Set in 1939, the exciting story brings together a secret society of geniuses about to reveal an incredible discovery, a half-man, half-machine determined to stop them, a mother and son on vacation at the World’s Fair, and a comic book—brought to life in a 20-page full-color insert—that thrusts them into the crossfires of conspiracy. Joining us for a discussion and signing, Jonathan Case and Jeff Jensen, two of the book’s authors and illustrators, will introduce the exciting story and invite us all into its captivating world.

Things From Another World is proud to announce a signing and gallery reception with Eisner Award-winning artist Jonathan Case, September 12 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Portland TFAW! Case will sign his newest release from Dark Horse Comics, The Creep #1, and display his original pages from The Creep, Green River Killer, Dear Creature, and more! Complimentary food and beer (21+ with valid ID) provided.
Periscope Studios artist Jonathan Case won the Best Reality-Based Work Eisner for Green River Killer this year, as well as the Stumptown Awards for Best Artist and Best New Talent for GRK and Dear Creature. Now he teams up with B.P.R.D. writer John Arcudi for The Creep, a noir miniseries starring Oxel Karnhus, a private investigator who is reunited with his college sweetheart by a horrible tragedy. Hellboy creator Mike Mignola calls it, “A beautiful book and, for my money, no one in comics writes better stories about human beings than John Arcudi.”
Case hit the comics scene in a big way with Green River Killer, a haunting tale of notorious serial killer Gary Leon Ridgway, written by Entertainment Weekly writer Jeff Jensen. Case’s cult-hit Dear Creature, a monster-pulp-romance, showcases a different side of Case’s art and storytelling talent, melding sweetness and sci-fi.
Come pick up your copy of The Creep #1 on release date and get it signed by the artist, and see Jonathan Case’s original pages in person! Copies of Green River Killer and more will also be available for purchase. See you September 12 at the Portland TFAW.

Jonathan Case signs at Powell’s Books on October 20, 2011 at 7:30PM!
In Jonathan Case’s graphic novel Dear Creature (Tor), a creature named Grue broods deep beneath the waves. He no longer wants to eat lusty beachgoers, no matter how their hormones call to him. A chorus of crabs urges him to reconsider. After all, people are delicious! But this monster has changed. Grue found Shakespeare’s plays in cola bottles and, through them, a new heart. Now he yearns to join the world above.

About Dear Creature:
Grue has found Shakespeare’s plays in cola bottles and, through them, a new heart. Now he yearns to join the world above. When he finds love in the arms of Giulietta, a woman trapped in her own world, he believes his prayers are answered. But people have gone missing and Giulietta’s nephew is the prime suspect. With his past catching up to him, Grue must decide if becoming a new man means ignoring the monster he was. Rising from a brine of drive-in pulp and gentle poetry, Dear Creature is the love story you never imagined!
About Green River Killer:
Throughout the 1980s, the highest priority of Seattle-area police was the apprehension of the Green River Killer, the man responsible for the murders of dozens of women. In 1990, with the body count numbering at least forty-eight, the case was put in the hands of a single detective, Tom Jensen. After twenty years, when the killer was finally captured with the help of DNA technology, Jensen spent 180 days interviewing Gary Leon Ridgway in an effort to learn his most closely held
secrets–an epic confrontation with evil that proved as disturbing and surreal as can be imagined. Written by Jensen’s own son, acclaimed entertainment writer
Jeff Jensen, Green River Killer: A True Detective Story presents the ultimate insider’s account of America’s most prolific serial killer.
