Press Release:
In celebration of the release of The Amazing Spider-Man™ on July 3, 2012, Columbia Pictures has partnered with some of NYC’s premier cultural institutions to create Spider-Man Week in NYC, a seven-day calendar of events in all five boroughs. The week includes a volunteer initiative as Spider-Man teams with his fellow New Yorkers to give back to their community by helping out people in need.
With special events at New York landmarks from the Empire State Building to the American Museum of Natural History to the Intrepid Sea Air & Space Museum, Spider-Man Week in NYC offers a chance to celebrate the film and the city that Spider-Man loves and protects. For a full calendar of events, fans can visit www.spidermanweeknyc.com.
Commenting on the announcement, Diahann Billings-Burford, Chief Service Officer for NYC Service, said, “NYC Service is very excited to be partnering with Sony Pictures Entertainment and the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man in a national day of service that calls on all New Yorkers to volunteer and give back to their community. There will be projects occurring throughout all five boroughs, ranging from beautifying community gardens to CPR trainings. Join us, ‘Be Amazing, Stand Up and Volunteer!’”
The week of events kicks off on Monday, June 25 with the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man appearing on the Today Show Plaza. That evening, there will be a Spider-Man event at Forbidden Planet, and the Empire State Building will light up in Spider-Man red and blue to encourage fans to Be Amazing, Stand Up and Volunteer the next day, Tuesday, June 26th. Fans can log onto www.beamazing2012.com to register for this nationwide day of volunteering, which will support Stand Up To Cancer. With the support of NYC Service, the cast of the film will join thousands of New Yorkers to volunteer at locations throughout all five boroughs.
On Wednesday, June 27, Spider-Man will deliver the first spider to The American Museum of Natural History’s newest exhibit, “SPIDERS ALIVE!”
All week long, special events have been scheduled all across the city. The Wildlife Conservation Society Zoos will feature Spider-Man themed scavenger hunts. Spider-Man will visit children at NYC-area hospitals, in partnership with Lollipop Theater Network. Madame Tussauds New York features the new Marvel Super Hero 4D experience and will offer $10 off admission; On Location Tours will give fans a chance to see some of the locations used in filming The Amazing Spider-Man with a special web-deal on their New York TV & Movie Sites tour; audiences can check out “Wild, Wonderful Spiders” at The New York Botanical Garden; the Sony Store will offer fun giveaways; and The Amazing Spider-Man programming will be featured at The Paley Center for Media. On Saturday, June 30th, kids can visit the Sony Wonder Technology Lab for a Sci-Tech Workshop on Spider-Man animation, where they will learn the basic techniques behind stop motion animation to create their very own unique Spider-Man animated short to take home. Also on Saturday, at the Skyscraper Museum, kids will find out what running a newspaper is like by producing their own special-edition illustrated paper. The week will conclude on Sunday, July 1st at Spider-Man Square on the Intrepid’s Pier 86 with fun activities and giveaways.
One of the world’s most popular characters is back on the big screen as a new chapter in the Spider-Man legacy is revealed in The Amazing Spider-Man™. Focusing on an untold story that tells a different side of the Peter Parker story, the new film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, with Martin Sheen and Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb from a screenplay written by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves from a story by James Vanderbilt, based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach are producing the film in association with Marvel Entertainment for Columbia Pictures, which will open in theaters everywhere in 3D on July 3, 2012. The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to OsCorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father’s former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors’ alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

Stan “The Man” Returns to Baltimore as 2012 Guest of Honor

Press Release:
The Baltimore Comic-Con is honored to officially announce that Stan “The Man” Lee returns as the Guest of Honor for the second year in a row at this year’s convention. The show will be taking place at the Baltimore Convention Center the weekend of September 8-9, 2012.
Lee will only be making public appearances on Saturday, September 8, 2012, signing autographs and posing for photographs with guests in attendance of the show.
“Stan’s first appearance at the Baltimore Comic-Con was an unmitigated success last year,” said Marc Nathan, show promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con. “Having him return for a second go-around is simply amazing and a great opportunity for those who missed him last year to meet a living legend in the comic industry!”
Known the world over as the architect of the Marvel Universe, Lee-along with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko-co-created some of the most iconic characters of the Silver Age, including the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Avengers, the X-Men, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Daredevil, Iron Man, and Doctor Strange.
Lee began his career in comics in 1939 at the age of 16, working for Martin Goodman at Timely Comics. He made his writing debut in 1941 with a text filler story in Captain America Comics #3 and wrote his first back-up story for the title two issues later. Lee continued to write for the publisher and, at the age of 19, was installed as interim editor. With a head for business and an eye for comics, Lee graduated to become editor-in-chief and art director of the comics division.
Throughout his illustrious career, which has spanned more than 70 years, Lee has been a writer, editor, publisher, President, and Chairman at Marvel Comics. He’s made cameo appearances in 15 films based on his creations-including this summer’s record-breaking blockbuster, The Avengers.
In October of 2011, Lee joined with 1821 Comics to the start “Stan Lee’s Kids Universe,” a multimedia comic imprint whose purpose is to produce new kids material. Most recently, he co-wrote the graphic novel, Romeo and Juliet: The War – a reimagining of the classic Shakespeare tale with a sci-fi twist-which debuted at No. 7 on the New York Times best-seller list for both the hardcover and trade paperback.
“We couldn’t be happier to welcome back the biggest star in all of comics,” said Nathan. “Not only is this a real treat for us, but one for the fans planning to attend the show as well!”
In addition to his Baltimore Comic-Con appearance on Saturday, Stan will participate in the Harvey Awards on Saturday evening. Details regarding ticket pricing for autographs, photographs, and VIP packages will be released over the next few weeks.
