Kevin Huizenga and Dan Zettwoch sign at Star Clipper Comics on Friday, June 22 at 7 p.m.!

RSVP on Facebook!

Press Release:

St. Louis-based creators Kevin Huizenga and Dan Zettwoch will both introduce new collections of their work published by Drawn & Quarterly Friday, June 22 at 7 p.m.!

In GLORIANA, Kevin Huizenga exposes the mechanics that underpin everyday life. Huizenga has an understated, quiet approach to story writing that allows his characters (and his readers) the self-awareness to recognize the humor and tragedy of the quotidian.

In Dan Zettwoch’s BIRDSEYE BRISTOE, a mysterious stranger comes to town… only the town is not really a town and the stranger is a gigantic cell-phone tower! The town of Birdseye Bristoe (a portmanteau created from an interstate sign that points to two real towns) has only one real permanent resident, an old-timer known only as Uncle. Birdseye Bristoe begins with the destruction of the cell tower and works backward to unravel the story of its fall.

Meet the artists at an opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m., and get your picture taken with the characters of GLORIANA and BIRDSEYE BRISTOE!

Exclusive prints by the artists will be offered with any purchase of a Kevin Huizenga or Dan Zettwoch book by Drawn & Quarterly.

ICCW Network presents the first annual DoDeca-Con

ICCW Network, LLC presents the first annual DoDeca-Con. You may be asking yourself, “What is DoDeca-Con?” Well, that is an excellent question. It is a comic book/pop culture convention held in Columbia, MO at Kemper Arena (1270 E Boone Industrial Blvd Columbia, MO 65202) on May 4th thru 6th 2012. It will feature independent comic book creators, retailers of comic books, anime/manga, costumes and many others, as well as, a number of informational and educational (though entertaining) workshops on comic creation, cosplay and gaming. Check our schedule for event times.

That may not have been the only question you had. Maybe you are asking yourself, “What’s a DoDeca?” Simple answer, a 12 sided polygon. A dodecagon or a dodecahedron.

Now you’re asking, “What does this had to do with comic books and pop culture?” Also a simple question to answer. DoDeca-Con represents the best of the midwest. The best independent comic creators, the best gaming stores and players, and the best costumes (cosplay).

And being that there are officially 12 states that make up the midwest (The Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana and Ohio) you get a 12 sided polygon or a dodecagon. It is also a 12 sided die used in Role-Playing games and the first year the con is being held is 2012, so it only seems right.

So welcome to the official DoDeca-Con 2012 website. You can reserve your artist table or your vender booth, buy tickets to the show and other events that will take place that weekend.

Keep checking back for updates on guests and events and I look forward to seeing you at the show.
