Baltimore Comic-Con 2018 Adds Guests

Simon Bisley is a British comic book artist best known for his 1990s work on ABC WarriorsLobo, and Slaine. His style, reliant on paints as well as inks, was strongly influenced by Frank Frazetta and Bill Sienkiewicz, and took inspiration from rock album covers and graffiti, as well as traditional comics art. While still a student, Bisley did a painting of a robot holding a baby that a friend passed to Pat Mills, and inspired Mills to relaunch the ABC Warriors strip in 2000AD, with Bisley as artist, in 1987. Other noteworthy contributions include regular contributions to Heavy Metal, and he has recently done covers for Factory from Titan Comics, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Bodycount from IDW Publishing, and Harley’s Little Black Book from DC Comics.

June Brigman has been drawing since she was old enough to hold a pencil. She studied art at the University of Georgia, but her illustrations are based on a lifetime of sketching. Brigman is the co-creator of the Power Pack series from Marvel Comics. She illustrated the Brenda Starr syndicated comic strip for 15 years. She currently teaches part time in the Sequential Art Department of the Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta branch. June received the San Diego Comic-Con Ink Pot Award in 2014. Her recent work can be seen on variant covers of Marvel Comics titles such as Generation XHulkInhumans PrimeJean Grey, and The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.

Michael Cho is a freelance cartoonist/illustrator based in Toronto. Michael has drawn a large variety of covers and a few stories for publishers including Marvel, DC, Image, BOOM! Studios, and others. He’s also received some awards for his work along the way. His first graphic novel, Shoplifter, was published by Pantheon and debuted on the New York Times Best Seller List. He is currently working on a follow up project.

Jamal Igle began his career in comics at the early age of 17, working as intern at DC while attending the High School of Art and Design. He began penciling full-time in 1993 and his body of work includes lengthy runs on FirestormNightwing, and Supergirl at DC. More recently, Igle took on the role of Vice President of Marketing at Action Lab Entertainment, where he published his Molly Danger and Venture titles. His work in AHOY Comics’ Wrong Earth debuts in September, 2018, and his Jughead: The Hunger variant covers can be seen in Archie Comics.

Ed McGuinness broke into the comic industry in 1995, working on three issues of Harris Comics’ Vengeance of Vampirella. After working on a few titles for Awesome Entertainment, including Fighting American and Youngblood, he took over art duties on Marvel Comics’ Deadpool in 1998. Since then, he as worked on such titles as Captain America & BuckyCaptain MarvelMr. MajesticThunderCatsUltimate Enemy, and World War Hulk: X-Men, as well as original covers for Wizard magazine. He has recently been handling art duties on Marvel’s Avengers.

After an initial foray into fanzines, Jerry Ordway found work at DC Comics as a result of a talent search at the 1980 Chicago Comicon, starting on anthology titles such as Mystery in Space and Weird War Tales. An artist in his own right, he is renowned for his inking work at DC Comics, including the industry-changing Crisis on Infinite EarthsZero Hour: Crisis in Time, and Countdown, as well as runs on SupermanWonder Woman, and JLA, as well as writing and painting The Power of Shazam! OGN and writing the monthly series that followed.

UK – Kid Lobotomy Signing

Writer Peter Milligan appears at Orbital Comics on Wednesday May 23rd, from 6:00 – 7:30 PM to sign copies of Kid Lobotomy: Volume 1.

A key forerunner of the “British invasion” that helped reinvigorate comics in the late eighties and early nineties, Peter Milligan is best known for his work at DC/Vertigo on titles such as Shade the Changing Man, Batman: Dark Knight, Dark City and Hellblazer, as well as at 2000AD (SkreemerHewligan’s Haircut) and Marvel (X-ForceX-StatixX-men). His latest undertaking (with Rat Queens artist Tess Fowler) Kid Lobotomy is the debut title at IDW’s creator-owned Black Crown imprint.

UK – An Evening with Charlie Adlard

Acclaimed comics artist, and the UK’s Comics Laureate, Charlie Adlard will be in Dundee at 6pm on Friday 10th November 2017 to give a talk on his career, and his work as Comics Laureate. Charlie is best known as the artist of the hugely successful comic, The Walking Dead, which has been adapted into a massively popular television series. He has also worked on comics such as 2000AD, The X-Files, and various titles for both Marvel and DC. The event, which is open to the public, will start and 6pm in Dundee Comics Creative Space (Vision Building) and will take the form of a Q&A session, chaired by Professor Chris Murray, followed by a wine reception. Legendary comic artists Glenn Fabry and Frazer Irving will be signing the Misty / Scream Special Edition at the Forbidden Planet London Megastore at 1:00pm on Saturday 21st October.

Two of Britain’s best-loved supernatural comics have been resurrected this Halloween and merged into one terrifying tome featuring all-new stories – and Glenn will be signing copies featuring his great variant cover!

Glenn Fabry has worked on Slaine for 2000AD as well as providing memorable covers for Preacher and Hellblazer from DC Comics.
