One of the most legendary horror scores ever gets recorded & reinvented for 2018. Joe LoDuca went back to the drawing board to fully re-record and expand his original score to The Evil Dead with absolutely terrifying results. The record you hold in your hands manages to keep the essence and familiarity of the original score yet feels completely new and exciting due to the addition of all new music combining the classic and the contemporary.

All new artwork by original Evil Dead Poster artist Graham Humphreys. Pressed on 2 x 180g Naturum De Montum vinyl, Necronomicon booklet containing liner notes from Composer Joe LoDuca, Producer Robert Tapert & Star Bruce Campbell. Download card included.

“EVIL DEAD was my first film commission. As fate would have it, this is the movie that has the most enduring impact on generations of fans. Every few years I get a request to release the score, and my response is the same. I own the score, but not the recording rights. So when I was last approached to reissue the score, I asked myself this question: Knowing what I now know, how would I write for that ensemble today? I am happy that I did.Welcome to my nightmare: reimagined.” – Joe LoDuca

Growing up in the rich culture of rock, jazz and classical music in Detroit, along with studies in comparative literature, Joseph LoDuca wasn’t aware he was prepping for a career composing for film.

The two- time Emmy Award winner is no stranger to large orchestral action/adventures, fantasies and thrillers. Josephʼs extensive scores for television are highlighted by Xena: Warrior Princess (Emmy winner), Legend of the Seeker (Emmy winner), and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.

His international projects include Brotherhood of the Wolf (César nominee for Best Score) and Patagonia (directed by Marc Evans), which was chosen as the 2012 British entry for the Foreign Language Oscar. The project featured song collaborations with pop artist Duffy and operatic baritone Bryn Terfel.

His multifaceted catalogue is marked by operettas, musicals and theme songs, which have earned him five of his twelve Emmy nominations. Recently, he has conducted suites of his music at the Tenerife Filmucite Festival and with the Golden State Pops Orchestra.

LoDuca also composed the music for Turner Network Televisionʼs Leverage (for Dean Devlin) director Sam Raimiʼs Evil Dead Trilogy, and the Starz Entertainment series Spartacus (produced by Raimi/Tapert/Donen and Steven DeKnight). In 2017, his broadcast and theatrical work consisted of Season 4 of TNT’s The Librarians, Season 3 of Ash v. Evil Dead for Starz, and Disjointed, a Netflix sitcom (David Javerbaum, Chuck Lorre); two feature films–Bad Samaritan (Dean Devlin), Cult of Chucky (Don Mancini); and Pleasuredome, an 80’s-themed musical.

He sums it all up: “I understand story and how to create a language of music in film. The sounds and structures I discover when I work closely with a director are what constantly surprise and inspire me.”

An eclectic mix of artists from the world of classic and contemporary punk/indie/alt-rock have assembled, along with special guest stars from film, TV and more, to pay homage to radio icon Dr. Demento (a world renowned institution who has championed novelty music and its creators since the 1970s), for this mind-blowing compilation. Over thirty different, never before released, all-new ‘punk’ cover versions of ‘mad music and crazy comedy’ songs famously heard on the airwaves of the legendary “Dr Demento Show”—have been intermixed with ‘wild card’ tracks showcasing some incredible, newly ‘demented’ versions of punk-rock classics!

The result is a uniquely original, highly entertaining, modern day homage to Dr. Demento’s classic radio show, and its undeniable impact on popular culture. This bizarro broadcast from beyond the fringe is hosted by Dr. Demento himself, offering up interesting factoids and anecdotes between songs, with celebrity guest ID spots, creatively crafted bumper segments, and more ‘demented’ surprises tying it all together into an unconventional take on the traditional radio show format. Over two-full hours, a total of 64 tracks—all created specifically for Dr. Demento Covered in Punk!

Both the two-disc CD, or three-disc vinyl LP come with an equally entertaining full-color booklet jam-packed with extensive liner notes and quotes personally written by the artists, a foreword by producer John Cafiero (Misfits, Ramones, Osaka Popstar), an Afterword by Dr. Demento, as well as facts, photos, and an array of dynamic paintings and illustrations created specifically for the project by a team of visual artists spanning the world of comic books, classic punk-rock album covers, Topps Trading card series, Mad Magazine and more.

Joined by everyone from the Misfits, Joan Jett, Fred Schneider of the B52s, to “Weird Al” Yankovic, the late Adam “Batman” West (in one of his final performances), and Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner—(to name just a few), the Doctor is in…and he’s ‘Covered in Punk’!!

About Dr. Demento: The Dr. Demento Show has been celebrating ‘mad music and crazy comedy’ on the airwaves playing everything from Spike Jones to Frank Zappa for nearly five decades. Responsible for introducing the world to its #1 most requested song of all time, “Fish Heads”, and launching the career of the most successful artist in the entire history of funny music—“Weird Al” Yankovic; the world-famous Doctor’s influence on pop culture has earned him induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame, a documentary feature film on his life and career currently in production, and even an appearance on The Simpsons.

CA – Bootsy Collins Signing

Press Release:

Otherworldly bassist and iconic funk prophet Bootsy Collins visits Amoeba Hollywood to sign copies of his new album, “World Wide Funk,” on Wednesday, January 31st at 6pm!

To attend this event and meet Bootsy, purchase “World Wide Funk” on CD or vinyl in-store only at Amoeba Hollywood on January 31st. Space is limited! He will sign copies of “World Wide Funk” purchased at Amoeba only.

“World Wide Funk” is the latest chapter in Bootsy’s lifelong dedication to “the One.” The ineffable thing that makes the funk funky emerged from the primordial ooze during teenaged William “Bootsy” Collins’ watershed year (1970-71) with James Brown. Bootsy subsequently took the One to George Clinton’s P-Funk crew – in what Brown biographer RJ Smith has called “one of history’s biggest cases of industrial espionage” – where he adapted Brown’s precision and rigor to ringleader Clinton’s ecstatic, chaotic, and prolific musical playpen. Bootsy went on to establish himself as a premier bassist, a leader of the soul-expanding mind-bending funk movement, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Collaborations on this project run the gamut from Victor Wooten and Stanley Clarke to Nashville slide-guitarist Justin Johnson to Buckethead to the late, great Bernie Worrell. Bootsy and Kali Uchis join their soulful forces on the sultry “Worth My While” and will again later this year on “When the Flowers Bloom” from Kali Uchis’ upcoming debut LP. Don’t skip the intro to the title track by Iggy Pop!

Unsurprisingly, the majority of the songs on this album are danceable but the title track “World Wide Funk” is the ultimate party-starter. “Ladies’ Night” and “Hot Saucer” keep the party going while “Come Back Bootsy” provides an outlet when you inevitably need to play some air guitar. As we probably don’t need to remind you, Boosty’s aim is to provide you with a funky space to enjoy life! He says it best, “…as long as it made you feel good & sexy, like them old house parties, sharing a coke and a smile while doing a bump and grind.”
