Ulises Farinas, Douglas Wolk, and Ryan Hill sign at Floating World Comics on Wednesday January 15th, 2014 from 6:00 till 8:00pm!

Press Release:

This January, duty calls Judge Dredd to the West Coast, in the destructive new miniseries Mega-City Two: City of Courts! With a truly unique creative team on Mega-City Two, Dredd will go up against the unfamiliar and depraved like never before! Join creators Douglas Wolk and Ulises Farinas on Wednesday, January 15th for a book release and signing of the first issue of this awesome new miniseries.

Mega-City Two marks the comics-writing debut of Eisner Award-winning journalist and Dredd aficionado Douglas Wolk (Reading Comics). Art chores will be handled by powerhouse Ulises Farinas (TRANSFORMERS: Heart of Darkness, Catalyst Comix), whose precise linework showcases the oddities of Judge Dredd’s world in stunning detail. Rounding out the creative team, colorist Ryan Hill brings the incredible structure in Farinas’ work to life.

In the year 2094, a secret mission puts Dredd behind the wheel of a Lawcruiser in Mega-City Two, the West Coast megalopolis that sprawls around what was once Los Angeles. And he’s about to discover that the rules—and the laws—are very different in a city where image is everything…

“Ulises, Ryan and I are going to show you a vision of Dredd’s world that you’ve never seen before,” Wolk says. “We’re yanking the East Coast’s toughest lawman out of his element, and plunging him into the bizarre, sunlit depths of post-apocalyptic California. There’ll be studio stars and cycle cultists, cartoon predators and beachfront terrors—plus, of course, ultraviolence, musical numbers and the occasional thrill-powered salute to Joan Didion.”

“Mega-City Two remains a criminally underexplored facet of Dredd’s world,” said 2000A.D./Rebellion Editor-in-chief, Matt Smith, “and Doug and Ulises are having a ball crafting an environment, not only geographically, but ideologically the opposite of MC-1. Dredd is the proverbial fish out of water, and a lot of the fun comes from seeing that East Coast mentality clash with the laid-back attitudes of MC-2. Dredd fans shouldn’t miss this really quite unique mini-series.”

This is a limited capacity event for fans who purchase WWE® Superstars #1, and Midtown Comics advises attendees to arrive early, and dress appropriately for cold weather.

During his Hall of Fame career, three-time WWE® champion Mick Foley became one of WWE’s most unlikely success stories under the guise of three distinct personas — the unpredictable Cactus Jack, the demented hippy known as Dude Love and everyone’s favorite mental patient, Mankind. Today, Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy goes by the name on his birth certificate and is retired from the ring. The adventurous spirit that captured the hearts of fans worldwide, however, shines through in his various creative endeavors. In addition to spending time with his wife and four children, the Hardcore Legend can be found working with several charitable initiatives, delivering one-liners in his live comedy show Tales From Wrestling Past, and immersing himself in his writing. He is the author of an insightful, New York Times-bestselling autobiography “Have a Nice Day: A Tale of Blood and Sweatsocks,” three additional memoirs, four children’s books (Two of which were illustrated by Jill Thompson, another illustrated by Jerry “The King” Lawler), two fiction novels, and now this exciting new comic series WWE® Superstars.

CA – Talkin Toons LIVE

Get tickets at the link!

Press Release:

The world-famous Hollywood Improv is proud to invite you to join Emmy and Annie award winner Rob Paulsen as he talks about his experiences in voice acting!

Laraine Newman is a comedienne, actress, writer and was part of the original cast of Saturday Night Live! She’s been in Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage and has provided voices in Wreck-It Ralph, Wall-E, Toy Story 3, Ponyo, Surf’s Up, Monsters, Inc. and more!

Tress MacNeille is best known for providing various voices in the animated series The Simpsons, Futurama, Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers and more! Her list of video game roles include Kingdom Hearts games, Escape from Monkey Island, The Simpsons Game, and countless others!

About Rob Paulsen:
Born in Detroit, Rob Paulsen spent his childhood in Livonia and Rochester, attending Junior and Senior high school in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Rob loved cartoons like most kids but aspired to be a professional hockey player. “Fortunately, thanks to some big, strong, kid from Winnipeg who drilled me so hard my ears are still ringing, I learned around age 18 I had neither the talent nor the temperament to make a living playing hockey. So, I turned to my other passions: singing and acting.”

The goal of bringing absolute believability to a fictional character, live-action or animated, is what every actor strives for. Those who are committed to their career and who combine experience, passion and skill are likely to succeed.

Those gifted with exceptional talent who focus on maximizing their potential by finding their own niche, quickly break away from the pack. After years of honing their craft and consistently delivering memorable performances in which the character impacts an indelible image on the viewer, the public and the industry take notice, singling out the best.

“I’m getting paid to do what I got in trouble for in the 7th grade,” jests Rob, who won a Daytime Emmy in 1999 as “Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program” for Pinky and The Brain (Warner Bros.) Though nominated twice previously, the victory was especially sweet due to some formidable competition – fellow nominees Louie Anderson, Ernest Borgnine, Dennis Franz and Jeffery Tambor. In addition to his Emmy, Rob won back-to-back Annie Awards in 1997 and 1998. “I absolutely love what I do and thank my lucky stars for twenty-five years of full-time employment in this business,” he says.

“It’s a treat to portray a complex character,” Rob explains about Pinky, a goof-ball mouse with funny teeth, a head filled with clouds and an inane imagination that is punctuated with a staccato laugh. “Besides … where else could I find a job where emotional outbursts and odd exclamations like ‘Egad!,’ ‘Narf!,’ ‘Poit!,’ ‘Splonk!,’ and ‘Zort!’ are allowed and in fact, encouraged?” With over 2,000 half-hours of animation to his credit, Rob’s versatility shines in his starring roles as the voices of Yakko, Pinky and Dr. Scratch ‘n’ Sniff in the Peabody and two-time Emmy award-winning series “Animaniacs.”

Some of Rob’s other well-known animated characters include Raphael of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Arthur in “The Tick,” the title role in “The Mask” (for a WHOLE lot less dough than Mr. Carrey, thank you), the title role in “Mighty Max,” Carl Wheezer in “Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius,” Jack Fenton in “Danny Phantom,” Bobble in the “Tinkerbell” series of DVDs and hopefully more to come.

Paulsen’s extensive credits include on-camera roles in numerous motion pictures including Body Double, Stewardess School, Eyes of Fire, The Perfect Match, and Warlocked. His television acting credits include guest-starring roles on MacGyver and St. Elsewhere. Additionally, he is one of the most sought-after voice actors in the commercial arena, performing in over 1000 commercial spots.

As passionate about “paying it forward” as he is about his lucrative career, Rob supports various charitable organizations, particularly those benefiting children and military veterans. Rob’s volunteer work with GOALmodels has been particularly rewarding. GOALmodels, a high school program in Reseda, California, is designed to inspire 9th graders to set goals and overcome obstacles in life. Blending his life experiences with passion for his work, his presentations are informative, entertaining and inspiring. In his leisure time, Rob enjoys golf, riding his motorcycle and occasionally lacing up his skates for another chance to relive his past glory on the rink. He spends the majority of his free time with his wife, Parrish, and their two Yorkshire terriers, Pooshie and Tala.

Joe Sacco and Gene Luen Yang speak in conversation with Charles Hatfield, author and professor of English, CSUN, on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 7:15 PM at the Los Angeles Public Library!

Hailed as the creator of war reportage comics, Joe Sacco uses darkly funny short form comics to recount conflicts, including his latest book The Great War, an illustrated panorama of the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Gene Luen Yang, author of the acclaimed graphic novel American Born Chinese, brings clear-eyed storytelling and magical realism to tell parallel stories of two young people caught up on opposite sides of China’s violent Boxer Rebellion in his new work, Boxers and Saints. Join these two daring writers for a conversation on how the graphic novel and graphic non fiction —rising from the frontlines of popular culture—can serve our understanding of history.

Joe Sacco’s acclaimed books include Palestine, which was serialized as a comic book from 1993 to 1995, the first collection of which won an American Book Award in 1996; Safe Area Gorazde, and Footnotes in Gaza, as well as a best-selling collaboration with Chris Hedges, Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt.

Gene Luen Yang began drawing comic books in the fifth grade. He was an established figure in the indie comics scene when he published his first book with graphic novel publisher First Second, American Born Chinese, which is now in print in over ten languages. Yang won the Printz Award and was a finalist for the National Book Award. His latest book is the graphic novel diptych Boxers & Saints.

Charles Hatfield, Professor of English at California State University, Northridge, teaches on comics, children’s literature, media, and cultural studies. He is the author of Hand of Fire: The Comics Art of Jack Kirby and Alternative Comics: An Emerging Literature and co-editor of the newly released The Superhero Reader.

Gene Luen Yang and M.T. Anderson appear at the Brattle Theatre on Thursday November 21st at 6:00 pm!

Tickets are $5.00

RSVP on Facebook!

Press Release:

Harvard Book Store is pleased to welcome GENE LUEN YANG, National Book Award finalist and Printz Prize–winning graphic novelist, and award-winning young adult novelist M.T. ANDERSON for a discussion of Yang’s latest graphic novels, Boxers & Saints.

In two volumes, Boxers & Saints tells two parallel stories. The first is of Little Bao, a Chinese peasant boy whose village is abused and plundered by Westerners claiming the role of missionaries. Little Bao, inspired by visions of the Chinese gods, joins a violent uprising against the Western interlopers. Against all odds, their grass-roots rebellion is successful.

But in the second volume, Yang lays out the opposite side of the conflict. A girl whose village has no place for her is taken in by Christian missionaries and finds, for the first time, a home with them. As the Boxer Rebellion gains momentum, she must decide whether to abandon her Christian friends or to commit herself fully to Christianity.

**UPDATE** The Walking Dead’s Steven Yuen joins the panel for the debut of his performance as Wan, the original Avatar! Voice-actors PJ Byrne (Bolin) and Janet Varney (Korra herself!)  have been added to the lineup! Plus there will be an NYCC exclusive poster. And a screening of the episodes “Beginnings: Part One,” which introduces the original avatar Wan! More details via Korra Nation!

Join Executive Producer Bryan Konietzko and Co-Executive Producer Joaquim Dos Santos at New York Comic Con on Saturday October 12, 2013 at 11am as they pull back the curtain to reveal sneak peeks of what’s to come in Legend of Korra Book 2: Spirits. Exclusive artwork, never-before-seen footage, and a discussion with special guests from the incredible “The Legend of Korra voice cast will be featured! Moderated by Bryan Konietzko.

Konietzko says on his Tumblr: “It’s just like San Diego Comic-Con, minus the hyphen! It has been a long time since we made it out to a convention other than SDCC, and we know that fact bums out a lot of non-SoCal/SoCal-accessible fans. We wish that we could venture out more, but even just prepping for and visiting San Diego once a year takes a lot of time out of our jam-packed production schedule, so traveling even further for conventions is usually not an option. But we’re going to make it happen anyway for NYCC, and we’re really looking forward to it!

Unfortunately Mike can’t make it, but Joaquim and I will be joined by some special guests at the panel Saturday, October 12th at 11:00 am. Lots of cool stuff in the works for the presentation. We’re putting together a signing on that Saturday too, so I’ll update with more info when I have it.

See you East Coasters soon!

Location: Empire Stage 1-E Presented By: Arizona Beverage Co.
