  • George Pérez’s Sirens Signing Tour

    Press Release:

Award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios is excited to announce that comics’ legend George Pérez will be embarking on his first nationwide signing tour to promote his new original series, George Pérez’s Sirens. Pérez will be visiting six different comic shops and three conventions in seven states across the country to meet fans and sign copies of his first original comic book series in over a decade. Appearing alongside the luminary creator at several of the events will be the real-life friends and fans who inspired the Sirens themselves.

As an intergalactic force enslaves planets across the galaxy, the legendary team known only as the Sirens must reunite to save the galaxy—but is that even possible when the Sirens themselves don’t even remember who they are? And the rest of the universe only remembers them as…villains? A six-issue bi-monthly miniseries featuring your new favorite comic book team, written and drawn by the master himself, George Pérez (Wonder Woman, JLA Vs. Avengers) begins his greatest story yet.

“This is gonna be so much fun,” said BOOM! Studios Editor-in-Chief Matt Gagnon. “George has never gone on a signing tour before, so this a really unique opportunity for his fan base. Spanning the course of two full weeks, George will be visiting numerous comic shops and conventions, meeting fans from all over the country, and introducing them to his newest work, Sirens. A huge thanks goes out to all the retailers and convention organizers that made this possible. And of course, the biggest thanks of all goes out to George for agreeing to pack up and travel all over the U.S.!”

    Press Release:

“Doctor Who” fans of all ages are getting excited with the announcement that veteran English actor Paul McGann will be in attendance for the 2014 Cincinnati Comic Expo being held this September at the Duke Energy Convention Center. There, the star will be interacting with local fans, taking photos, signing autographs and answering questions as part of a panel discussion.

Paul McGann is best known for playing the eighth incarnation of the beloved time traveling alien adventurer, the Doctor, in the 1996 television film “Doctor Who,”a role he reprised in 72 audio dramas and the recent 2013 mini-episode “The Night of the Doctor”. McGann is still a regular face on British television where he has appeared in major roles on the programs “Luther,” “Jonathan Creek,” and “Waking The Dead.” The actor has also appeared in a variety of films over his lengthy career including parts in “My Kingdom,” “Alien 3,”and “Queen of the Damned.”

First airing in 1963, the BBC series “Doctor Who” is recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s longest-running science fiction television show. Since its relaunch in 2005 the series has brought in an entire new generation of devout young fans and is still recognized as a world-wide cult television phenomenon. The announcement of Paul’s participation has met with an enthusiastic response from not only local fans but also other guests coming to Cincinnati as part of the Expo. This includes artist Patrick Baumgardner who has done promotional work for the Dr Who Fan Club of America. Patrick, who has already met several of the other actors who played the seminal time traveler, explains why he is so eager to meet Paul McGann, “For me he is one of the elite actors who was able to capture the soul of the Doctor and make it his own…..on a fan note, I’m soooooo excited.”

Mr. McGann is just the latest celebrity confirmed to be attending this year’s convention. He is joining a roster of special guests that already includes beloved actor and television personality Lou Ferrigno, Dave Prowse and Peter Mayhew from the “Star Wars” film series, John Rhys Davies who is best known for his roles in the “Indiana Jones” and “Lord of the Rings”franchises, and Jewel Staite from the cult hit television program “Firefly.” Many more guest announcements are expected in advance of the 2014 Cincinnati Comic Book Expo.

David Prowse to Attend Cincinnati Comic Expo 2014

    Press Release:

Dave Prowse to Attend 2014 Cincinnati Comic Expo!

Cincinnati, OH – February 2014 - Science fiction fans and Sith Lords in Cincinnati have cause to rejoice with the announcement that Dave Prowse, the actor behind the mask of Darth Vader, will be coming to The Queen City for the 2014 Cincinnati Comic Expo being held this September at the Duke Energy Convention Center.

Prowse, a veteran actor of film and television, is best known for portraying the tragic villain, Darth Vader, in all three films of the original Star Wars trilogy. A champion bodybuilder, Mr. Prowse embodied the iconic character, whose distinct baritone voice was provided by James Earl Jones. The towering figure of Dave Prowse’s Darth Vader made an immediate impression on cinema audiences including Cincinnati Comic Expo founder, Andrew Satterfield: “I recall the first time seeing Star Wars at the local Dent Drive-In. The scene where Darth Vader walks through the rebel blast doors and interrogates the rebels was terrifying. However, I couldn’t take my eyeballs off the screen.”

While Dave Prowse is a familiar face at comic book and science fiction conventions in Europe, the actor is more discerning when it comes to attending events in the United States. The fifth annual Cincinnati Comic Expo marks the first time that Dave Prowse has come to Cincinnati and is the only opportunity Star Wars fans in the Midwest will have to meet this legend of the silver screen. Satterfield is appreciative that the actor has included Cincinnati as part of his touring schedule: “Each year Mr. Prowse hand selects a few USA signing appearances. We are honored the Sith Lord himself chose the 5th annual Cincinnati Comic Expo.” In addition to signing autographs and taking pictures with guests, the actor will be taking part in panel discussions; telling stories about how Star Wars came to life and answering questions from fans.

Dave Prowse will be joined at this year’s convention by fellow Star Wars alum Peter Mayhew, who played the Millennium Falcon’s heroic and hairy co-pilot Chewbacca. Additional media guests also include former Power Ranger and mixed martial arts fighter Jason David Frank, Jewel Staite from the cult hit television program Firefly, and John Rhys Davies who is best known for his roles in the Indiana Jones and Lord of the Rings film series. More guest announcements are expected in advance of the 2014 Cincinnati Comic Book Expo, which will be held from Friday, September 19, through Sunday, September 21.

Cincinnati Comic Expo Announces Four Legendary Swamp Thing Artists as 2012 Guests of Honor

    Swamp Thing

    Press Release:

Cincinnati Comic Expo Announces Four Legendary Swamp Thing Artists as Guests of Honor

The Cincinnati Comic Expo is thrilled to announce that four legendary Swamp Thing artists—Tom Yeates, Rick Veitch, John Totleben, and Stephen R. Bissette—will appear, together for the first time, as the Expo’s 2012 Guests of Honor.

The Director of the Cincinnati Comic Expo, Andrew Satterfield, said, “I am always looking for opportunities for our fans to meet extraordinary creators. The chance to meet even one of these hugely talented gentlemen is an extremely rare treat. All four in one room is like winning the lottery.”

Long-time collaborators Yeates, Veitch, Totleben, and Bissette were part of the 1980s team (along with writer Alan Moore) chosen by DC Comics to revive the comic series, Swamp Thing. Bringing them together as Guests of Honor at the Cincinnati Comics Expo is a reunion of epic proportions—a once in a lifetime opportunity for fans to meet these award-winning artists at the same time.

Their spectacular run on Swamp Thing is historic for several reasons. One, their 1980s run of Saga of the Swamp Thing was the first mainstream comic to write directly for adults. Another history making moment occurred with issue 37, published in 1985, when the well-known character of John Constantine made his first appearance, drawn by Rick Veitch and John Totleben.

The collaborative creativity of Yeates, Veitch, Totleben, and Bissette was so close that they often worked on the same issue of the comic, with one creating the cover art, another doing the pencil work and another the inking. At times, on every other issue, they would swap duties and this really made the comic a group effort.

All 4 will be available to meet fans and sign books at the show. The Cincinnati Comic Expo will also host a panel with all of them on stage to have a collective gathering and discussion on their work and Swamp Thing. More details will come out about that before the show.

    Tom Yeates

Tom Yeates has previous work on Prince Valiant and Zorro. Most recently, he also completed work on John Carter of Mars. He has not attended a Midwest convention in over a decade. The Tom Yeates official website is: http://www.thomasyeates.com. Tom will be publicly announced on Monday, June 11, 2012.

    Rick Veitch

Rick Veitch has done some work on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and on the re-launch of Aquaman. The Cincinnati Comic Expo is Rick’s first convention appearance in the United States in 10 years. Rick’s website is: http://www.rickveitch.com. Rick will be publicly announced on Tuesday, June 12, 2012.

    John Totleben

John Totleben is a multi-Kirby Award winner. He was also awarded the Inkpot Award. John also worked on the comic Miracleman and the graphic novel From Hell. John is attending his first major show in nearly 10 years. John will be publicly announced on Wednesday, June 13, 2012.

    Stephen R. Bissette

Stephen R. Bissette is also a multi-Kirby Award winner. Stephen is currently best known for his horror work. He was also a member of the first graduating class from the Kubert School along with Yeates and Veitch. Stephen has not appeared at a convention is 15 years. More on Bissette can be found at: http://srbissette.com. Stephen will be publicly announced on Thursday, June 14, 2012.

The Cincinnati Comic Expo was established in 2010 to provide an annual show celebrating all periods and genres of pop culture with an emphasis on comics. The 2012 Cincinnati Comic Expo will be held from Friday, September 21, through Sunday, September 23, at the Duke Energy Convention Center. Tickets vary in price and can be purchased online. More information on events and other artists attending the show can be found at www.cincinnaticomicexpo.com.
