Bridge City Comics is proud to announce our Comic-Legend Rick Geary Signing Event on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 6pm – 8pm! This event is free to the public.

In attendance will be the legendary cartoonist Rick Geary to sign autographs and to talk to fans about his 34 year career in comics! Rick has worked professionally as an illustrator in comics since 1977 and has numerous credits under his belt, including the popular “Treasury of Victorian Murder” series of books.

Bridge City Comics will have copies of a number of Rick’s books on hand for purchase during the event, including many Treasury of Victorian Murder books, as well as Cravan and The Adventures of Blanche.

About Rick Geary: He has written and illustrated three children’s books based on The Mask for Dark Horse and two Spider-Man children’s books for Marvel. His children’s comic “Society of Horrors” ran in Disney Adventures magazine. He was the artist for the new series of GUMBY Comics, written by Bob Burden, for which they received the 2007 Eisner Comic Industry Award for Best Publication for a Younger Audience. His graphic novels include three adaptations for the Classics Illustrated, and the nine-volume series A Treasury of Victorian Murder for NBM Publishing. The new series A Treasury of 20th Century Murder began in 2008 with “The Lindbergh Child.” His other historically-based graphic novels include Cravan, written with Mike Richardson, and J. Edgar Hoover: A Graphic Biography. Rick has received the Inkpot Award from the San Diego Comic Convention (1980) and the Book and Magazine Illustration Award from the National Cartoonists Society (1994).

OR – Stumptown Launch Party

Greg Rucka and Matt Southworth sign on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 6pm-8pm.

Award-winning author Greg Rucka and rising superstar artist Matt Southworth will be on hand to sign copies of Stumptown, the brand new hard cover graphic novel collection of their four issue miniseries of the same name. Stumptown is a hard-boiled detective story about a female P.I. in Portland. Copies of Stumptown will be available for purchase during the signing.

In addition, Bridge City Comics is teaming up with Stumptown publisher Oni Press to produce a limited edition print, featuring brand new Stumptown artwork (created by series artist Matt Southworth), for sale only at this event!

About Stumptown:
Dex Parios is the proprietor of Stumptown Investigations, and a fairly talented P.I. Unfortunately, she’s less adept at throwing dice than solving cases. Her recent streak has left her beyond broke – she’s in to the Confederated Tribes of the Wind Coast for 18 large. But maybe Dex’s luck is about to change. Sue-Lynne, head of the Wind Coast’s casino operation, will clear Dex’s debt if she can locate Sue-Lynne’s missing granddaughter. Bridge City Comics is proud to announce our Mike Mignola Signing Event on Thursday, March 3, 2011 from 6pm – 8pm! This event is free to the public.

In his first Oregon signing appearance in over a decade, comics legend Mike Mignola (creator of Hellboy, BRPD and The Amazing Screw-On Head) will be on hand to sign copies of his comics and talk shop with fans. In addition to having copies of his books and merchandise for sale, Bridge City Comics will also have special limited edition Hellboy art print (featuring never-before-seen Hellboy artwork by Mike) available for purchase during the signing.

In addition, Mike’s long-time collaborator, Dave Stewart, will be signing as well! Dave is a multiple-Eisner Award-winner and a highly-sought after colorist in comics.

OR – Axe Cop Signing

Join Bridge City Comics and Dark Horse Comics in welcoming artist Ethan Nicolle and writer Malachai Nicolle to Portland, OR for the release of their first print collection – Axe Cop Vol. 1!

In case you’re new to the Internet, Axe Cop is a webcomic that became wildly popular over this past year for being awesome, and also because of the unique creative team; Axe Cop writer Malachai Nicolle was 5 when the series began and artist Ethan Nicolle, his older brother, was 29. The combination of the two’s different talents have taken the world by storm!

On Saturday, December 18th, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, fans will have the chance to purchase Axe Cop Vol. 1 a full four-days before the general public at a special signing event! In addition to getting your brand-new copies of Axe Cop signed, you can watch artist Ethan Nicolle and writer Malachai Nicolle create an Axe Cop character and get in on the action as they ask for audience participation. Come early to get crayons and a coloring-page for the kids! Also, Bridge City Comics will be selling a limited edition Axe Cop print for $10!

We’ll have as many books on-hand as possible, but as this is an early-sale event, quantities are limited. So, come out and support the most interesting creative team in comics, or we’ll chop your head off!

OR – Serenity Signing

Writer Zack Whedon and artist Chris Samnee (Thor: The Mighty Avenger) appear in celebration of the new original graphic novel Serenity: The Shepherd’s Tale, Things From Another World (TFAW) and Dark Horse Comics are hosting an epic Firefly screening and Serenity signing on Tuesday, November 30th starting at 6:30pm.

This event is also hosted in conjunction with local comic book shops Bridge City Comics and Excalibur Books & Comics. Special thanks go out to the Hollywood Theatre and Film Action Oregon for donating their space and time, and to the PDX Browncoats for their awesome support.

Fans are invited to the Hollywood Theatre at 4122 NE Sandy Blvd. at 6:30 pm to see a rare public showing of the classic Firefly episode “Objects in Space” on the big screen! Admission is a canned or nonperishable food item for the Oregon Food Bank.

After the screening there will be a Q & A with Zack Whedon and Chris Samnee, which will be broadcast live via Skype. Interested parties can submit questions by posting them at Facebook.com/DarkHorseComics, visiting TFAW’s brick-and-mortar locations, or asking them at the event. Details regarding the Skype account for the live event are forthcoming.

Next, at 8:30 pm, festivities will move across the street to the Hollywood Things From Another World at 4133 NE Sandy Blvd. for a free, fun-filled signing with complimentary food and beer (with valid ID–no exceptions). Copies of Serenity: The Shepherd’s Tale will be available for purchase.

Bridge City Comics is proud to announce a special release party for Underground #1 on Wednesday, September 23 from 6pm – 8pm!

Underground #1 is written by Jeff Parker (Agents of Atlas, Interman), drawn by Steve Lieber (artist and co-creator of Whiteout, now a major motion picture adapted from the graphic novel) and colored by Ron Chan (Guy Ritchie’s Gamekeeper). All three are Portland locals and will be signing copies of Underground #1 (available for sale at Bridge City Comics) during this event!

In addition, original artwork from Underground #1 will be on display!
