    IDW Brings Locke & Key Talent to Boston Comic Con 2013

    idw_bcc13For its first appearance at Boston Comic-Con, IDW Publishing will be bringing the talented creators of Locke & Key and their collaborators, as the celebrated series opens the door on its final chapter, Locke & Key: Alpha. Boston Comic-Con will be held at the Seaport World Trade Center on August 3 – 4, and IDW will have some special surprises for the attendees!

    Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez will be appearing together for the last time before Locke & Key comes to its climactic conclusion. Joining the series creators will be IDW’s Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. Shane Leonard, the artist behind Locke & Key’s striking photo-variant covers, will also be in attendance alongside Israel Skelton, the Skelton Crew Studios mastermind behind IDW’s sellout Locke & Key replica keys. Skelton will be bringing a variety of keys including the very limited SDCC Shadow Key and select other works with him for sale at the Skelton Crew booth, next to IDW’s booth.

    In addition to the Locke & Key gang, writer Jason Ciaramella (The Cape, Thumbprint) and Hill’s newest collaborator Charles Paul Wilson III (Wraith: Welcome To Christmasland) will also be present for two huge signings with all these amazing creators in one place! The first signing will be held on Saturday from 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm and the next, Sunday from 3:15pm – 4:30pm. To help celebrate the tremendous signing C.P. Wilson III will be bringing some menacing prints with him from the new series Wraith: Welcome To Christmasland!

    On Sunday August 4th a special Locke & Key panel will be held from 2:00pm – 2:45pm in the Waterfront Room featuring Hill, Rodriguez and Ryall as they reflect on the series and discuss the imminent harrowing future for the Lockes! A can’t-miss panel at a can’t-miss convention!

    Art Portfolio Reviews at Boston Comic Con 2013

    Boston Comic Con is happy to welcome back Mark Chiarello, Art Director for DC Comics, to our 2013 convention! Mark will sit for a limited number of portfolio reviews on a first-come, first-serve basis on Saturday August 3 from 11am-12pm, 2-3pm, and 4-5pm; and on Sunday August 4 from 11am-1pm.

    Additionally, Chris Ryall, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of IDW Publishing, has also offered to sit for a one-hour art portfolio review each day of the show, on a first-come first-serve basis on Saturday August 3 from 1-2pm, and on Sunday August 4 from 1-2pm.

    Boston Comic Con Hosts Costume Contest at Faneuil Hall

    Boston Comic Con, Dick’s Last Resort, and Newbury Comics are teaming up for the first pre-convention Boston Comic Con Costume Contest, being held at Faneuil Hall Marketplace.  The contest will raise awareness and excitement about Boston Comic Con’s upcoming two-day comic book Convention to be held August 3-4 at Seaport World Trade Center.

    Contestants of all ages are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Super Hero, comic book character, and beyond (all costumes should be family friendly).  The contest will kick off with a “Costume Parade” around Quincy Market, beginning and ending at Dick’s Last Resort (Boston Comic Con will also host its annual Costume Contest “Cosplay” during the Convention on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. at the Seaport World Trade Center)

    *Prizes*

    Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be awarded.  1st place winner will receive a two, two-day passes to Boston Comic Con ($80 value) and a limited-edition T-shirt (priceless) 2nd place winner will walk away with a $100 gift certificate to Dick’s Last Resort.  3rd place winner will be awarded a $50 gift certificate to Newbury Comics.

    Costume contestants will be asked to arrive at Dick’s Last Resort at 11:45 a.m. to check in and register.  The parade will begin shortly after 12 p.m. and the final winners will be announced at 12:45 p.m.

    The event is free and open to the public.  However, space is limited and contestants will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis.  Adults and children of all ages are welcome to compete!

    JUDGING:   Judges will include representatives from Newbury Comics at Faneuil Hall, Faneuil Hall Marketplace  and Boston Comic Con.

    The 7th Annual Boston Comic Con on Aug. 3-4 at the Seaport World Trade Center features celebrity appearances by Laurie Holden of “The Walking Dead,” Kristen Bauer of “True Blood,” and actors Aidan Turner and Dean O’Gorman of “The Hobbit,” as well as The Artist Alley with over 200 well-known and local guest comic book creators and comic book merchants from across the Northeast.     Hobbit Stars Journey into Boston Comic Con 2013

    Actors Aidan Turner and Dean O’Gorman, who play the dwarves Kili and Fili respectively in The Hobbit movies, appear at Boston Comic Con on August 3-4, 2013 to meet their fans and sign autographs! We are ecstatic to bring these popular stars to the US for a rare appearance! Autographs are $40 each.

    Aidan Turner is an Irish actor best known in the US for playing the vampire John Mitchell in the original BBC supernatural drama Being Human. His television career began with a guest appearance on The Tudors and led to roles on Desperate Romantics and The Clinic. He will soon appear as Luke Garroway in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones feature film, due to be released in July 2013.

    Dean O’Gorman has played several roles in his native New Zealand including appearances on Hercules and Xena.  Plus he starred as Iolaus opposite Ryan Gosling in Young Hercules. Additionally he has made multiple guest appearances on several television shows including The Cult, Go Girls, and Legend of the Seeker, and currently plays the role of Anders Johnson in New Zealand fantasy series The Almighty Johnsons.

    Boston Comic Con thanks all our fans who supported us by demonstrating the highest degree of patience and  understanding imaginable during a very challenging time for all of us. And we want to reward you, our fans, by putting on an even bigger and better show than originally planned! The new, rescheduled date will be AUGUST 3-4, 2013!!

    We’re moving! The Seaport World Trade Center is the new home of Boston Comic Con! It features more parking as well as access to the Silver Line on Boston’s historic waterfront.

    We have reconfirmed our major comic book creator guests (who have all been wonderfully supportive of us).  Let’s welcome back… George Perez, Mike Mignola, Mark Bagley, Bill Willingham, Tony Daniel, Ed McGuinness, Tim Sale, Steve Niles, Colleen Doran, Aaron Lopresti, Don Rosa, William Stout, Amy Reeder, David Mack, Mike Choi, and Joe Eisma!  And we’re still re-confirming!

    And guess what… we are adding even more guests as the support for Boston Comic Con keeps pouring in from comic book creators all over the country. Let’s give a Boston welcome to… Dan Didio, Phil Jimenez, Brian Azzarello, Dave Johnson, Dan Panosian, Cully Hamner, Barry Kitson, Paul Gulacy, James O’Barr, Howard Chaykin, and Michael Golden!     As a reminder, advance tickets purchased online for the original show date will be GOOD for the rescheduled show.  And if for any reason you can’t make it to the show in August, please submit a refund request through Eventbrite and you will be refunded.
