Comments Off on NC – Womanthology Launch Party
Ming Doyle, Janet Lee, and Chrissie Zullo sign at Acme Comics on Saturday February 18, 2012 from 11am – 5pm!
To get behind the release of the grassroots Womanthology original graphic novel from IDW Publishing, we’ve invited out a few of our favorite creators from the over 150 female editors, artists, writers, inkers, colorists and letterers whose commitment made this project possible! So be sure to come by and meet Ming Doyle (Fantastic Four #600), Janet Lee (Return of the Dapper Men), and Chrissie Zullo (Fables: Cinderella)!
The signing will start at 11 AM. Then we’ll break for lunch and head over to Bennett College near downtown Greensboro for a very special event (more details to come soon). Then it will be back to Acme for more signing, sketching and joy until 5 PM!

From Womanthology’s BlogSpot:
Womanthology is an anthology graphic novel created entirely by women for Charity. The purpose of the book is to showcase the works of female creators of every age and experience levels.
The Graphic Novel will majorly consist of many short stories interpreting our theme for this volume; “Heroic”. We’ll also have interviews and how-to’s with some of the industry’s top female pros, as well as talks with young girls who someday want a career in comics.
Our charity is the Global Giving Foundation. They are a website dedicated to helping small charities from all over the world find funding. Once the book is finished, our profits will go to as many of these charities as we can help, focusing on one at a time until their funding goal is met.
Ming Doyle was born in Boston to an Irish American sailor and a Chinese Canadian librarian. In 2007 she earned her BFA from Cornell University with a dual concentration in painting and drawing and has been working as a freelance illustrator and comic book artist ever since. In the past few years she’s depicted the sequential exploits of vengeful cowboys and ghostly schoolgirls for Image, zombie superheroes and demonic cheerleaders for BOOM!, and Inhuman royalty and dapper blue-furred mutants for Marvel. Her first full-length graphic novel, TANTALIZE: KIEREN’S STORY, written by Cynthia Leitich Smith and published by Candlewick Press, is out now.
Nashville-based illustrator Janet Lee has been working as a commercial artist for the past six years. Self-taught, Janet made her first foray into illustration with the Twitter serial, “Diary of a Mad Scientist Garden Gnome” by New York Times bestselling author Alethea Kontis. She followed that by co-creating Return of the Dapper Men with writer Jim McCann which won the 2011 Eisner Award for Best New Graphic Album, received glowing reviews in USA Today, MTVGeek Guide, and was featured in the 2010 Holiday Gift Guides for Publisher’s Weekly, USA Today, and the New York Times. Janet and Jim are working on the sequel, Time of the Dapper Men which will be published Fall, 2012. Most recently Janet has worked for Marvel Entertainment, illustrating serialized adaptations of Jane Austen’s classic novels. Emma and Northanger Abbey.
Janet lives in East Nashville with her husband, novelist Mike Lee, her son Ethan, one very sweet pitt bull named Odie, and one very bad cat named Pye.
Chrissie Zullo was born in Montreal, Canada. In 2008 she graduated with a BFA in Illustration from UNC Charlotte, and got her first job working for Vertigo/DC not long after. She has done the covers for the comics “Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love”, and “Cinderella: Fables are Forever”, as well as interior work for “Madame Xanadu”, and “Fables”. She has also worked outside of comics, illustrating a piece for a “John Carter of Mars” book as well as Star Wars sketch cards. She has been featured in Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantasy Art for the past two years. She currently resides in New York City.
