CA – Slam! Vol. 1 Launch Party

Join BOOM! Studios for this unique meet & greet event with the SFV Roller Derby team to celebrate Slam! Vol. 1 on Sunday, August 20th at 4:00 PM.

From the first day of Fresh Meat Orientation for the Eastside Roller Girls, Jennifer and Maisie knew they’d be fast friends. But when they’re drafted by different teams, the pull of competition – and their increasingly messy personal lives – threaten to drive them apart. In roller derby you take your hits, get back up and learn how to be a better jammer, a better blocker, a better love, and better friend. Derby can heal your heart… but it might break a bone or two in the process.

In the fast-paced, hard-hitting, super cheeky, all-female world of banked track roller derby, two young women will have to decide if their budding friendship is stronger than the pull of a team when a win is on the line. When life starts coming at you like a freight train, you have two options: run away screaming or lean into the hit.

Wristbands will be issued on a first come, first serve basis to customers who purchase Slam! Vol 1 from Barnes & Noble at The Grove beginning August 20th at 9am. Wristbanded guest will have priority access for this event

2017 Ringo Awards Final Ballot Announced

Press Release:

The 2017 Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards are to be presented on the evening of Saturday, September 23, 2017 as part of the fan- and pro-favorite convention, the Baltimore Comic-Con. The Ringo Awards has completed the 2017 nomination process, which was inclusive of fans and comic book professionals alike, and both communities showed strong support, both in talking about us on their websites, blogs, and social media feeds, and by submitting their nominations.

With the nomination deadline looming, we continued to see significant volume each day, and determined we needed to extend our original voting deadline to accommodate as many interested participants as we reasonably could without adversely impacting our ability to release and provide sufficient voting time for the final ballot. The augmentation in participation during the nomination extension ended up being significant.

Voting on the 2017 Final Ballot is restricted to comic book industry creative community — anyone involved in and credited with creating comics professionally. We now present the inaugural Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards Final Ballot.

BOOM! Studios Brings Tyson Hesse’s Diesel: Gear Shift Special to SDCC 2017

Press Release:

BOOM! Studios is excited to announce the return of Dee Diesel in TYSON HESSE’S DIESEL: GEAR SHIFT SPECIAL, an all-new follow-up to the BOOM! Box imprint’s most successful original graphic novel. The one-shot will debut in comic shops in October.

“I can’t wait to continue telling Dee’s story as she faces a new world of danger and takes on real responsibilities for the first time,” says Hesse. “Gear Shift takes Dee and her crew in a totally new direction that I think fans of the first story will really enjoy!”

Dee’s journey first began on Tyson Hesse’s (Boxer Hockey) personal blog, when Dee and her fellow Peacetowne inhabitants were featured as original character designs. Inspired by “adventure manga like One Piece and stories about burgeoning friendships like How to Train Your Dragon,” Hesse created Dee, a young girl with an airship trying to live up to the legacy of her father, a world-famous pilot. Since then, Dee and her friends have gained a huge cult following and were first published in print via BOOM! Studios as a limited series in 2015 and an original graphic novel in 2016, Tyler Hesse’s Diesel: Ignition, which drew wide acclaim.

Diesel: Gear Shift picks up right where Diesel: Ignition left off,” explains Hesse. “It’s a chance for fans of the first graphic novel to jump right in to the next story arc right away. Dee and Bull Diesel have reconnected with their lost crew and are on their way back home to regroup and prepare for the long journey ahead.  But when they get back to Peacetowne, they uncover new clues that set them off in search of other Diesel brothers that could have answers to all their questions.”

Diesel feels both completely fresh and totally timeless,” says BOOM! Studios Editor Shannon Watters. “Dee’s story is one that Tyson has held close to his heart for years, and it shows in the care and joy bursting from every page.”

Tyson Hesse’s Diesel: Gear Shift Special is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ critically acclaimed BOOM! Box imprint, home to popular original series such as Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooke A. Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; The Backstagers by James Tynion IV and Rian Sygh; SLAM! by Pamela Ribon and Veronica Fish; and Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams.

Print copies of Tyson Hesse’s Diesel: Gear Shift Special are available for sale in October at local comic book shops (to find a shop near you, visit comicshoplocator.com) or through the BOOM! Studios webstore, and digital copies can be purchased from content providers including comiXology, Kindle, iTunes, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.
