Artist/writer Stuart Immonen (New Avengers, Ultimate Spider-Man) will raffle off four sketches each day of the Phoenix Comicon (Phoenix AZ, May 24 – 27, 2012) to benefit the Hero Initiative. This is a rare opportunity to commission a sketch as Immonen famously declines requests as outlined in his book 50 Reasons to Stop Sketching at Conventions.

Press Release:

Hero Initiative, the non profit organization that helps comic creators in need, is spending its Memorial Day weekend at Phoenix Comic Con, May 24th thru 27th at the Phoenix Convention Center Hyatt Regency, booth #1048-1050.

Artist Stuart Immonen will be helping Hero out at the con! The artist of Marvel Comics’ X-Men and Fear Itself will be at his own artist alley table, but sketching ONLY for Hero! Stuart will do four full-size 11-by-17-commission sketches per day. To get in in, you MUST purchase raffle tickets at $1 each. Four tickets per day will be drawn, and winners will pay $200 for a single-character, full-figure grey marker wash drawing. Drawings take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at noon!

In addition, you MUST buy the Spawn/Lady Death Phoenix Con print with art by Andy Arias and inked by Todd McFarlane! Both McFarlane and Lady Death creator Brian Pulido will sign each print, limited to 250 serial-numbered pieces. All proceeds benefit Hero Initiative.

And go see John Layman! Layman, writer of the Image Comics hit Chew, has sat on both sides of the pitching process as an editor and as a creator. He’ll be putting on a special panel Sunday, May 27 at 130 p.m. to tell you what it takes to develop a winning pitch for your comics and graphic novels! Tickets to this in-depth workshop and Q&A are available ONLY with a $25 donation to Hero Initiative. Seating is limited!

John Layman & Rob Guillory sign on Dec 5th

Chew Trade Paperback Release Party – December 5th!

Chew is one of the most buzzed-about new comics this year, and Rogues Gallery is throwing a party to celebrate the release of the trade paperback, with the writer and artist in attendance! On Saturday, December 5th, we’ll have writer John Layman and artist Rob Guillory in the store to sign the first, all-new, intro-priced at $10 Chew trade paperback. We’ll also have chicken, Yakuza and the FDA… but more on that after a quick synopsis.

Tony Chu is a cop with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he’s a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn’t mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. It`s a dirty job, and Tony has to eat terrible things in the name of justice. And if that wasn`t bad enough, the government has figured out Tony Chu`s secret. They have plans for him… whether he likes it or not.

Presenting a twisted new series about cops, crooks, cooks, cannibals and clairvoyants, written by JOHN LAYMAN (Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness, House of M: Fantastic Four and PUFFED) with mind-blowing art by ROB GUILLORY.

The party will start at 7:00 PM and continue until close, and everyone in attendance will be able to munch down on chicken fingers in the Yakuza speakeasy, take an FDA agent quiz or just indulge their inner cibopath (more on that one later). We’ll have a live remote comics podcast going on with the guys from the League of Extremely Ordinary Gentleman. And of course, folks can chat with the creative team of this new smash-hit series and pick up the first trade or get their issues of the series signed. There will also be a chance to win a rare first printing of the first issue of Chew!

We’ll have more information in November as the event gets closer, but book the date now… this is going to be one of our biggest events of the year.

From Larry’s newsletter:

Rob Guillory will NOT be signing this Saturday. Couldn’t be helped.
I rescheduled it. He will however be the guest at my next Westford Show, Sunday, November 29th.

Rob Guillory, artist on Image Comics Chew, signs at Larry’s Wonderful World of Comics this Saturday August 8th noon-3pm.

Chew is a new ongoing series from writer John Layman and artist newcomer Rob Guillory. The comic series follows the adventures of Philadelphia Police Department Detective Tony Chu, a cop with a weird secret.

Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. The result is hilarious Crime noir/sci fi comic. The book has sold out nationwide three times in the few months it has been out.

Rob is thrilled at the opportunity to meet and greet New England fans 08-08 12noon -3pm. He will be signing comics for free, selling art and sketchbooks and doing commissioned sketches.

Larry’s Wonderful World of Comics will have plenty of copies of Chew #1, #2 & #3 on hand as well as a Special limited printing of Chew #1 produced by Image Comics special for this event.
