UK – Three Rooms in Valerie’s Head Launch Party

Writer David Gaffney and artist Dan Berry appear at Gosh Comics to celebrate the launch of their graphic novel Three Rooms in Valerie’s Head on Thursday, the 22nd of February at 7:00 till 9:00 PM!

Three Rooms in Valerie’s Head is “British comedy blended with universal regret, this darkly funny graphic novel uses surreal and beautiful visions to explore the ways we remain haunted by our ex-lovers. Valerie has a rich interior life. Serially unlucky in love, to feel better she imagines that her previous boyfriends are dead and that their bodies are kept downstairs in the cellar in a strange, mummified state. Every day she brings them upstairs and speaks to them about what went wrong. What follows is a series of peculiar and funny, and sometimes disturbing short tales about inept lovers, weird obsessions, and socially malfunctioning men who repeatedly fail to build a relationship with poor Valerie.”

David Gaffney’s funny, sad, strange, and very short fiction has been entertaining and moving us since his first collection, Sawn-Off Tales was published in 2006. He’s since written all sorts of things, from novels to narratives in the form of cat posters. Dan Berry’s gorgeous watercoloured comics and illustrations have been a favourite for years, so we’re pleased as punch to have their first collaboration launched here with us on the 22nd of February, at 7 pm and we hope you can join us!

Press Release:

Great Beast is a UK indie publisher run by dream-team Adam Cadwell and Marc Ellerby, both with long runs of diary comics under their belts (The Everyday and Ellerbisms, respectively). GB’s roster includes a veritable who’s who of faces at UK conventions: Robert Ball, Warwick Johnson-Cadwell (current artist on Tank Girl), Dan Berry (also host of the excellent Make It Then Tell Everybody series of podcasts about cartoonists’ process), John Riordan & Dan Cox, John Cei Douglas, and Isabel Greenberg, whose book The Encyclopedia of Early Earth recently made it unto the New York Times Bestseller list. Of course Cadwell’s and Ellerby’s more action-based new series, Blood Blokes and Chloe Noonan, are also on the list of these tasty, tasty offerings. The entire GB team will be descending upon us for the evening for chatting, drinking, signing, and possibly more drinking. Great Beast’s website is here to peruse.

To celebrate this explosion of UK indie talent, Gosh Comics will be popping the bottles of fizzy wine again on Friday, the 14th of March, from 7pm to 9pm.

Press Release:

Blank Slate have published so many books by New! British! Talent! in the last month that we need to throw a launch party for a bunch of them all at once. All at once. We’re having a big ol’ launch party on Friday the 9th of August, from 7pm until 9pm by which point you will have drunk all our beer and will have to set about finding more in the pubs of Soho.

Those five books are: Joe Decie’s The Listening Agent, Donya Todd’s Death and the Girls, Jim Medway’s Playing Out, Oliver East’s Swear Down and Dan Berry’s The Suitcase.

Overwhelmed? Let’s break it down. (Blurbs after the break.)

As usual, if you can’t make the launch party but would like to nab some signed copies, just email us at info@goshlondon.com.

Mail order people: we do a flat-rate of £5 postage within the UK so you can get ALL OF THE ABOVE BOOKS posted to you for just £5 (on top of their combined retail price, obviously). Elsewhere: you’ll have to let me know which ones you’d like and where you want them posted to so I can work it out. We can post anywhere in the world.
