WA – Kids Love Comics 2017

Join the Olympia Timberland Library and Danger Room Comics on Saturday, December 2nd at this special event celebrating comics for kids! Kids, teens, and families will have the opportunity to meet cartoonists Faith Erin Hicks (creator of The Nameless City), and Kazu Kibuishi (creator of Amulet). Hear them talk about their creative process and get books signed. Frank Hussey of Danger Room Comics will present comics in Reader’s Theater format, and an activity for kids and families will be provided in the meeting room. Kids: feel free to come dressed up as your favorite comic book character! Books will be on sale courtesy Danger Room Comics. Sponsored by the Friends of the Olympia Timberland Library.

Kazu Kibuishi is the writer/illustrator of the Amulet graphic novel series for Scholastic Graphix, the editor of the Flight and Explorer comics anthologies for Abrams ComicArts, and the creator of the Copper webcomic at his website, boltcity.com. Amulet Creator Kazu Kibuishi Comes to Baltimore Comic-Con 2017

Kazu Kibuishi, creator of the Amulet graphic novel series and the cover artist for the anniversary edition of Harry Potter, comes to Baltimore Comic-Con as part of Kids Love Comics.

New York Times bestseller Kazu Kibuishi’s magical graphic novels have taken the book world by storm, and now that magic is coming to the Baltimore Comic-Con September 22-24! Mr. Kibuishi will be on hand all weekend (Booth #3013 in the Kids Love Comics Area) to meet his fans, sign his books, and share his process in creating graphic novels. Copies of Mr. Kibuishi’s books will be available for purchase if anyone forgets to bring a copy to have signed!

Ask any class of kids across America about the graphic novel series Amulet, and you will probably hear an excited description of adventure, kid heroes, and amazing creatures, all said with a big smile. Featuring magic, elves, robots, demons, and anthropomorphic animals, Amulet has become a bright light for reluctant readers and excited book lovers alike.

Kibuishi will be giving FREE talks on his process of creating comics on Saturday at the Baltimore Comic-Con, as part of the perennial convention’s Kids Love Comics educational and entertainment initiative.

“Baltimore Comic-Con is not only a wonderful comic convention,” said John Gallagher, Kids Love Comics Executive Director, “it’s an incredible, family-friendly event. Kazu’s inclusion at the show is a natural progression of BCC’s dedication to inspiring young people to read and enjoy the magic of comics.”

MICE 2017 Celebrates Independent Comics and Graphic Novels on October 21 – 22

MICE is back! On October 21 – 22, 2017 independent graphic novelists and cartoonists will converge on University Hall in Cambridge’s Porter Square. The event is free, family friendly, and offers a weekend of activities as the Boston area’s only show dedicated to independent and alternative comics. This year’s show will also welcome a full line-up of special guests — professionals from the world of independent comics and graphic novels including: Michael DeForge, Kazu Kibuishi, Liz Prince, Jason Shiga, Mark Siegel, and Isabel Greenberg!

MICE attendees are invited to discover their new favorite comic books from over 200 comic creators from the Boston area and beyond. The exhibition area at MICE will present a wide range of art and books: hand-made mini-comics and zines, anthologies, graphic novels, art prints, and sketches. Panel discussions will provide insightful conversations about the world of contemporary comics and graphic novels. Artists will share techniques, tips, and tricks for creating your own comics in a variety of workshops for all ages and skill levels.

MICE (Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo) will be held at Lesley University’s University Hall at 1815 Massachusetts Avenue in Porter Square. The hours of the show are Saturday, October 21st, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and Sunday, October 22nd, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Admission is free. Further information available on the website: www.micexpo.org

Baltimore Comic-Con 2017 Kids Love Comics Pavilion Announces Guests

Family fun returns to the 2017 Baltimore Comic-Con this September 22-24 at the Baltimore Convention Center in the beautiful Inner Harbor. The Baltimore Comic-Con presents the Kids Love Comics Pavilion, where kids and parents can venture towards comics fun with the biggest and best kids section at any comic convention – so big, you might need a road map! For 2017, the Kids Love Comics Pavilion welcomes #1 New York Times best-selling author Kazu Kibuishi, whose Amulet graphic novels have been read by millions across the US and beyond. Kibuishi was also chosen as cover illustrator for new editions of the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling.

There will be something for every member of your family at this year’s KLC area in Baltimore, as attendees walk through four kid-friendly “avenues,” featuring some of the best kids and young adult comic creators, as well as a fun-filled comics activity area to rev up the imagination. Families will also enjoy the Kids Love Comics Workshop, where hourly presentations will be given in character creation, drawing imaginary creatures, making comics, and young sidekicks can even attend and graduate from “Super Hero University!”

A diverse group of writers and artists will be on hand at Amulet AvenueAmelia Rules RoadAw Yeah Avenue, and Leon Lane – each of these streets centered around some of the beloved creators in the Kids Love Comics Pavilion and Baltimore Comic-Con veterans. One special addition is Leon Lane, in which cult comics favorite Jamar Nicholas gets the spotlight, as he premieres the long-awaited Leon, Protector of the Playground graphic novel.

Kazu Kibuishi is the writer and artist of the New York Times Bestselling AMULET graphic novel series, published by Scholastic. He is also the editor/art director/cover artist of the EXPLORER and FLIGHT Comic Anthologies, and is the cover illustrator of the Harry Potter 15th Anniversary Edition paperbacks from Scholastic. His debut graphic novel, Daisy Kutter: The Last Train, won a YALSA Best Books for Young Adults Award.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Kazu moved to the U.S. with his mother and brother when he was a child. He graduated from Film Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2000, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He currently works as a full-time graphic novelist. Kazu lives near Seattle, Washington with his wife and two children.
