ANDY RUNTON
Hey there! My name is Andy. I’ve always loved to draw and always loved comics. After college and a career in corporate America, I finally followed my heart, started drawing comics, graphic novels, and books and I haven’t looked back since.

In 2001 I created the breakout all-ages series of graphic novels, Owly, which features a kind-hearted little owl who’s always searching for new friends and adventure. The Owly series has earned praise from fans and critics alike, winning multiple awards including the Howard E. Day Memorial Prize, the Harvey Award, two Ignatz Awards, and the 2006 Eisner Award for “Best Publication for a Younger Audience.”

I rely on a mixture of symbols, icons, and expressions to tell my silent stories, and my work showcases my love of wildlife and the outdoors. I currently reside in the greater-Atlanta area where I work full-time on my Owly comics, books, and graphic novels.

Andy has made one previous trip to Acme back in 2011, and we’re psyched to have one of the most-travelled creators in comics with us for FCBD!

Press Release:

This has been a long time coming, as she’s one of THE most requested creators that you fans have consistently asked to see at Acme, and we’re very pleased to announce that on Saturday, February 9th from 11 AM – 3 PM, we’ll be hosting a signing with comics writer Gail Simone!

Gail will be happy to sign your copies of Birds of Prey, Welcome to Tranquility, the All-New Atom, New 52 Batgirl, or anything else she’s written! However, due to other commitments, the signing will begin at 11 AM and Gail will be on the road promptly at 3 PM! Show up early and have your comics ready to be signed!

Today Gail Simone is easily the most prolific female writer in comics, as well as one of the most respected opinions in the industry! She broke through in the early aughts with her blog Women in Refrigerators, commenting on the treatment of women via comic content, and she continued to opine on the world of comics up through 2003 via her Comic Book Resources column You’ll Be Sorry.

Though she’s most well-known for her work at DC, Simone actually started creating comic content for The Simpsons from Bongo and Deadpool and Agent X from Marvel! Then, in August 2003, she crossed the street and began making her mark on the DCU, taking over Birds of Prey with issue #56, beginning a stewardship of Barbara Gordan that has now spanned a decade!

Other runs and series for DC have included Acme favorite Secret Six (with Earth 2′s Nicola Scott), Wonder Woman (with Terry Dodson, Aaron Lopresti and Scott), Action Comics (with John Byrne), and Rose & Thorn!

Since September 2011 and the New 52, she’s been running Barbara Gordon, once again with the use of her legs, through a gauntlet of new villains in Batgirl, while launching the Fury of Firestorm, the Nuclear Men with co-writer Ethan Van Sciver!

We have to stress what a truly rare event this is, so plan accordingly so that you can be here to join us in thanking Gail for all the great stories she has given us!

From Womanthology’s BlogSpot:

Womanthology is an anthology graphic novel created entirely by women for Charity. The purpose of the book is to showcase the works of female creators of every age and experience levels.

The Graphic Novel will majorly consist of many short stories interpreting our theme for this volume; “Heroic”. We’ll also have interviews and how-to’s with some of the industry’s top female pros, as well as talks with young girls who someday want a career in comics.

Our charity is the Global Giving Foundation. They are a website dedicated to helping small charities from all over the world find funding. Once the book is finished, our profits will go to as many of these charities as we can help, focusing on one at a time until their funding goal is met.

Ming Doyle was born in Boston to an Irish American sailor and a Chinese Canadian librarian. In 2007 she earned her BFA from Cornell University with a dual concentration in painting and drawing and has been working as a freelance illustrator and comic book artist ever since.
