Press Release:

DARK HORSE INTRODUCES NEW EVENTS AND COMMUNITY MANAGER, KARI YADRO

SEPTEMBER 7, MILWAUKIE, OR—Today Dark Horse announced the appointment of Kari Yadro to the newly created role of events and community manager. In the beginning, Dark Horse was built on the idea of creating an atmosphere that was friendly and accessible to both creators and fans. In 2010, Dark Horse has looked to continue this tradition with a heavy focus on the growing online social-networking channels. Looking forward to 2011, the company hopes to focus heavily on the growing comics community in Portland, Oregon, and the world at large, with more events and activities demonstrating leadership balanced with accessibility.

This new position will not only encompass all Dark Horse trade-show coordination and planning, but also any and all Dark Horse events, such as in-store appearances and signings. In addition, the Dark Horse events and community manager will focus heavily on Dark Horse’s social-networking strategy, overseeing Facebook, Twitter, and all other channels, as this has become an increasingly important area for Dark Horse.

Kari Yadro comes to Dark Horse from a storied career with Barnes & Noble, where she currently holds the position of community relations manager. In her time there, she has handled coordination of all in-store events, large and small. Kari’s passion for science fiction led her into the comic shop by way of Dark Horse’s own Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight.

“It’s an honor to be joining the comic-book industry, particularly in the Pacific Northwest, where there are so many amazing publishers,” said Kari Yadro. “I’m really excited about connecting with Dark Horse’s fans and exploring partnership opportunities with organizations in the local and world communities.”

“As Dark Horse continues to expand our presence in the minds of fans on and off of the trade-show floors, I am confident that Kari brings the perfect balance of events experience and community building to her new role,” said Dark Horse’s director of public relations, Jeremy Atkins. “I couldn’t be happier about the level of energy and enthusiasm she brings to the position.”

Kari will cut her teeth at October’s New York Comic Con. Please make sure to stop by the Dark Horse booth and say hello.

Dark Horse and TNT Team for Falling Skies at SDCC 2010 and Prequel Comic

Press Release:

DARK HORSE AND TNT TEAM UP ON COMIC BOOK PREQUEL TO FALLING SKIES

THE EAGERLY ANTICIPATED NEW SERIES STARRING NOAH WYLE, PRODUCED BY DREAMWORKS TELEVISION AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER STEVEN SPIELBERG WILL APPEAR

IN COMIC FORM ONLINE AND IN PRINT!

JULY 22ND, SAN DIEGO, CA–TNT is teaming up with publisher Dark Horse Comics to create a comic book and webcomic prequel to FALLING SKIES, the eagerly anticipated new series starring Noah Wyle (ER, TNT’s The Librarian movies) and produced by DreamWorks Television and executive producer Steven Spielberg. The comic book and webcomic are slated to be unveiled at New York Comic Con in October. FALLING SKIES, which is set to premiere on TNT in summer 2011, is a gripping drama that envisions a world where aliens have invaded, and the fate of humanity lies in the hands of a few survivors.

During New York Comic Con (Oct. 8-10), TNT and Dark Horse will distribute an exclusive, special-edition 12-14 page comic book that tells the harrowing backstory of the alien invasion. Beginning Nov. 1, fans will be able to download an extended webcomic version through tnt.tv, darkhorse.com and iTunes, with new installments posted every two weeks.

“The FALLING SKIES comic book and webcomic provide a great way for TNT to ramp up excitement for FALLING SKIES, while also providing a thrilling backstory to the series’ intriguing premise and characters,” said Tricia Melton, senior vice president of entertainment marketing for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We look forward to working with Dark Horse Comics as we begin the FALLING SKIES invasion.”

In addition to the comic book and webcomic, Dark Horse is collaborating with TNT on the FALLING SKIES presence at this month’s Comic-Con International in San Diego. The event will include appearances and autograph sessions with series stars Wyle and Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation), along with co-executive producer and writer Mark Verheiden (Heroes, Battlestar Galactica). On Friday, July 23, from 2-3 p.m. (PT), the three will appear at Dark Horse’s Comic-Con International booth, where they will sign exclusive FALLING SKIES posters. Then from 4:45 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. (PT), Wyle, Bloodgood and Verheiden will participate in a Q&A panel session in Room 6A.

In FALLING SKIES, Wyle stars as a former college professor who becomes the leader of a group of soldiers and civilians struggling against an occupying alien force. Bloodgood co-stars as Anne Glass, a therapist who works with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic situation. The series also stars Drew Roy (Lincoln Heights) as Hal and Maxim Knight (Brothers & Sisters) as Matt, Tom’s two sons; and Seychelle Gabriel (Weeds) as Lourdes, an orphaned teenager who helps run the group’s commissary. Will Patton (Armageddon, TNT’s Into the West) plays a fierce leader of the resistance.

FALLING SKIES is executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, along with DreamWorks Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank and screenwriter Robert Rodat. Rodat, who earned an Oscar® nomination for his screenplay for Saving Private Ryan, wrote the pilot from an idea he co-conceived with Spielberg. Verheiden and Greg Beeman (Heroes, Smallville) are co-executive producers. The pilot was directed by Carl Franklin (One False Move, Out of Time).

Press Release:

DARK HORSE TO KICK OFF NEW GOLD KEY COMICS PROGRAM AT C2E2!

LEGENDARY CREATORS JIM SHOOTER AND MIKE RICHARDSON TO RE-INTRODUCE FANS TO THESE ICONIC SUPERHEROES

MILWAUKIE, OR (APRIL 12, 2010)–Dark Horse and Classic Media announced today that this weekend’s C2E2 convention will be the launch for the much-anticipated new Gold Key Comics program. Fans will have the chance to meet Dark Horse President Mike Richardson and creator Jim Shooter, and gain insider information on what to expect from this summer’s upcoming releases. News of the line was first announced at San Diego Comic Con International 2009, and fans have been anxiously awaiting details ever since.

“Jim and I share a great affection for these terrific characters. We have some very exciting ideas on how to introduce them to a whole new generation of fans.” said Mike Richardson, president of Dark Horse Comics. “C2E2 is just the beginning.”

“I’ve done this long enough to know when it feels right — and it does — so there’s a chance, at least, that it is. I stand on the shoulders of giants like Manning, Newman and Du Bois,” said Jim Shooter. “On top of that I’ve had terrific support from Mike Richardson and Senior Editor Chris Warner, plus great art from Bill Reinhold and Dennis Calero. Overture, curtain, lights…!”

In addition, throughout the C2E2 weekend, Dark Horse will announce the creative teams and more titles in the works for Gold Key. Then, the new line will kick off in print only a few weeks later, on Saturday, May 1st, as part of Free Comic Book Day, and fans can look for exciting promotional Apps on iTunes in early May.

Doctor Solar, the first title in the line, will arrive in stores this summer!

Dark Horse Unveils Dexter Bust at C2E2 2010

Press Release:

DARK HORSE CAPTURES THE WORLD’S MOST NOTORIOUS SERIAL KILLER

ALL NEW DEXTERâ„¢ BUST TO BE UNVEILED AT THIS WEEKEND’S C2E2 CONVENTION!

APRIL 14TH, MILWAUKIE, OR–Dexter Morgan, recently of Miami, is now securely detained and immobilized in a sculptural facsimile limited-edition bust. He is slated for release in July.

Dexter Morgan, Miami Metro Police Department blood spatter analyst, has a double life. When he’s not helping the Homicide division solve murders, he spends his time hunting and killing bad guys who slip through the justice system.

These days, America’s favorite serial killer has gone from freewheeling bachelor to doting dad. Maintaining an average-guy facade while satisfying his need to kill has never been easy. But now, after being drawn into a deadly game with The Trinity Killer, a killer every bit as dangerous and conflicted as he is, last season’s shocking finale has left him dealing with the devastating consequence of his own actions.

In bringing the SHOWTIME® character, brilliantly portrayed by recent Golden Globe® and Screen Actors Guild Award® winner, Michael C. Hall, into a sculpture, Dark Horse wanted to capture both “sides” of Dexter. Their solution: viewed from the front, he is examining a blood spatter slide, as he would do in his job for the police. But danger lurks hidden behind his back, as evidenced by a razor-sharp blade.

The detailed sculpture re-creates Dexter’s signature knit shirt, right down to the weave of the fabric. The likeness of Michael C. Hall is spot-on, sculpted expressly for the Dark Horse project by the artisans at Gentle Giant Studios, who are recognized as industry leaders in the collectibles and filmed entertainment fields.

The Dexter limited-edition bust is a hand-painted, numbered edition. It is produced under license with the cooperation and participation of Showtime Networks and Michael C. Hall. It will be packaged in full-color collector packaging, and contains a Certificate of Authenticity. Release is slated for August, 2010. Fans will have the chance to see the piece in person at this weekend’s C2E2 convention in Chicago.
