Ed Brubaker and Darwyn Cooke appear at the Bloor Cinema on Saturday May 10th at 5:00 pm for a screening. A signing will follow at the Beguiling!
Join two of comics’ greatest crime noir authors and Featured Guests of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, Ed Brubaker (Criminal, Fatale) and Darwyn Cooke (Parker, Selina’s Big Score), in a special evening of comics and noir! The two will discuss their work and influences with special guest interviewer Cameron Ashley (Crime Factor), and they’ll cover their love of all things down, dirty, and mean. Cooke and Brubaker will then introduce a special screening of one of their favourite crime films, Stanley Kubrick’s The Killing. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door, and are available now online at the link…
His first feature film, Kubrick’s The Killing chronicles a racetrack heist that goes terribly wrong. Widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s greatest noir achievements, The Killing has influenced generations of crime writers, including Brubaker and Cooke.
Admission to this event is $7 in advance, $10 at the door. The doors for the event will open at 5:00 pm, with the talk beginning at 5:30 pm. If you’re buying through Eventbrite, you will be able to have your ticket verified and exchanged for a general-admission ticket at the theatre beginning at 4:00 pm. Please arrive early and bring a printed ticket to speed entry.
A signing session with both authors will follow the screening. It will be held at The Beguiling Books & Art, 601 Markham Street, a short distance from the event space.

DC Entertainment (DCE) will mark the 75th anniversary of its iconic Batman character at WonderCon 2014 with an impressive line-up of can’t-miss reveals and exclusives sure to thrill fans of the world’s most popular Super Hero.
A special highlight of DCE’s WonderCon activities will be the Batman 75th Anniversary Panel scheduled for Saturday, April 19 at 4 pm. The exclusive event brings together a stunning collection of superstar talent heavily influenced by the legendary Dark Knight and his rich 75-year history. DCE co-publisher and renowned Batman artist Jim Lee will join the all-star celebrity duo and writers of the forthcoming BATMAN ’66 MEETS THE GREEN HORNET mini-series Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mallrats) and Ralph Garman (Family Guy, KROQ radio personality), the legendary voice of Batman Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series, Batman: Arkham Knight), Peter Girardi, SVP – Creative Affairs, Warner Bros Animation and groundbreaking Batman animator Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series) in a fascinating discussion about the celebrated Super Hero. The must-see panel will also feature an exclusive premiere of an animated short from Darwyn Cooke, inspired by the Batman Beyond series.
In addition, DCE will join Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation for special events including:

- A special screening of an all-new episode of Teen Titans Go! Scheduled for Friday at 2:00 pm, go behind the scenes of the fan-favorite series with a panel featuring the show’s producers and members of the voice cast.
- Son of Batman and Teen Titans Go! select voice cast signings will be held at the DCE booth (wristbands required). The Teen Titans Go! signing will take place on Friday at 1:30pm and signings for Son of Batman will take place on Friday at 3:30pm.

Concept Design for Comic Books – Comic and concept artist Steven Sanders has designed a number of characters and locations for Marvel Entertainment, among other companies. Using examples from Marvel, he’ll explain how concept design in comics is different than concept design in video games or film, and will show what is needed to make good designs for comics. – ROOM 2502 (Lower Level)
50 Years of GI Joe – the first action figure – A history of GI Joe, the world’s first action figure, from its beginnings 50 years ago in 1964, to the present day. We will discuss the evolution of the brand from a 12 inch everyman solider to a modern team of hundreds of small action figures, as well as several odd and interesting detours and off-shoots along the way. We also will cover the brand’s current fandom, including online resources and fan projects. – ROOM 2503 (Lower Level)
