Alternative cartoonist Dame Darcy has a loyal following in the Bay based on her more than 40 books, multiple videos and her work as a performance artist and musician when she lived here in the 90s after graduating from the San Francisco Art Institute. She will be appearing at the Escapist Comic Bookstore, speaking and reading from her work, including her latest book, Handbook For Hot Witches (2012). Her comic book, Meat Cake, has been published by Fantagraphics since 1993, in both comic books and collected in the Dame Darcy’s Meat Cake compilation. Her other graphic novels include Frightful Fairytales, The Illustrated Jane Eyre (2006), Dollerium (2007), Comic Book Tattoo (2008), and Gasoline (2008). She also illustrated Justine Brown’s Spin the Bottle (2007) has done a Mermaid Tarot Deck based on the classic Rider-Waite Tarot.¬†Many of these titles will be available for sale to be signed at the store.

Fantagraphics Gallery Anniversary Party

The Fantagraphics comics store and gallery in Seattle, Washington, will celebrate its third anniversary with a party on December 12 featuring such indie comics creators as Peter Bagge, Femke Hiemstra, Paul Hornschemeier, Jay Ryan, Dame Darcy, and Jim Woodring. The event will also serve as the launch party for the new Fantagraphics book Portable Grindhouse. Entrance is free to the general public, and entertainment will be provided by Bagge’s band Can You Imagine. More details are available here.
