Award-winning comics writer Ed Brubaker comes to the Booksmith on Monday, October 24 at 7:30 PM to celebrate the release of the deluxe edition of The Fade Out; the epic graphic novel of murder, intrigue, and morality in blacklist-era Hollywood, illustrated by Sean Phillips and colored by Elizabeth Breitweiser. This beautiful oversized hardback edition collects issues #1-12 and includes behind-the-scenes extras, sketches, layouts, illustrations, and historical essays.
Ed Brubaker has won the Best Writer Award in the Harveys and the Eisners five times since 2006. His work with Sean Phillips on Criminal, Incognito, Fatale, and The Fade Out has been translated around the world to great acclaim. He was raised partly on Navy bases, and credits being forced to go to his mother’s AA meetings throughout much of his childhood with planting the seed of writing in his brain, and his father’s love of comics and movies for nurturing it. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife Melanie and their dog Roscoe, where he works in comics, film, and television.

Join two of comics’ greatest crime noir authors and Featured Guests of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, Ed Brubaker (Criminal, Fatale) and Darwyn Cooke (Parker, Selina’s Big Score), in a special evening of comics and noir! The two will discuss their work and influences with special guest interviewer Cameron Ashley (Crime Factor), and they’ll cover their love of all things down, dirty, and mean. Cooke and Brubaker will then introduce a special screening of one of their favourite crime films, Stanley Kubrick’s The Killing. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door, and are available now online at the link…
His first feature film, Kubrick’s The Killing chronicles a racetrack heist that goes terribly wrong. Widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s greatest noir achievements, The Killing has influenced generations of crime writers, including Brubaker and Cooke.
Admission to this event is $7 in advance, $10 at the door. The doors for the event will open at 5:00 pm, with the talk beginning at 5:30 pm. If you’re buying through Eventbrite, you will be able to have your ticket verified and exchanged for a general-admission ticket at the theatre beginning at 4:00 pm. IMAGE COMICS ANNOUNCES IMAGE EXPO 2013
Publisher to host media event on July 2 in San Francisco
At the Diamond Comics Retailer summit in Chicago today, Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson announced Image Expo 2013, a unique media event that will take place in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on July 2, 2013.
Image Expo 2013 will be an all-day event featuring announcements from Image Comics, the publisher of the best-selling comic book titles THE WALKING DEAD, SAGA, FATALE, EAST OF WEST and JUPITER’S LEGACY, as well as appearances by superstar creators, including Image partner and THE WALKING DEAD creator Robert Kirkman and Ed Brubaker, co-creator of the Eisner-nominated FATALE, revealing panels, and autograph sessions. Tickets for this exciting event will available to the general public for purchase on May 3, 2013.
Image Expo 2013 follows the publisher’s successful 2012 Image Expo convention, which was held in Oakland, California. Image Expo 2013 will be be the most intimate comics event of its kind, offering unprecedented access to creators, exclusive swag, and the first chance to hear what the publisher that has been taking the comics industry by storm has planned for the future.
