Burt Ward to Make 1st Emerald City Comicon Appearance in 2013

Burt Ward Robin

Press Release:

Atomic batteries to power! Turbines to speed! The “Boy Wonder” swings into Seattle with Batman…..for the FIRST TIME EVER!!!

Actor Burt Ward, classic television’s Robin, to suit up for Emerald City Comicon 2013 !

Seattle, WA – The one and only Burt Ward (“Robin” from the 1960s Batman) is the thirteenth special celebrity guest announced for the upcoming Emerald City Comicon taking place on March 1st – 3rd, 2013 at the Washington State Convention Center. He will be appearing all three days!

Emerald City Comicon 2013 is the very first and only time that both Adam West and Burt Ward have appeared in Seattle for a joint appearance in their nearly 50 years of working together.

Burt Ward gained pop culture immortality as crime-fighting super hero sidekick “Robin” from the legendary series Batman. Cast in the role at the young age of only 19, Ward, along with Adam West, brought the iconic “dynamic duo” to life for two and a half seasons (1966-68). Additionally, they starred in a 1966 theatrical version of Batman that was produced in order to sell the series to stations overseas.

Ward almost landed Dustin Hoffman’s role in The Graduate, but instead opted to renew his contract with Batman. Though short-lived, their characters would get a second life as a Saturday morning cartoon. Entitled The New Adventures of Batman, the animated offering produced by Filmation Studios would see both Ward and West reprise their roles as “Batman” and “Robin” for the 1977-78 season. Ward and West would reunite on several occasions, including the campy live-action 1979 farce Legends of the Superheroes and the 2003‘s Back to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt.

After Batman, Ward would go on to make guest appearances on such shows as Spongebob Squarepants and The Simpsons. He also starred in the 1984 television movie High School U.S.A., which featured other classic stars of the small screen including Jerry Mathers, Ricky Nelson and Batman co-star Julie Newmar.

In 1994, Ward and his wife founded a charitable organization called Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions, which rescues giant breed dogs like Great Danes. A year later, he wrote a tell-all autobiography called Boy Wonder: My Life in Tights about his time playing arguably one of the most famous sidekicks of all time.

Joining Ward at ECCC 2013 will be  previously announced guests  Sir Patrick Stewart (“Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek The Next Generation, “Dr. Charles Xavier” from the X-Men films), Billy Dee Williams (“Lando Calrissian” from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi), Walter Koenig (“Chekov” from classic Star Trek), Natalia Tena (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones), Paul McGillion (Stargate Atlantis), Michael Shanks (Saving Hope, Stargate SG-1), Kristin Bauer (“Pam” from HBO’s True Blood), Gillian Anderson (“Agent Scully” from The X-Files), Chandler Riggs (“Carl Grimes” on AMC’s The Walking Dead), Adam West (TV’s classic Batman, Dirk Benedict (“Faceman” from The A-Team, “Starbuck” from Battlestar Galactica) and Danai Gurira (“Michonne” from The Walking Dead).
