CA – Catwoman Signs

Julie Newmar discusses and signs The Conscious Catwoman Explains Life On Earth on October 5 at 7:00pm!

From the original Catwoman come The Conscious Catwoman Explains Life on Earth, a book in which you read a phrase and pause… read another phrase and take a breath… read more and then cry a little. This is a compilation of wonderful tid bits of information, inspirational thoughts, and practical advice for daily living that Julie has collected and experienced over her lifetime, and she is sharing with the reader. Julie was trying to create that perfect little “how to” book to place on the bedside table – the one that would empower others to be the very best they can be.

As most all individuals do, we searched for role models who defined the vision of what we would like to one day be and we set our minds on emulating them. The tall, statuesque, graceful and powerful woman, Julie Newmar, inspired many. Not only in physical appearance, but as an entrepeneur in LA real-estate and inventor, developing “Nudemar” panty-hose. In 2009, the Smithsonian Institute inducted her famous and original Cat Woman suit into its permanent Entertainment Exhibit collection making her one of the nine Legendary Ladies of Stage and Screen to be included. Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon’s movies have made over a billion dollars at the box office—and now they show you how to do it yourself! This book is full of secret insider information about how to conquer the Hollywood studio system: how to write, pitch, structure, and get drunk with the best of them. Well . . . maybe not the best of them, but certainly the most successful of them. (If you’re aiming to win an Oscar, this is not the book for you!) But if you can type a little, and can read and speak English—then you too can start turning your words into $TACK$ OF MONEY!

This is the only screenwriting book you will ever need because all the other ones pretty much suck.

CA – Do The Right Thing Signing

Spike Lee signs at Book Soup on Sunday January 9, 2010 at 3:00pm.

Celebrating just more than 20 years since its seminal debut, Do The Right Thing remains one of the most important and controversial films of its era. Employing director Spike Lee’s hometown of Brooklyn as the essential setting, this explosive film masterfully explores race and class relationships. Both a critical and popular success, Do The Right Thing became a landmark film that brought serious issues in the African American community to light and established Lee as a major director in American cinema. Lee also wrote the screenplay, produced, and even starred in this deeply personal film, which was applauded for its commanding visuals provided by Danny Aiello and John Turturro, and an assertive soundtrack featuring Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power.”
Including an unprecedented insider’s look at the film, with behind-the-scenes visuals and interviews, this impressive book celebrates the impact of Do The Right Thing on our culture throughout the years. The film is even credited with bringing President Barack Obama and the First Lady together on their first date!

About the Authors:
SPIKE LEE is a writer, director, actor, producer and author who revolutionized the role of black talent in cinema. Widely regarded as a premiere African-American filmmaker, Lee is a forerunner in the ‘do it yourself’ school of independent film.

Lee’s most recent theatrical release is Miracle at St Anna, and other critical and box office successes have included Inside Man, 25th Hour, and Summer of Sam. Many of Lee’s films have earned various awards and nominations, including his 1989 film, Do the Right Thing, which garnered an Academy Award® nomination for Best Original Screenplay and Best Film and Director awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, and raised in Brooklyn, Lee returned to the south to attend Morehouse College. After graduation, Lee continued his education at New York University where he received his Master of Fine Arts Degree in film production. Lee then founded 40 Acres and Mule Filmworks based in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn. Since 2002, Lee has been Artistic Director of the Graduate Film Program at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
