On Saturday, June 30th, Rogues Gallery hosts their second annual all-ages events, featuring a whole bunch of creators who will sketch, sign and talk with kids about making comics! And, for the first time this year, kids will participate in making a comic in the store!
Our guests this year are:
Ty Templeton – Ultimate Spider-Man, Batman Adventures, Superman Adventures, lots more!
Shane & Chris Houghton – Creators of Reed Gunther, Bear-Riding Cowboy, have also worked on Boom! Studios’ Peanuts and Adventure Time books!
Chad Thomas – Worked on Archie’s Young Salem and Megaman, plus lots more!
Evan Bryce – Wide variety of comics work, art teacher and some of the wildest, coolest color prints in the universe!
Mike Bullock – Writer of hit indy all-ages book Lions, Tigers & Bears!
Yehudi Mercado – Creator of Buffalo Speedway, promoting next year’s all-ages Archaia graphic novel Pantalones, TX!
The event will run from 10 AM – 6 PM! Kids will help creators create a comic in store starting at 1 PM! Tell your friends!

Nancy Silberkleit, co-CEO of Archie Comics, reads from The Best of Archie Comics and lead kids in an interactive comic-drawing craft time on December 3, 2011 from 3-4pm! Celebrate 70 years of Archie Comics fun with The Best of Archie Comics—a massive full-color collection of over 50 favorite comic book stories hand-selected by noted Archie writers, artists, editors and historians. Also included are loads of entertaining behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the comics, their creators, and Archie’s unique impact on American pop culture. Designed for young and old alike, this is both a must-have companion for anyone who has grown up with Archie and a perfect introduction for new readers.
Nancy Silberkleit is the co-CEO of Archie Comics. Prior to running Archie Comics, Nancy was an Art teacher for the New Jersey public schools and, within the first two years at Archie, Nancy created an education division that launched Comic Book Fairs—a fundraiser and tool for raising literacy in the classroom. Her work for Comic Book Fairs addresses relevant and social issues like health and wellness, anti-bullying, and school cultural awareness.
This event is open to children of all ages. There will be a $5 fee per child for craft supplies. The event will be located in the Children’s Department on the 2nd floor. The author will be signing copies of The Best of Archie Comics after the reading.

4:00-5:00 – Spotlight on Shannon Wheeler – From stapling 21,000 mini-comics to shooting a comic book to writing an opera to doing cartoons for The New Yorker – Shannon Wheeler has just gotten started in his career in comics. Recently his collection of rejected New Yorker cartoon I THOUGHT YOU WOULD BE FUNNIER won the Eisner Award for Best Humor Publication and is up for a Harvey this weekend. Join Shannon Wheeler and his trusty sidekick BOOM! Studios Marketing Director Chip Mosher as they look back on Shannon’s meteoric rise and fall in comic books. Oh, yeah! Creators John Gallagher and Steve Conley moderate over a panel of experts, including Dan Parent (Archie), Steve Hamaker (Bone, Fish & Chips), Mike Maihack (Cleopatra in Space!), Rich Faber (Roboy Red!) and Todd Dezago (Perhapanauts, Superhero Squad). Those in attendance will get a special card allowing them to download a FREE Exclusive BUZZBOY story from John Gallagher, and one person will win the opportunity to make a cameo appearance in “Leon, Protector of the Playground,” the new all-ages graphic novel by Jamar Nicholas.

CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein delivers a gripping history of comics censorship from the 50s to today, and talks about life after the Code.

Focusing on Marc Hempel, Robert Tinnell, and Mark Wheatley, get an insider’s perspective on their inner-workings as artists and writers. Moderator, Mike Gold highlights the diversity and originality of these very different creators.
1:00-2:30 – Frank Cho Live Drawing Demonstration – Watch and be amazed as Frank Cho creates a drawing masterpiece right before your eyes. Audience will suggest one character, one action, one setting and Frank Cho will draw it in one hour on stage. Archie Comics’ Comic Book Fairs in Partnership with Fandom Advisory Network is taking a road trip across America! The Archie Comics Literacy Tour is a celebration of Archie’s storied 70 year history and a mission to promote literacy and learning through comic books. Starting at this years Comic Con in San Diego, Archie will drive across country and stop off at comic book stores, children’s bookstores, museums, and schools to run creative workshops and champion the legacy of Archie Comics through new titles and restorations of their older ones ( Archie: A Celebration of America’s Favorite Teenager). Comic Book Fairs, a division of Archie Comics, built on the mission to advocate comic books in education, will be working with schools and comic books stores to build strong connections within their community to establish Archie Comics as a learning tool for educators. We at Archie feel that comic books can be a great conduit to literacy and academic concepts, especially for reluctant readers.
The Literacy Tour will be a great trip not just for us, but for our fans past, present, and future.
