Image Comics Announces More Bestselling Writers And Artists To Attend RCCC Homecoming Dance

 Best-selling Image Comics creators Donny Cates (GOD COUNTRY, REDNECK), Emi Lenox (PLUTONA, EMITOWN), Nick Dragotta (EAST OF WEST, HOWTOONS), Emma Ríos (PRETTY DEADLY), and Valentine De Landro (BITCH PLANET) have all RSVP’d to attend the Image Comics’ Fall Homecoming dance!

They will be joined by previously announced attending creators: Chip Zdarsky (SEX CRIMINALS, KAPTARA), Babs Tarr (MOTOR CRUSH), Matt Fraction (SEX CRIMINALS, ODY-C), and Kelly Sue DeConnick (BITCH PLANET, PRETTY DEADLY).

Back by popular demand, Image Comics is pleased to host a very special formal Fall Homecoming dance for the comics community during the Rose City Comic Con festivities. The dance will be held on Saturday, September 9th from 8:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. at The Evergreen. This event will be 21+ only. IDs will be checked at the door.

Image Comics’ Fall Homecoming will be in the style and spirit of a traditional high school dance and all comics fans and industry members are encouraged to come mix, mingle, and dance the night away.

Image Comics Fall Homecoming ticket tiers: 

  • $20: Entry ticket
  • $45: Add-on pack, including an Image t-shirt, variant cover comic, commemorative pint glass, and enamel pin

Image Comics Announces Panels & Signing for TCAF 2017

Image Comics is pleased to announce that the Toronto Comic Arts Festival (TCAF) 2017 will celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary with a slew of cannot-miss panels and events.

For two days in May, Image Comics creators, staff, and friends, will take over TCAF’s newest venue The Masonic Temple (introduced in 2016), located at 888 Yonge Street, a block north of TCAF’s main location Toronto Reference Library. The Image 25th Anniversary Party at The Masonic Temple will be a fully accessible venue which will feature both all-day exhibitors and timed creator signings, as well as panel discussions, live drawing, special ‘talk show’ segment, and more.

The Image 25th Anniversary Party at The Masonic Temple runs Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, May 14, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and as with almost every TCAF event, admission will be FREE.

Magical Monsters! Terrific Technologies! Alien Alternatives! When the real world isn’t big enough for your ideas, sometimes you’ve got to build your own! Join Jamie McKelvie, Sloane Leong, Simon Roy, and Andrew MacLean as they discuss what it takes to design a whole new world to contain your stories.

Image 25th: Glitterbomb vs. Monstress—Terrifically Terrifying Comics
Few things are as horrific as real horror! Few things are as felt as true feelings! So how do you convey both of those things in comics? Join the teams behind the terrific and terrifying MONSTRESS (Marjorie Liu and Sana Takeda) and GLITTERBOMB (Jim Zub and Djibril Morrissette-Phan) on how they go about imbuing their stories and characters with real emotion, while also scaring your pants off.

Day jobs. Everybody’s got one. But how do you go about paying the bills while creating hit creator-owned comics? How do you make sure you have enough creative energy for both? Marjorie Liu, Jim Zub, Ivan Brandon, and Jason Latour are no strangers to balancing projects they do for others and projects the do for themselves. Come and hear how they try to make it work.

The teams behind MOTOR CRUSH and the upcoming Isola have been working together for quite a while. Come and hear Brenden Fletcher, Cameron Stewart, Babs Tarr, and Karl Kerschl talk about their comic book making pasts, jumping to creator-owned comics as a team, and if there’s any friendly competition when both of their books are on the racks.

Drawing things you can see is hard enough. But how do you go about drawing things that aren’t what they seem? How do you draw the surreal and the supernatural? Join masters of the unreal Farel Dalrymple, Vanesa Del Rey, Wes Craig, and Ray Fawkes as they talk about creating visuals for the unknown.

Image 25th: Island: Experimental Storytelling and Beyond
Island was an exciting experiment in creating a Heavy Metal-style anthology for North America. TCAF Celebrates 25 Years of Image Comics

The Toronto Comic Arts Festival returns for it’s 9th year to Toronto Reference Library, with a star-studded kick-off event! Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of premiere U.S. comic book publisher Image Comics, the event will see an amazing panel discussion about the history, impact, and future of Image by some of their most famous cartoonists. Featuring:

  • Governor General’s Award nominee Jeff Lemire (Secret Path, Royal City)

Emma Ríos appears at Gosh Comics for a signing on Friday, June 24th, 6-7pm, and will be launching the trade of her latest series I.D.

Emma Ríos will be debuting her newest book, I.D., published by Image Comics. originally serialised in the pages of Brandon Graham’s comic anthology Island Magazine, this is a collection of the dystopian mini series written and drawn by Emma is set in the near future following three people dealing with unhappiness over their physical appearance. They all decide undergo “body transplant” as a solution to their discontent. The series is a beautiful narration of identity and self-perception, from gender dysphoria to needing to escape from one’s past.

Emma, a Spanish artist, originally worked in architecture and produced self published comics work. She made her debut on the American comics scene with the series Hexed, about a thief working in the occult underground, and at Marvel comics with mini-series under Doctor Strange and Amazing Spider Man. Her most critically acclaimed series has been Pretty Deadly, from Image Comics, a collaboration with writer, Kelly Sue DeConnick.
