Spend your Sunday afternoons learning from the best at the Nerdist Writing Series! Join moderator Ben Blacker as he hosts esteemed panelists discussing topics like different types of writing, how they got started, what inspires them, the business side of writing, and more. Panelists will also answer your questions and give some helpful tips and tricks! This series is a must for any hopeful writer in LA, with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit 826LA.
Ben Blacker (moderator), with his writing and producing partner–named Ben Acker–is the creator of The Thrilling Adventure Hour, a monthly staged production and podcast in the style of old-time radio, starring lots of actors you know from television. Acker and Blacker have developed pilots for Fox late night, Nickelodeon, USA, and Fox primetime. They wrote the feature film Drones, a sci-fi rom-com, available on DVD and Showtime in Sept 2011. Ernie Hudson Headlines December’s Steel City Con

GHOSTBUSTERS STAR ERNIE HUDSON TO HEADLINE STEEL CITY CON!
Pittsburgh, — Orangestone Promotions, Inc., promoters of the Steel City Con (http://www.steelcitycon.com) are celebrating 20 years as Pennsylvania’s Largest Toy and Pop Culture convention this December 4-6, 2009 at the Monroeville Convention Center. The celebrity guest list continues to build as Pittsburgh gets ready to host a national level show. In addition to a massive selection of toys and comic books, attendees will be treated to signing appearances by many pop culture icons. Ghostbusters fans will be able to meet Ernie Hudson who portrayed “Winston” in Ghostbusters 1 & 2. Wrestling fans will be treated to a rare appearance of Kevin Nash who is a Wrestling Legend and TNA Superstar. Wrestling fans will also have an opportunity to meet Traci Brooks and So Cal Val which are both wrestlers for TNA. Star Wars fans will be treated to special signing appearance by Peter Mayhew who portrayed “Chewbacca” in the Star Wars films. Ghost Hunter International fans will be able to meet Robb Demarest who is the lead investigator of the TV series. Sci Fi fans will be able to meet Luciana Carro of Battlestar Galactica. Carro will also have a role in the upcoming TV series Caprica which is the spin off from Battlestar Galactica. Horror fans will be able to meet C.J. Graham who portrayed “Jason” in Friday the 13th. Additionally attendees can expect to see a large number of Comic Book Artists and Illustrators.
In addition to Celebrity appearances, the Steel City Con is proud to announce that the first 1,000 attendees who purchase a 3 Day Pass will receive a Goodie Bag which is filled with toys and comics valued at more than the price of admission. 3 Day Pass Holders will also receive Early Admission. The Steel City Con is the only convention in the United States that has consistently given away thousands of toys, comic books and collectibles to its attendees for free.

Cast Members of the Twilight Saga: New Moon, Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica; Pop Icons William Shatner, Adam West, Billy Dee Williams, and Linda Hamilton; Sports Stars Yogi Berra, Ric Flair, Joe Frazier, Pete Rose and Dwight Gooden all participating in the New York City area’s largest consumer pop culture event of 2009
(THE BIG APPLE, October 12, 2009) Over 500 exhibitors from toys and video games to action figures, sports and entertainment will converge on Pier 94 this coming weekend for Big Apple Comic Con, the tri-state area’s largest pop culture festival.
“Whether you are a fan of comic books, movies, television, toys, video games, sports, music or more, there is something here for everyone. This is an affordable weekend of fun for the whole family,” said Big Apple Comic Con Producer Gareb Shamus.
Brands ranging from Hasbro and LEGO to Nintendo, Warner Bros. and THQ are on hand displaying new products and conducting competitions and contests. Additionally, over 250 celebrities from hit movies and TV shows like Batman, Star Wars, The Sopranos, X-Men, The Dukes of Hazzard and The Terminator are on hand along with stars from current hit shows like Battlestar Galactica, American Idol, Survivor, Dollhouse, Warehouse 13, The Real Housewives of New Jersey and Smallville to speak with fans, conduct seminars and sign autographs. Hundreds of comic book illustrators and vendors are also appearing live, and there will be a Halloween costume contest for participants of all ages.
It is anticipated that tens of thousands of people will attend the three day event, which opens Friday at noon and will run until Sunday at five. There are also a number of after hours VIP events featuring movie screenings, meet and greets, as well as musical performances by Grammy Award Winning artists Naughty By Nature (Friday night) and Taylor Dayne (Saturday night).

Edward James Olmos screens new film on Sept 26th
LOS ANGELES – Actor Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Blade Runner) makes a special appearance for the screening of the documentary short Dig Comics at Los Angeles’ premiere comic book store Meltdown Comics.
Also joining Olmos for a post-screening Q & A will be Miguel Cima, the writer/director/host of Dig Comics along with members of the cast and crew.
Both a love letter to the American art form of comics and a call to arms to increase the dwindling audience, Dig Comics has already won the attention of Edward James Olmos’ company Olmos Productions, which has agreed to produce a long-form full-length Dig Comics. Olmos believes that as a medium, comic books not only increase literacy but also serves as an inspirational learning tool for both students and teachers.
Dig Comics won Best Documentary at the San Diego Comic-Con International: Independent Film Festival, and has been selected for screenings at the Vancouver International Film Festival, the Tucson Film and Music Festival, and the Royal Flush Film Festival in New York City. It also recently screened at the Downtown Film Festival: Los Angeles.
