeast League of Legends Tournament with over $6,000 in prizes!
ConnectiCon features main events such as, “Nerd Prom,” which is held Thursday evening at 8:30pm, tickets are available online. “ConnectiCon’s Singled Out!” Contestants, who pre-register online, will have a chance to win a date sponsored by ConnectiCon at a local participating restaurant. There’s also a ConnectiCon Masquerade Event held on Saturday, and the ConnectiCon “Cosplay Death match!” Plus many other fantastic events!
ConnectiCon will host nearly 90 special guests and celebrities including stars of stage and screen such as Noah Hathaway (The Neverending Story), Walter Jones (Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers), Alan Oppenheimer (Masters of the Universe), Janet Varney (Legend of Korra), Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect), Maurice LaMarche (Futurama) and Rob Paulsen (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Richard Horvitz and Rikki Simons of the cartoon Invader Zim and Internet celebrity, Doug Walker, AKA That Guy With The Glasses. Joining them are voice actors Chris Cason, Danielle McRae, Ellen McLain, and Lauren Landa, comic creator Farel Dalrymple, and dozens of other talented guests.

Delusional is a 232 page book of comics and drawings by cartoonist Farel Dalrymple. You might have seen them in various anthologies, or posted on the internets, but now they are collected into one beautiful tome published by Adhouse Books. Farel’s previous work includes Pop Gun War, Omega the Unknown, and the occasional Prophet.
Join Farel December 5th for an art exhibit and book release party at Floating World. Farel will also read a chapter from his eagerly anticipated forthcoming graphic novel, The Wrenchies.
Farel Dalrymple’s newest book is Delusional, a collection of comic short stories, illustrations, and sketches out now from from adhouse books. Farel is the artist that drew Omega the Unknown (Marvel Comics), for author Jonathan Lethem. His creator owned comic book, Pop Gun War (Dark Horse Comics) was a Xeric grant recipient and won a gold medal from The Society of Illustrators. Farel is a co-founder of the comic anthology, Meathaus and has worked on a range of illustration and cartooning projects for book publishers, magazines, studios, ad agencies, and comic book publishers such as Marvel, DC, and Image Comics. Farel just completed an original 300-page watercolored comic book story, The Wrenchies, out in 2014 from First Second Books. He is currently residing in Oregon where he working on his long neglected Pop Gun War follow up (pop gun war : chain letter) and drawing his Eisner nominated webcomic, IT WILL ALL HURT for studygroupcomics.

The new Prophet series by Brandon Graham has been one of the most exciting comics in the past year. The epic sci-fi series highlights Brandon’s cosmos-building concepts as well as artwork from a team of awesome artists including Simon Roy, Giannis Milonogiannis, Farel Dalrymple, and Brandon Graham himself. October 4th, we will display original artwork from the latest issue, Prophet #29 and celebrate the book release with artist, Farel Dalrymple and colorist, Joseph Bergin III.
Farel Dalrymple – Originally from Oklahoma “by way of California”, Dalrymple is one of the founders of the New York City based Meathaus Colllective. He attended New York’s School of Visual Arts as an Illustration major and was awarded the Society of Illustrators Gold Medal in 2002.
Best known for his work on Pop Gun War, Prophet, and Omega the Unknown, Farel also contributed to DC’s alt-anthology Bizarro World, Strange Tales, Marvel Comics’ new alt comics anthology, and Fantastic Four by Jonathan Hickman.
Farel’s new comic It Will All Hurt is updated regularly on the Study Group Comics website. He is currently working on a new original graphic novel called The Wrenchies, which will be published by First Second books.

The Portland Comic Book show will feature an inking demonstration by Gary Martin, author of The Art of Comic-Book Inking. Gary Martin’s two volumes of The Art of Comic-Book Inking have become the industry-standard manuals for aspiring inkers seeking to take their work to the next level or for working professionals looking to broaden their skills base. Dark Horse Comics recently published a new edition of the ground breaking book, combining the two textbooks into a single volume and with expanded new material, including three additional blue-lined art boards featuring pencil art by master comics illustrators Jack Kirby, John Buscema, and Gil Kane.
Anina Bennett, co-creator of Heartbreakers and Boilerplate, will moderate a panel discussion “How to Break Into Comics as a Writer” Writers on the panel discussion include Kurt Busiek (Astro City), Dan Berman (God Complex), Adam Gallardo (Gear School), Brandon Jerwa (Battlestar Galactica) and Jamie S. Rich (Spellcheckers).
Star Wars Imperial Costume Clubs will be out in full force at the Portland Comic Book Show on November 13th. Featuring movie accurate costumes, Cloud City Garrison “the Villians” will feature Stormtroopers & Darth Vader. Kashyyyk Base features “the Rebels” including Jedi Knights, Pilots, Princesses, and Wookies. Mandalorian Mercs are “the bounty hunters” from Star Wars. Star Wars fans should bring their cameras as all 3 Costuming clubs will be available for pictures!
