Montreal Comiccon 2017 Hosts David Tennant, Nathan Fillion & Many More

Press Release:

Montreal Comiccon is a pop-culture fan convention that showcases artists and products from entertainment genres like: Sci-fi, Horror, Anime, Gaming in all its forms, and, of course, bande dessinée and comic books. It features a large array of exhibits with several companies demonstrating their wares and a few vehicles or set pieces from film or television are on display, a shopping experience like no other, aimed at fans that are looking for games, T-Shirts, comics, toys, statues, DVDs/Blu-rays, replicas and more collector items.

Fans have the opportunity come to meet their favorite creators from the world of comics and BD, get their autographs, buy a sketch or thank them for their work. Additionally, one of the biggest draws, fans get to meet the personalities behind their favorite TV shows and movies. Celebrities participate in autograph sessions, photo opportunities and Q&As that accommodate between 700 and 3000 fans.

Fans are encouraged (but not obliged) to come dressed as their favorite pop culture characters, be they from movies, TV, video games or comics. It culminates at the Masquerade, the big costuming competition that brings in judges from across the globe, over 60 competitors, and close to 3000 fans to cheer them on when they hit the big stage.

Over the course of three days, fans are treated to over 100 different panel discussions and workshops that help further promote comics, costuming, gaming and pop culture in general. A gaming zone for fans to discover new game demos, participate in tourneys or simply enjoy some free-play. Video games are feature for both indie games and AAA studios with demos and eSports tournaments. Screenings for short and feature films are presented that include fans films, as well as independent and studio productions.

Montreal Comiccon is proud to announce a strong starter line-up focused on fans favourite franchises.

Nathan Fillion is best known to Firefly enthusiast as Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a role he reprised in the 2005 film Serenity – though most recently was the star of the hit series Castle.

David Tennant is loved by legions of fans for his role as the 10th Doctor on the international hit series Doctor Who. Since then, he’s had a successful run starring on several dramas including the BBC series Broadchurch and Netflix’s Jessica Jones.

John Rhys-Davies has had a long and varied career, starring in several TV series like Sliders and the The Shannara Chronicles, though best known for his roles as Sallah in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and, of course, Gimli, in the Lord of the Rings trilogy of films. The Harry Potter franchise has risen to the top as one of the most impactful, and we have none other than the actor who portrayed evil wizard Lucius Malfoy, Jason Isaacs, who was just announced as one of the leads on the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery.  Comiccon will also be celebrating 20 years of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with the presence of James Marsters, who played the sometimes good, mostly evil vampire, Spike. As ever, Star Wars remains one of the most adored franchise, and we’ll be bringing in the galaxy’s most infamous bounty hunter, Boba Fett, as played by actor Jeremy Bulloch.

For twenty five years, Kevin Conroy has been considered the definitive voice of Batman, starting with Batman: The Animated Series. Beyond the 85-episode run, he has been the voice of Bruce Wayne in multiple TV series, animated films, and video games, including the acclaimed video game Batman: Arkham Asylum, and will return as the Dark Knight in Injustice 2, slated for release in May 2017.

Video Games continue to dominate the entertainment market and one of the bestselling for 2016 was Ubisoft’s own Watch Dogs 2. For this year’s event, Comiccon will focus on the talented group of motion capture actors, who bring the game’s DedSec team of hackers to life:  Tasya Teles (Sitara), Shawn Baichoo (Wrench), and Jonathan Dubsky (Josh), Christopher Jacot (Dusan), John Tench (T-Bone) and Ruffin Prentiss (Marcus).

From comic books to cartoons, toys, and blockbuster films, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been a mainstay for over 30 years. We are very thrilled to welcome the co-creator of TMNT, Kevin Eastman, whom, to this day, continues to write and draw for the IDW series. Joining him will be the creator of American Flagg, Howard Chaykin, whom also has the distinction of being the very first artist on the Marvel Comics 1977 Star Wars. In addition, fans can look forward to meeting Glenn Fabry, the painter and illustrator known for his covers on Preacher, 2000 A.D., and, most recently American Gods; Marguerite Sauvage, the artist on the breakthrough Valiant comic series Faith, and also created the Montreal Comiccon 2017 poster art; plus Julien Paré-Sorel, the artist on the anxiously-awaited comic series Dans une galaxie près de chez vous, which is written by the original show creators Pierre-Yves Bernard et Claude Legault and expected to release in 2018.

Fans of costume building are in for a special treat with some of the most popular professional cosplayers. These include Italian cosplayer Leon Chiro and one of the hosts of the new TV series Cosplay Melee, LeeAnna Vamp. They’ll be there to meet fans and offer tips and tricks at their costume panels. As ever, the Masquerade costume contest will be taking place on Saturday, July 8, where amateur costume makers take to the Comiccon stage to compete in front of industry judges.

CA – Dark Night: A True Batman Story Signing

00000000000-paul-dini-dark-night

Writer Paul Dini presents and signs Dark Night: A True Batman Story at Vroman’s Bookstore on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 7:00 PM!

This is a Batman story like no other the harrowing and eloquent autobiographical tale of writer Paul Dini’s courageous struggle to overcome a desperate situation.

The Caped Crusader has been the all-abiding icon of justice and authority for generations. But in this surprising original graphic novel, we see Batman in a new light as the savior who helps a discouraged man recover from a brutal attack that left him unable to face the world.

In the 1990s, legendary writer Paul Dini had a flourishing career writing the hugely popular “Batman: The Animated Series” and “Tiny Toon Adventures.” Walking home one evening, he was jumped and viciously beaten within an inch of his life. His recovery process was arduous, hampered by the imagined antics of the villains he was writing for television including the Joker, Harley Quinn and the Penguin. But despite how bleak his circumstances were, or perhaps because of it, Dini also always imagined the Batman at his side, chivvying him along during his darkest moments.

A gripping graphic memoir of one writer’s traumatic experience and his deep connection with his creative material, Dark Night: A True Batman Story is an original graphic novel that will resonate profoundly with fans. Art by the incredible and talented Eduardo Risso (100 BULLETS, TRANSMETROPOLITAN). (Vertigo)

An accomplished musician, he has recorded and played drums for The T.V. Personalities, Nikki Sudden, Robyn Hitchcock, The Barracudas, Light A Big Fire, School Of Fish and They Eat Their Own, among others. On stage, he has won several theatre awards, including The 1992 Drama Critic’s Circle Outstanding Achievement Award for his performance in “A Cock & Bull Story”. He may be best known for his television work, as Romo Lampkin in “Battlestar Galactica”, Badger in Joss Whedon’s “Firefly”, Ivan Erwich in Day 5 of “24”, plus roles on “The X-Files”, “CSI”, “Star Trek: Voyager” and a host of other characters in film and television. RODGER BUMPASS
Rodger Bumpass

Emmy-nominated for the voice of Squidward on SpongeBob Squarepants, Rodger has been in acting for 38 years, and he’s going to keep on ’til he gets it right. In addition to Squidward, he was the voice of Professor Membrane in ‘Invader Zim’, Dr. Light in ‘Teen Titans’, Hanover Fyst in the cult favorite ‘Heavy Metal’. He has also provided various voices in many Disney and Pixar featured animated movies like ‘A Bug’s Life’, ‘Monsters Inc.’, ‘Cars’, ‘Finding Nemo’, ‘Treasure Planet’, ‘Emperor’s New Groove’, and more recently, ‘Monsters University’.  He began his career with the National Lampoon Magazine, touring the USA and falling down in the stare a lot (on purpose). He likes kitty cats and long walks on the beach, where falling doesn’t hurt as much. If you pass him in the hallway, just say “Do the voice, please,” and he will gladly comply… for the nominal price of $2.37. Cash only. He does take IOUs if they involve a kiss from a pretty girl.

J MICHAEL TATUM

Discovered by Funimation warhorse and visionary ADR director Christopher Bevins, who cast him as Rikichi in 2005’s Samurai 7, Tatum’s inexplicable luck has held long enough to see his flag hoisted on a slew of dream roles, most notably Kyoya Otori in the hit English language dub of Ouran High School Host Club, suave, demonic Sebastian Michaelis in Black Butler and the equal parts maniacal/vulnerable Okarin Rintarou from Steins;Gate. Other characters the man still can’t believe he’s had the crazy good fortune to play include: Doumeki in XXXHolic, Jiro Mochizuki in Black Blood Brothers, Isaac Dian in Baccano!, Both God Eneru and Dalton in the new dub of One Piece, Komui Lee in D-Gray Man, Dororo in Sgt. Frog, the titular loveable savage of Heroic Age, Ryosuke Takahashi in Initial D, Lawrence Kraft in Spice and Wolf, Zarbon in Dragon Ball Z Kai, Scar in Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and Sir Hammerlock in the videogame juggernaut Borderlands 2. His vocal “stylings,” much to the chagrin of drama teachers everywhere, he’s sure, have also been featured in Romeo X Juliet, Speed Grapher, Trinity Blood, Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple, Black Cat, Nabari no Ou, Ghost Hunt, School Rumble, The Tower of Druaga, Aquarion, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles, Shuffle, Shigurui, Glass Fleet, Mushishi, Soul Eater, along with feature-length films such as Vexille, Summer Wars, and Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker, among many others.

And as if being involved with so many awesome shows wasn’t enough, in late 2007 the fluky so-and-so tempted fate by officially branching out into ADR directing and adaptive scriptwriting for Funimation as well. His ADR directing credits to date include Aquarion, Jyu-oh-Sei, Romeo X Juliet, Big Windup, Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne and Shikabane Hime (Corpse Princess), while his writing credits include substantial work on Ouran High School Host Club, Heroic Age, Initial D, Blassreiter, Ga Rei: Zero, Hero Tales, Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Fractale, Deadman Wonderland, Steins;Gate and Dragon Ball Z Kai.

In early 2010 he teamed up with Terri Doty and Stephen Hoff to launch That Anime Show, a web-based chat show centered on colorful, often diabolically unhinged interviews with friends and colleagues within the dubbing industry, all episodes of which can be downloaded for free at www.thatanimeshow.com

Ever the workaholic, Tatum is currently burning the midnight oil on a number of exciting projects due for release later this year. And before you ask, the “J” stands for… Well, it stands for whatever you’d like it to.

NOAH WATTS

When Noah Watts was 9 years old, his uncle gave him a Crow name. He said, “I am going to name you, Bulaagawish, Old Bull.” His uncle put his hand on Noah’s shoulder and continued. “That’s the name Chief Plenty Coups gave your grandfather. The name refers to the buffalo bull that leads the herd. That name has good things associated with it.”

A member of the Crow tribe and descendent of the Blackfeet nation, Noah Watts grew up in Bozeman, Montana, but each summer Noah goes home to the Crow reservation to camp at Crow fair with his extended family. Excelling in baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, and skateboarding as a boy, Noah also learned to ride horses, fly fish, and snowboard living in the Rockies. As part of his connection to his Native culture, Noah has been a traditional Crow war dancer since he was 6 years old, occasionally competing in contests but more often dancing for pleasure at pow pows. He is also an accomplished guitarist.

Noah has been acting on stage since fifth grade when he played the Scarecrow in a school production of Oz. In high school Noah began developing and refining his acting skills in a variety of roles that culminated in the part of John Proctor in The Crucible. Noah also worked on his acting craft in the forum of high school speech and debate contests, putting the capstone on his high school acting career by representing Montana at the National Forensic League National Tournament. His performance of the dramatic monologue “Gas” by Jose Rivera in front of 1,500 people earned him fourth place in the national tournament. High school dramatics was a catalyst for Noah’s acting career. As a high school senior, Noah acted in two independent feature films. First, Noah was cast in The Slaughter Rule, playing Waylon Walks Along, a teenage Blackfeet youth. Just a few months later he landed a second role as Herbie Yellow Lodge in the feature film Skins directed by Chris Eyre. Portraying the son of an alcoholic father (Graham Greene), Noah had the third lead part and shared scenes with Native actors Greene and Eric Schweig. It was then Noah began to dream of a career in film. Noah graduated from high school and won a scholarship to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. After one semester at AADA, Noah was offered a part in a new Chris Eyre film entitled Skinwalkers, playing a teenage gang leader and suspected murderer, a role far different from the shy, devoted son he played in Skins. The following summer in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, he performed the lead in the Southwest Repertory Company’s production of The Indolent Boys written by N. Scott Momaday. Other projects included an appearance on Literary Stages on KCRW in Los Angeles, reading a piece by W. P. Kinsella. And in the Spring of 2005 Noah was cast in an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, entitled Kino and Teresa. He played the fierce villain Eladio (Tybalt in the original play).

Beginning with a role in the series, Sons of Anarchy, in 2009, Noah turned to television. Press Release:

The world-famous Hollywood Improv is proud to invite you to join Emmy and Annie award winner Rob Paulsen as he talks about his experiences in voice acting!

About Rob Paulsen:
Born in Detroit, Rob Paulsen spent his childhood in Livonia and Rochester, attending Junior and Senior high school in Grand Blanc, Michigan. Rob loved cartoons like most kids but aspired to be a professional hockey player. “Fortunately, thanks to some big, strong, kid from Winnipeg who drilled me so hard my ears are still ringing, I learned around age 18 I had neither the talent nor the temperament to make a living playing hockey. So, I turned to my other passions: singing and acting.”

The goal of bringing absolute believability to a fictional character, live-action or animated, is what every actor strives for. Those who are committed to their career and who combine experience, passion and skill are likely to succeed.

Those gifted with exceptional talent who focus on maximizing their potential by finding their own niche, quickly break away from the pack. After years of honing their craft and consistently delivering memorable performances in which the character impacts an indelible image on the viewer, the public and the industry take notice, singling out the best.

“I’m getting paid to do what I got in trouble for in the 7th grade,” jests Rob, who won a Daytime Emmy in 1999 as “Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program” for Pinky and The Brain (Warner Bros.) Though nominated twice previously, the victory was especially sweet due to some formidable competition – fellow nominees Louie Anderson, Ernest Borgnine, Dennis Franz and Jeffery Tambor. In addition to his Emmy, Rob won back-to-back Annie Awards in 1997 and 1998. “I absolutely love what I do and thank my lucky stars for twenty-five years of full-time employment in this business,” he says.

“It’s a treat to portray a complex character,” Rob explains about Pinky, a goof-ball mouse with funny teeth, a head filled with clouds and an inane imagination that is punctuated with a staccato laugh. “Besides … where else could I find a job where emotional outbursts and odd exclamations like ‘Egad!,’ ‘Narf!,’ ‘Poit!,’ ‘Splonk!,’ and ‘Zort!’ are allowed and in fact, encouraged?” With over 2,000 half-hours of animation to his credit, Rob’s versatility shines in his starring roles as the voices of Yakko, Pinky and Dr. Scratch ‘n’ Sniff in the Peabody and two-time Emmy award-winning series “Animaniacs.”

Some of Rob’s other well-known animated characters include Raphael of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Arthur in “The Tick,” the title role in “The Mask” (for a WHOLE lot less dough than Mr. Carrey, thank you), the title role in “Mighty Max,” Carl Wheezer in “Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius,” Jack Fenton in “Danny Phantom,” Bobble in the “Tinkerbell” series of DVDs and hopefully more to come.

Paulsen’s extensive credits include on-camera roles in numerous motion pictures including Body Double, Stewardess School, Eyes of Fire, The Perfect Match, and Warlocked. His television acting credits include guest-starring roles on MacGyver and St. Elsewhere. Additionally, he is one of the most sought-after voice actors in the commercial arena, performing in over 1000 commercial spots.

As passionate about “paying it forward” as he is about his lucrative career, Rob supports various charitable organizations, particularly those benefiting children and military veterans. Rob’s volunteer work with GOALmodels has been particularly rewarding. GOALmodels, a high school program in Reseda, California, is designed to inspire 9th graders to set goals and overcome obstacles in life. Blending his life experiences with passion for his work, his presentations are informative, entertaining and inspiring. In his leisure time, Rob enjoys golf, riding his motorcycle and occasionally lacing up his skates for another chance to relive his past glory on the rink. He spends the majority of his free time with his wife, Parrish, and their two Yorkshire terriers, Pooshie and Tala.
